Gordons, "tight lines" fishing news from Loch Ness, Scotland.

If you haven't fished in Scotland this year then you are missing out. Grilse have arrived late in the majority of rivers but with most pools on most waters well stocked with fish this is an opportunity not to be missed. The Beauly, Ness, Spey and Nairn if they are in your area, have a go. Small flies are the order of the day or at least that was the winning formula for a gentleman on Spey Bay AA water. For his week he landed 6 grilse and lost 8 more and a very lucky gentleman landed a 26lb fish from the Ness, on a Devon Minnow, which gives him the “Alltmor “ fish of the month award, for which he will receive a new salmon rod. (Lucky lad).

Trout fishing has also shown a marked improvement over recent weeks. I believe this has been due to the increased water levels and high temperatures giving the fish greater comfort with fresh well oxygenated water and an abundance of fly life to gorge on. This has not only been apparent in the Highlands but also the Islands . Loch Harray Orkney has fished extremely well with large bags of fish in 1lb range. So don't just sit around, get out and get catching. With only weeks left we will finish the season on a high note. I was given a days fishing on the Spey last week, by Mortimer's of Grantown. This is a very well stocked shop and a must if you are in the area, but back to my day. The river was full of fish, 5 fish taken by one chap a couple of days before. The water was perfect but not a solitary pull. Never mind I had a lovely day on a magnificent water.

Anyway only one thing left to do, take my well-earned holiday. Yes I am off to Loch Kishorn, on the west coast with Wilderness. Lets see if their salt-water cousins are giving up any easier. So with a car full of beach casters and dogs, and oh yes, nearly forgot the wife, tight lines until my next report that will be dedicated to the hardy winter beach fisher.

Tight lines and all the best,

Gordon

I will be very happy to answer any fishing questions that you might have.
