Solas is a striking architecturally designed house located in a quiet position in the village of Glendale. The property is equipped and furnished to a good standard, and offers spacious accommodation for a family or for a group of friends. The property makes an ideal base for those guests wanting to explore the north-west part of the island, an area renowned for its beautiful scenery and rugged coastline.

The accommodation at the property is located over two levels. The ground floor offers spacious open plan living with the lounge, kitchen and dining area being one. To the front of this area, are floor to ceiling windows which enjoy views to the garden and to the hills in the distance. The kitchen is equipped with all the usual appliances, together with a breakfast bar area. The lounge has comfortable sofas, a dining table and seating for six, and a wood burner. Two of the bedrooms are located on this level, a double and a twin, as is a family bathroom, a small study, and a utility room.

From the sitting room stairs lead to a mezzanine area, which has seating, and the master bedroom, together with a separate shower room. Solas has oil fired central heating throughout and the lower level benefits from under floor heating. The garden is equipped with furniture and to the rear of the property guests will find an area of private woodland, together with a spring.

Glendale itself offers a small shop and a couple of cafes (seasonal), a particularly popular one being the Red Roof Café. Further afield the larger settlement of Dunvegan (8 miles), offers a better range of facilities, and on the outskirts Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for 800 years, can be found. The castle and grounds are ideal for exploring, and tours are available, together with these the castle also offers boat trips, a shop and the Macleod Tables Café.

The most westerly point on the island can be found at Neist Point, the area is home to some of the most striking coastal scenery on the island, with large cliff faces and unusual rock formations, which are often compared to the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. The point is considered the best place on the island to see whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks, and for bird watchers the area is home to a large population of sea birds.

The Glendale area is also a popular choice with walkers, and the quiet country roads ideal for the cyclist. The more agile walker might even want to attempt the flat topped peaks of Healabhal Beag or Healabhal Mor, otherwise known as the MacLeod’s Tables. Further afield the island offers many other attractions and places to visit including Talisker Distillery and the town of Portree with its pretty harbour, which is the base for some of the islands many boat trip operators.

Great cottage tucked away with all that is needed for a relaxing break, whatever the weather.

Solas is a beautiful, homely cottage which is well equipped with utensils, crockery, baking tins, books, children's toys and even a piano. It is spotlessly clean and our party found no fault with it. There is lots of space, even in a large group of people, to have some alone time with the mezzanine and study to sit in if you need some space. The views are outstanding with lots to do in the area if you don't fancy driving for a day or two. We visited Glendale market and bought some lovely soaps of the owner of the cottage who was very friendly and told us just to let her know if we needed anything. There is a children's playpark, the Red Roof cafe is nice for a special treat as is Skye weavers who demonstrate their weaving skills and we bought Harris Tweed handbags and cushions from the very friendly lady at Wheatear textiles. We all loved the cottage and felt very sad when leaving. We would love to have stayed much longer and can't wait to return.

The house is great - spacious and bright, but still cozy. The view from the dining table into Glendale valley, with the sea to one side, is just amazing, even on a rainy day. Everything is super clean, there are loads of toys and games and books (for all ages), and I would definitely recommend staying there.

We had a wonderful stay at Solas, The property was a perfect base for our holiday in Skye. It's modern, bright and cosy, we were wishing that we had booked up for two weeks instead of one. As I am an artist I am hoping to paint a number of pieces of the surrounding area.

Thank you so much for such a lovely week in your beautiful house. With a combination of snow, sun, rain, rainbows and eagles, Skye was just beautiful and even on the wettest, windiest days, sitting in front of the fire at Solas made it all OK! Would highly recommend this beautifully thought out house. Thank you.

Wonderful property with masses of room. Beautiful scenery and great eateries close by. Clean, warm and well appointed. Lovely touch of leaving wine and oatcakes for our arrival. Well thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Solar, and will definitely return on our next trip to Skye.

What a beautiful place. Solas is at the end of a single track road and the only noise we heard was sheep baaing and the wind! The views over the glen are beautiful. Solas is a very relaxing place to stay - it is spacious, warm and very well organised. The kitchen has everything we needed. The views are lovely. The heating and woodburning stove made the place very cosy. We will be back to this wonderful place.

A beautifully designed and well-presented property, very clean and comfortable, with lovely pictures and pottery, in an excellent area for exploring Skye. We highly recommend Solas for anyone who appreciates contemporary design and light. And it's opposite the Red Roof Cafe (across the valley) which is definitely an added bonus if you enjoy home-made cakes and good coffee! We also recommend Solas for people with limited mobility as access inside and out is good. A great holiday - thank you!

We enjoyed our stay at Solas enormously: modern, wooden cottage with lots of space and lots of light. The kind of house we would like for ourselves one day! The cottage had all the facilities we could wish for. Having 2 bathrooms and 3 sofas are just two examples for the luxuries we enjoyed. The kitchen was very well equipped and the nice crockery and cutlery was a pleasant change from the odd jumbled assortment one tends to find in other holiday cottages. One of the nicest - if not THE nicest holiday cottage we've ever been to!

Had a beautiful stay at Solas - a homely house in a beautiful location. Our stay was made even more special with golden eagles giving us a flying display just overhead along with cuckoos in the wee woodland at the back of the house. Would recommend this as a get away from it all place.
