'Glenara' is a traditional cottage built in 1901, recently renovated and now available for self catering use. The cottage is located in a quiet lane facing the five locks of the Caledonian Canal in the centre of the Loch Ness village of Fort Augustus in the heart of the 'Great Glen'.The large garden at the rear of 'Glenara' runs down to the River Oich which flows in to Loch Ness. The cottage is on a strip of land, known locally as 'Long Island', which extends a distance of 6 to 7 miles between Loch Ness and Loch Oich and is wedged between the Canal and the River, which is part of 'The Great Glen Way'.

During the holiday season, the village bustles with visitors and is a popular holiday venue, with its many cafes, bars and restaurants. With Loch Ness a few minutes walk from 'Glenara' you can do a spot of ' Nessie' hunting and take a boat trip on Loch Ness either from the Village or longer trips are available with Jacobite Cruises from Inverness.

Fort Augustus is geographically right in the heart of the Highlands and makes an ideal base for your Highland holiday. The magnificent west coast, with its sandy beaches and the magical Isle of Skye are all within a few hours drive. For a spot of retail therapy, Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is about 40 minutes drive away. With walks by the river, along the canal and in the forests, cycling on the Great Glen cycle route, you will find plenty to keep you occupied.

Downstairs

• Sitting room with open fire, small TV, CD player and radio. Selection of books. Dining table.
• Lounge overlooking the garden and river Oich. Flat screen TV/DVD/Video, Ipod docking station, CD player and radio. The lounge has a double aspect over looking the garden and the river, with the mountains beyond.
• Galley kitchen with all the usual cooking facilities. Electric oven, microwave, washing machine, fridge/freezer. Tumble dryer is available in the outside shed. Ironing facilities.
• Double bedroom. Hairdryer. Cot and high chair available.

Upstairs

• Cosy single bedroom with coombed ceilings.
• Bathroom with bath and shower over, wash hand basin and toilet.

As the property is of a traditional style the staircase leading to the bathroom and single bedroom is quite steep and would need to be taken with care, especially with young children and may not be suitable for the less able person.

• Bed linen and towels provided.
• All electricity and one bag of coal for the fire.

The long rear garden has access to the river and fishing is available from the bank for trout.
Please note:-If you want to fish for salmon then a permit and licence would be required.
Garden furniture.
One very well behaved pet is welcome and the garden is fenced.
