Port Elgol Cottage sits in an idyllic setting on the shores of Loch Scavaig. The property enjoys uninterrupted views towards the Cuillin mountains, and the islands of Rum, Canna and Soay. With village amenities just a short distance away, this cottage offers a perfect retreat for a Wilderness Cottage holiday, and an ideal base to enjoy the many walks available in the area.

Inside the property is beautifully presented and equipped and furnished to a high standard. The accommodation is split over two levels; the main living area is open plan with a vaulted ceiling, oak flooring and a wood burner. This room is spacious and light and ideal for relaxing in after a day exploring. The kitchen runs along one side of this room and has all the usual appliances and equipment that you would expect. The seating area is positioned to enjoy the warmth of the wood burner and the views over the garden to the sea, and at the other end a dining table for four.

Off the main room a small hall leads to the bedrooms and bathroom. The master complete with a king size bed is situated to the front of the property and enjoys views to the garden and the shore beyond. To the rear of the hall, a few steps lead to the upper level and the twin bedroom and bathroom. At the front of the property an enclosed garden is ideal for those guests with young children, and is also a perfect place to sit and relax and enjoy the fantastic sunsets.

Elgol has some facilities including the village shop which has also acts as a tea room, the Elgol Bistro which serves simple home-style meals, and the Coruisk House Restaurant which will need to be booked in advance of your trip. The main attraction though is the various boat trips that run from the harbour. These include the well known Bella Jane and Misty Isle boats that run from Elgol to Loch Coruisk, which is situated in the heart of the Cuillin mountains and offers some of the most spectacular scenery on the island. These trips will also allow you to view the native sea birds and other sea life, including otters and seals, and the occasional basking shark, dolphins, or porpoise if you are extremely lucky. These even have been spotted from the cottage garden on occasion.

For those guests wanting something a bit more exhilarating take a trip with AquaXplore. This company offers wildlife and whale watching tours on RIBS (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats) not only to Loch Coruisk but also to the islands of Canna, Rum, Soay and Eigg.

Spent the most perfect week in this special little cottage. The weather was at its typical Skye best , wet and blustery. However Port Elgol Cottage looked after us. Everything you could possibly imagine had been thought about. The bed was lovely and comfortable and the view to wake up to spectacular. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking either a simple snack or main meal. Spotlessly clean and full of character. I felt a huge sadness leaving Port Elgol , we had the perfect week and will definitely return I cannot give this wonderful little home a high enough rating .

Enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. We came here with plans to explore Skye and because the cottage was so comfortable and the weather was so good we decided to stay local. Will definitely be back!

A most fantastically situated cottage, with incomparable views ( when the cloud allowed us to see them!). It was very comfortable, and had everything we needed, especially as we spent rather more time indoors than we would have wished, owing to the wet and very windy weather. We had 1 glorious day though, which we spent on the Aquaxplore trip to Canna - a truly magical experience with dolphins, a whale and birds. A fabulous spot which we highly recommend.

We last stayed at Port Elgol cottage in 2013. Lovely to return to this charming cottage on the shore at Elgol. It is a stunning location which I love. The garden was looking beautiful. Hopefully it wont take us so long to return again.

The cottage was in a beautiful location with spectacular views over the Cullins. It was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. There was a good amount of hot water and we enjoyed having a relaxing bath after a long day walking. We had a lovely week enjoying this peacefull and isolated area. You might want to consider replacing the mattress on the double bed as it was very uncomfortable . The interior of the cottage is clearly 20 years old and it needs an upgrade.

Thank you for your review and feedback. The owners are planning upgrades to the interior, including a new mattress and other furnishings.

This is a cute little fisherman's cottage - full of character, very well equipped, clean. Great instructions in the cottage too on how to use things, etc. It is a little far from Portree, but we didn't mind as the location of the cottage is fantastic. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets during our stay. Also, you need a car anyway in Skye to move around. For us, our stay at the cottage was serendipitous. About 19 years ago, during a trip to Glasgow we bought a painting of a cottage from a local artist. We were instantly drawn to it. When we saw the cottage on Wildnerness Cottages website, again we were instantly drawn to it and so booked it. It's only when we returned home that we realised that it's the same cottage in the painting hanging on our wall! If there is one thing that perhaps needs looking at is an addition of a proper electric dryier machine for clothes. On wet days, the air drying wasn't ideal. This notwithstanding, highly recommend.

Both the cottage and the agency exceeded our expectations, and we had a great week. From the wheelbarrow arrival to the comfortable beds, to the extraordinary view over to the Cuillin ridge, the house was great, and we would recommend it to anyone, though probably more to adult groups than to groups with kids who get easily bored.

Stunning location for a holiday, fantastic views and helped by lovely weather. Comfortable cottage with everything you will need. At 6'3" I found the shower a little restricted, but my wife was OK. The location and ability to relax, watching the tide come and go make up for any small shortcomings with the cottage.

Can't speak highly enough of this little cottage - fantastic situation right by the sea and thoughtfully provisioned. The weather was pretty grim during our stay so we took advantage of the games, DVDs and jigsaws. Everything we might need - and more - for cooking & eating. No complaints - even the odd access arrangement was fun! But no seals in the harbour sadly & the sea too rough for the boat trip we'd been so looking forward to.

A cottage with a Wow factor. The location is outstanding and the cottage is very very comfortable and homely. Views from the garden of the Cuillens are magical and one that you never get bored of. Take a boat trip from the jetty to the hidden Loch Coruisk for a great walk. The 40 minute drive from Broadford to the cottage on single track road, the views, the lambs, sheep and cattle wandering across in front of you have been etched in my memory. A lovely friendly community and we feel privileged to have stayed in this lovely cottage that has absolutely everything you need.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Port Elgol Cottage, I cannot imagine a more beautiful location in the whole world. The view of the many islands out to sea then the Cullins and honeycomb rock from the front garden is absolutely spectacular. The cottage itself is just lovely, the moment you walk in it feels like a home not a rental. There is everything you need for your stay, it is very well equipped and comfortable but also has lots of books, games and maps to use too. The 'Bothy Books' where previous guests have written about their stay is lovely to read and gives lots of tips on the local wildlife and places to see. We were lucky that during our stay we had glorious weather but I would not have been disappointed if a storm had of come in as the cottage was so cosy with its log burning fire. We will definitely be back, it was an absolute privilege to stay here.

This is a perfect location for any kind of weather. No need to drive anywhere unless there really is something you want to see or do. Just wander round the bay and across the cliff paths, watch the sea and the gannets diving, count the number of people who come to photograph the honeycomb rock, enjoy the waves, take a sea trip if there are no waves, watch the photoshoots for weddings, and sit in the garden at night with the stars overhead and the bats swooping to take the moths. You don't need a weather forecast - you can see the rain coming, as we did, frequently. But without the rain we wouldn't have had rainbows. All wonderfully photogenic. The cottage is cosy and obviously loved and used as a home from home.

Beautiful and peaceful location with fantastic views of the Cuillins and out to sea and stunning sunsets (when the weather was right!). The tree swing in the front garden and easy access to the beach was much loved by our 9 year old daughter. Well equipped, clean and comfortable house - perfect size for the three of us. Addition of books and games were a lovely touch. Ideally situated for walking and exploring the island plus easy access to wonderful boat trips from Port Elgol jetty. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and will definitely be back! Thank you!

Port Elgol Cottage offers everything, what you need for a perfect stay at the Isle of Skye. First, the views over the Cuillins are breathtaking at any time of the day. Second, the cottage is furnished very tastefully and makes you feel at home immediately. The kitchen is equipped perfectly. On a rainy day, you can choose from a big variety of board games. And when it is sunny, go on a boat trip with Bella Jane and Aqua-X-Plore within 1 minute walking distance. It was our second stay there. And not the last one for sure.

We booked the cottage through Wilderness Cottages after being let down twice through VRBO. The transaction was easy and smooth and professional. The cottage was "as advertised" and on our arrival I realized it was exactly what I had booked. The stunning location meant that we spent most of our time in and around the cottage. Our 2 girls played on the rocks and explored caves and rock pools etc and were perfectly content-as were my wife and I. Everything in the cottage worked and was very comfortable. We had heard about the nightmare of midges but only encountered them one day at the fairy pools away from the cottage. We encountered all types of weather and whatever was thrown at us we didn't mind. The only thing that folks from the U.S would miss is a dryer. We had laundry from a previous leg of our trip and were lucky that we had a dry day with wind to get the clothes dry. The cottage is set in a beautiful location. We utilized the village shop on many occasions to keep the money local. We took Misty Isles boat trip to Loch Coruisk which was delightful and friendly. Our family had a delightful stay at the cottage with no issues. We plan to return.
