Fort William and Lochaber is a Highland landscape of contrast from the shoreline of Loch Linnhe at the south of the Great Glen to the natural beauty of Ardamurchan, Morvern and Moidart with many coastal paths, woodland trails and mountain hikes.

Fort William is the largest town in the region and home to Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. The immediate area has some spectacular mountain scenery and superb walking. In the winter months Nevis Range Ski Centre is a magnet for skiers and snowboarders whilst in the summer it offers superb down hill mountain biking. It is not surprising then that the area is known as the ‘Outdoor Capital’.

Glen Spean and Glen Roy continue the mountain theme with the incredible geological ‘parallel roads’ and Nature Reserve at Glen Roy.

To the west Glen Garry offers many wildlife spotting opportunities and walking as well as beautiful scenery and a sense of seclusion, fishing is also available.

The ‘Road to the Isles’, the A830 travels west from Fort William through Lochaber towards the ferry port of Mallaig through remarkable scenery and incredible history. On your journey you will pass Neptunes staircase on the Caledonian Canal, The Glenfinnan Monument, a memorial to the Jacobite Rising and the impressive viaduct. You will also see the beautiful white sands of Arisaig and Loch Morar, Scotland’s deepest loch, before reaching Mallaig. This journey can also be enjoyed by train and is renowned as one of the most scenic rail journeys, in the summer months you also have the option to go back in time to the age of the steam locomotive. From Mallaig you have access to the small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna as well as the Isle of Skye.

The Glen Coe area boasts some dramatic mountain scenery and is a superb walking area, in the winter months there is skiing at the Glen Coe Ski Centre.
