Due to numerous requests from our customers we are delighted to be able to offer you a small selection of West coast and Islands of Scotland holiday cottages that will maintain the good name and reputation of Wilderness Cottages. The properties in this area are at least as well appointed as those in the Loch Ness region. All cottages are visited by us personally before we offer them on our site. They all meet our very high standards. We have now launched a new website called Ample cottages dedicated to showing large holiday homes throughout Scotland for those of you looking for group holidays and for large families.

The west coast of Scotland and the Western Isles have some of the most beautiful, rugged and unspoilt coastline in the world. Spectacular clifftop views out to the Scottish Islands , sleepy fishing villages and coastal communities, offering the very best locally caught seafood. The scenery can be awesome and the wildlife, spectacularly abundant, like nowhere else in the UK. Here you can see Sea eagles, Golden eagles, Otters, and Whales, just to mention a few.

Best of all, if you choose a holiday cottage on the West coast of Scotland, is the terrifically varied choice that there is to be had in self catering accommodation; from a romantic cottage on the beach to a secluded clifftop hideaway. From a busy Western Isles town to a remote island croft.  

We have a very small west coast selection from which to choose, and we will be expanding the range of cottages on offer over the coming months. We are looking for the very best available and will thoroughly familiarise ourselves as to suitability of the location, quality, and price of any west coast property that we offer, in order to offer you only the very best for your Scottish holiday experience.

One of the main areas of interest is Skye, which is joined to the mainland by the Skye Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. It also has two mainland ferry connections: from Mallaig and Glenelg . The Cuillins of Skye are certainly the island's best-known feature , but Lochalsh on the mainland is also rugged hill country, with Kintail and Balmacara nearby in the care of the National Trust for Scotland .  

Ullapool , one of our very favourite west coast resorts, is nestled on the shores of Lochbroom about 1 hour north of Loch Ness and Inverness airport. It is the perfect base to discover Ross-shire, Cromarty, and Sutherland. Many people having visited this part of the west coast, return time after time, such is the beauty and friendliness of the area and local people.

Oban is undeniably one of Scotland 's most popular west-coast holiday towns, and is the unofficial capital of the West Highlands - the "Gateway to the Isles".   Justifiably so, as the town's south pier is the embarkation point for car ferries to Mull, Coll , Tiree , Barra , South Uist , Colonsay , Lismore and Islay . From these islands you can travel further afield to Iona , Staffa and to many of the smaller less well known isles.  

The Isle of Arran is only about 2 hours away from Glasgow with a 40 minute drive followed by a 50 minute ferry crossing from Ardrossan to Brodick. Arran is arguably the most beautiful island in Europe, with it's granite peaks and sweeping moorland, wooded glens and long sandy beaches,tumbling waterfalls, big skies and wide open seascapes. A long history and temperate climate makes Arran a holiday destination you will want to return to, time and again. We can now offer you cottages on Arran in some of the loveliest parts of the Island.

The Isle of Mull is without doubt one of the most beautiful Islands off the West coast of Scotland, Tobermory, colourful and vibrant is the main town on the island. We can now offer you high quality self catering propertys for up to 10 people in some of the best locations on Mull, overlooking Tobermory and the Sound of Mull. The Island is also just about the easiest of all the islands to get to with several regular car ferries making the journey so much more exciting.
