The cottage and its location provided the ultimate in getting away from the world and turning our backs on tech! Very comfortable spaces and the cottage is a really nice temperature despite it being cold outside. Grading as a 4 as a couple of things could do with being updated but nothing major or anything that would put us off from staying again.

The cottage is in a beautiful location with great views to Raasay and the Cuillins, which get even better if you walk down the track for ten minutes. Also there's a lovely walk to Portree from the door. It is well equipped and we found it spotlessly clean. Much more spacious than it looks on the website, very comfortable lounge especially. Very handy for touring: Staffin, Glen Brittle and Dunvegan all less than an hour's drive. Recommended.

Our second visit to this excellent architectural home in a stunning location. Absolutely perfect for totally getting away from a busy World, enabling us to slow down and relax. Taking a trip to Sandwood Bay really added to the sense of remoteness and it was a real shame we ended up leaving a day early, but that was due to Storm Babet. I suspect we will return again!

A fantastic house in a fantastic, peaceful location. It feels remote but provides quick and easy access to whatever amenities you need and wherever you wish to visit. Very well equipped, furnished to a high standard and spacious. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Dozens of Munros and Corbetts are within an hour's drive if, like us, you love hill walking. Lots of wildlife in the surrounding areas and even a Red Kite circling above the garden!

Fantastic cottage in an idyllic location. You absolutely need a robust vehicle in bad weather however we were in a 4 x 4 so ok. Our dogs were safe around the cottage off lead and the surrounding area is incredibly peaceful. Neighbouring cottage did not overlook ours despite reading this in other reviews! One small issue was the beds were quite small for us as we are used to a super king however all bedding and towels provided were spotless as was the remainder of the cottage. Kitchen incredibly well equipped and owners have thought of everything including a Tin with first aid kit items in downstairs bathroom. Overall a very pleasant stay and housekeeper Mahri was very helpful and returned an item of clothing in the post that we left behind by accident. Thank you Mahri! And thank you to Selma the owner too in checking the cottage was accessible due to recent flooding before we set off on our long journey, very responsive and much appreciated. Would highly recommend and consider returning ourselves again in the future. ????

WHAT A HIDDEN GEM !!!!!! Comfortable ,cosy and felt so remote ,yet we were 10 minutes walk from Fort Augustus village. The Coltfoots was very well equipped and clean and so spoilt with two king size bedrooms with en suite Had a glimpse of the shy red sqirrels ,but deer came into the garden most evenings. Even the weather was kind to us as 'Storm Babet' was hitting most of the UK. Definitely worth a return stay one day ????

Unique and fun house to be in for a holiday. Great views of the bay and islands from the living room, and well protected from the evening storms with the house being partially built into the slope. Great for 2 people, but would not be so good for 4 - the 2nd bedroom was quite gloomy, it's only got a skylight.

Lovely 'R House' kit house, so very modernist with open plan downstairs. Location is fabulous with fantastic views on a clear day to the mountains of the Outer Hebrides. Great walks from the door; Sid ( the dog ) and I ran to Waterstein Head most mornings or the road run to Nuest Head ( I hope I got that right ). Just beware that Glendale is a fair distance from The Cullins and Trotternish....a check of the map makes that clear so not a criticism but an observation. The drive to the property is also interesting; rear wheel drive cars might find it a challenge. But you know what....an ideallic house with breathtaking views. Would I stay again? You bet!!

Another super week at The Orchids. The cottage is superb in all weathers. Back in June when we visited first it was wall to wall sunshine all week and the dining room doors were wide open all week. This time it was mixed with plenty of rain but it was just as good to cosy up on the comfy chairs in the dining room with a good book and a cup of tea and watch the weather unfold in front of us. A house for all seasons, it's warm, has everything you need and is like wrapping yourself in a big comfy welcoming blanket. Can't wait until our next visit.

Great views towards Skye -even the awful weather looked good! Not as much wildlife as we'd hoped for, but did see plenty of birds from the cottage and a couple of eagles around Shieldaig. The drive over the pass from Applecross is amazing. An information pack with local info (on walks etc.) would have been good, but managed with the internet connection. Lovely spot in the middle of the forest. The cottage could do with some TLC. Make sure that everything that is supposed to be there is there on arrival (wood logs, bags for the used sheets), update the information/manuals, those details will bring the stay to a higher level. . And PLEASE; make sure that the gate next to the cottage can be used, to avoid disturbing the wild life on the estate unnecessarily!!!

A good week despite mixed weather. Cottage was warm and comfortable, unpretentious. Fabulous location. 4x4 is essential, track is very rutted and difficult to negotiate in wet conditions. Experience would be improved if the outer area of garden could be cleared a bit, particularly to remove the invasive giant rhubarb (gunnera manicarta?) which with the bracken impedes the sea view and makes it hard to turn a large 4x4 to get out again.

Lovely cottage and can see from previous reviews owners have really listened and changed things. Shower is new and fine, not massively powerful but expected for the area but not a drip as previously stated. Nice blankets for when it gets a bit chilly. Clean and comfortable and for the price charged, good value for money. Beautiful setting, great neighbours, lots of games to play. We took our own but didn't need to as there was plenty. The cottage now has WiFi. Perfect base for exploring. Loved the secret little beach. My only changes I would recommend is a new mattress, the one in the double room is very uncomfortable and the electric heaters, I really think these would look better updated and on the wall with timers. The cottage does heat up nice and quickly but there are heaters everywhere. Other than this the cottage has everything you could possibly need, it is pretty remote so perfect for a quiet break, the area is breath taking. Would recommend for the price paid.

Seal Skerry Lodge

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seal Skerry Lodge, it is a fantastic location. Be prepared for the single track roads, we were very happy with the remoteness but it's a fair way from shops etc. Also the wee track from the road to the house takes some negotiation, it is steep and gravel but if you don't stop you'll get up. House itself is lovely, nice size, really beautiful views, well stocked kitchen and appliances (we cooked every night), comfy furniture, lovely bathrooms and a comfy bed. Bit weird not having any blinds or curtains but that didn't bother us, apart from the farmer coming down the hill on a quad bike one day while I was upstairs naked... Oops. One thing that annoys me is the "dog friendly" thing, people advertise as this then it's no dogs on the furniture, no dogs upstairs, on the bed blah blah blah. We rescued our dog 10 years ago and for that period she has laid on the settee every day and night then slept in our bed, how is she supposed to understand that suddenly she can't, not happening. We pay a pet premium every time..... What for? My only other criticism, and I hate saying this, is the cleanliness, not bad but could have been better, lots of heavy dust under the couch and beds and bits in the cutlery drawers, I have still given it 5 stars as we had such a good time.
