Beach Lodge

We had the most amazing time. Wilderness cottages and the owners were accommodating and extremely helpful. we have a reactive and anxious dog so having the capacity to walk off lead (when there were no other animals around of course) was just a special experience for us and obviously the dog. The beach is just wonderful and when the tide is out you can walk quite a long way. The cows didn't come down to graze once during our stay although the deer did and, we only met one other person on the beach during our weeks stay. The cottage is well equipped and warm, in fact so warm our first job was to go around and turn all the radiators down when we arrived. We thought the decor and furniture was good quality and the only thing that would have made our trip top class would be upgrading the sofa seating and mattresses as they were a little uncomfortable. The water pressure isn't great in the showers upstairs so would recommend the downstairs shower which is reasonable. we managed to get down the road in a fully loaded Honda CRV so it is higher than other cars. We did make it although you need to take it very slowly. We would definitely recommend this place.

We had a really great stay at this property. It is a large property with 4 bedrooms [2 upstairs/2 downstairs], and is very private/homely. It is in a remote setting, though still within very close reach of Fort Augustus [20 mins walk], and several great walks into this hills [great views of Loch Ness], into the forests, and along the river Oich. The large lounge on top floor [accessible from the spiral staircase] gives great views on to the forest. and the wood-burner gives a great heat. 4 double settees very comfortable. Enough starter wood / firelighters / matches were provided. Downstairs, the large kitchen is well stocked and all needed white goods are there. Leading outside is a large room for hanging jackets, dirty boots, etc [and its also part of kitchen]. We bought a large bag of sunflower hearts and spent hours watching the numerous birds from the decking [mainly finches and blue tits] coming to feed. We got some great slo-mo videos. We just loved the amount of space/room in the cabin and would definitely choose this place for a future break in Fort Augustus.

I could just say this cottage is perfect and leave it at that, but that wouldn't tell you anything about the attention to detail that has gone into making this place just right. Neither would it tell you about how comfortable Fann and Murdo have made this cottage. It would also miss out letting you know about the magnificent view, it really is amazing, from the side of the Loch to the mountains. It wouldn't tell you about how well equipped this cottage is, nor would it tell you about the exciting wildlife that visits every evening. And I mustn't forget the lovely story of the cottage's heritage. The love, thought and care that has gone into the restoration of Leachachan Cottage is clear to all. All I can really tell you is, be prepared to be amazed, because you will be.

Last week Plodda Lodge became our home - we didn't want to leave, but for sure we will return. It was such a privilege to be able to enjoy this beautiful house with its miles and miles of unspoilt forests and hillsides for our playground. Even the weather was kind and the autumn colours absolutely stunning, especially on the paths to Glen Moriston and around Glen Affric. Jenny and Paul are such amazing and generous hosts and made us feel so welcome and without doubt we will keep in touch! We had tears in our eyes as we packed the car for the journey home, already planning our next visit. Thanks so much! Rebecca and Steve, Lincolnshire

Stayed at this wonderful cottage in the October half term, what a great find . While it may not be wilderness, it is very peaceful in situation but we liked the fact you could walk into the village for amenities. The cottage itself is just fabulous. The quality of furnishings are some of the best compared to other cottages we have stayed in . The place was immaculate, every attention to detail had been made . Everything was there that youd need for a home from home stay . It was super warm and cosy . Drumnadrochit is central to all places to visit, north or south . If you book this cottage you will not be disappointed. We've stayed in many over the years and this one is by far one of the best

Lovely, quiet, cosy cottage in spectacular surroundings. Thoroughly enjoyed our week at North Lodge. Lovely walks around the estate, plenty of birds around the cottage. No squirrel sightings unfortunately but did see deer. Cottage was well equipped, with very comfy beds. Only issue and its being picky, with the weather turning colder, would be the draft coming in through the back door and the draft excluder provided is a couple of inches too short to stop the draft completely. Other than that, no complaints at all. Close to Stranraer for anything needed. Port Patrick is only 15 mins drive and the Mull of Galloway lighthouse is worth a visit. We would definitely book to stay here again.

The cottage and its location provided the ultimate in getting away from the world and turning our backs on tech! Very comfortable spaces and the cottage is a really nice temperature despite it being cold outside. Grading as a 4 as a couple of things could do with being updated but nothing major or anything that would put us off from staying again.

The cottage is in a beautiful location with great views to Raasay and the Cuillins, which get even better if you walk down the track for ten minutes. Also there's a lovely walk to Portree from the door. It is well equipped and we found it spotlessly clean. Much more spacious than it looks on the website, very comfortable lounge especially. Very handy for touring: Staffin, Glen Brittle and Dunvegan all less than an hour's drive. Recommended.

Our second visit to this excellent architectural home in a stunning location. Absolutely perfect for totally getting away from a busy World, enabling us to slow down and relax. Taking a trip to Sandwood Bay really added to the sense of remoteness and it was a real shame we ended up leaving a day early, but that was due to Storm Babet. I suspect we will return again!

Fantastic cottage in an idyllic location. You absolutely need a robust vehicle in bad weather however we were in a 4 x 4 so ok. Our dogs were safe around the cottage off lead and the surrounding area is incredibly peaceful. Neighbouring cottage did not overlook ours despite reading this in other reviews! One small issue was the beds were quite small for us as we are used to a super king however all bedding and towels provided were spotless as was the remainder of the cottage. Kitchen incredibly well equipped and owners have thought of everything including a Tin with first aid kit items in downstairs bathroom. Overall a very pleasant stay and housekeeper Mahri was very helpful and returned an item of clothing in the post that we left behind by accident. Thank you Mahri! And thank you to Selma the owner too in checking the cottage was accessible due to recent flooding before we set off on our long journey, very responsive and much appreciated. Would highly recommend and consider returning ourselves again in the future. ????

Unique and fun house to be in for a holiday. Great views of the bay and islands from the living room, and well protected from the evening storms with the house being partially built into the slope. Lovely 'R House' kit house, so very modernist with open plan downstairs. Location is fabulous with fantastic views on a clear day to the mountains of the Outer Hebrides. Great walks from the door; Sid ( the dog ) and I ran to Waterstein Head most mornings or the road run to Nuest Head ( I hope I got that right ). Just beware that Glendale is a fair distance from The Cullins and Trotternish....a check of the map makes that clear so not a criticism but an observation. The drive to the property is also interesting; rear wheel drive cars might find it a challenge. But you know what....an ideallic house with breathtaking views. Would I stay again? You bet!!
