Beach Lodge
A true remote experience Love beach lodge and its location
Bothy Cotain
Beautiful cosy cottage tastefully refurbished to a high standard. Very quiet and relaxing with stunning views.
The Coltsfoots
This was our 5th stay at The Coltsfoot and it was perfect. This log cabin is so comfortable, spotlessly clean and so well equipt and set in such a peaceful setting its our favourite place in the Highlands. We hope to return again soon.
Victoria Cottage
Beautiful cottage and spotlessly clean. Stunning location. Not many places you can watch Sea Eagles from the dining room table. Would definitely stay again.
The Coltsfoots
What a great place to stay. One of the best we have stayed in. The lodge was so clean and well presented. Beds very comfy. Great power showers. The lodge was so well equipped with everything we needed. The outside covered seating area was a bonus. Gordon and his wife were so friendly and made our stay extra special. A big thank you for the extras left for us on arrival. A 10 minute walk took us into Fort Augustus. The Lodge was so quiet and peaceful and hope to return again in the future. Thank you again for everything that made our holiday so special.
South Lodge
Had a lovely week at South Lodge, location was as described and was lovely to wake up to those amazing views and have peace and quiet. Our greyhound love running round the garden so he's had a ball too. Lots to see on the west coast my favourite being Isle of Arran and just outside kilberry village seeing the seals at the waters edge was a treat. Only minor feedback the oven time is hard to follow as numbers don't fully show but still managed to cook with the well equipped kitchen! Thanks for a lovely holiday !
Matheson's Croft House
We had a very peaceful and restful week at Matheson's Croft House and felt very comfortable in the house. Cooking with the Rayburn proved to be an art form, having never used one before. However, we did get there and the heat, even on a low setting, was sufficient to keep us cosy and warm and we were able to dispense with the microwave. This property has a great 'loo with a view', our bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. The only downside for us is that the garden has grown a lot and so does obscure some of the loch views from the house (not from upstairs), but this is something that could soon be sorted. Easy to get to Skye and lots of interesting places to visit and walk in the area.
Seal Skerry Lodge
We stayed at 2 cottages on our fortnight in Skye Both were in stunning locations with amazing views. The accommodation was comfortable and the kitchens well equipped Happy to recommend to anyone looking for a holiday that really does get you away from it all!
Udrigle House
We enjoyed a great week in this unique house. It was comfy and warm and good to return to after a day walking. The owners were very helpful and on hand. We were lucky to see otters and a white tailed eagle from the garden; the views across the bay towards mountains were sublime. We found lots of walks within 20 miles or so and loved the area's beautiful beaches. Thanks to the McKenzies
Ceol na Mara
Great stay as usual so have immediately booked again for next year. Perfect cottage by the sea
Seahorses
We had a wonderful and unforgettable time there. I am still amazed by how beautiful the view is! I love the Scottish countryside, and this place has become one of my favourites. Everything was comfortable and convenient.
Strone
The cottage was well kitted out in all areas. In particular the kitchen as we always cook our own meals. We rarely go out. We felt the sitting room a bit "cold". A rug and some bright prints would have helped. The cottage gives easy access to Glen Affric which was the main reason we hired it. But it also gives easy access to Inverness, Fort Augustus or Fort William if the weather is poor. It should be noted that the bus stop is 200 yards from the house next to Urquhart Castle. Saves using the car to these places. Overall, very happy with our time in Strone.
Braehead Steading
Our first visit to Braehead and we were not disappointed. The Steading is stunning, a beautiful comfy home for a relaxing holiday. The home was immaculate and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you might need. The rooms were all very comfortable and it has a beautiful large garden. ( I did miss having a bird table to watch ) The house is less than 5 minutes drive to Ballater and located in the Cairngorms national park offers many places to visit. Aberdeen is only 40 miles away and Stonehaven with its stunning beaches and Dunnatar castle is only just over an hour away. Balmoral castle and Braemar castle are 10 minutes from the Steading. Enjoyed watching the house martins daily and the neighbours geese who visited every morning. Thank you to the owner Graham who was so kind and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay, hope to return again soon. Thanks again to Wilderness cottages, always so helpful.
Cedar Cottage
Our 5th visit to this gem of a cottage. The cottage was immaculate on arrival as usual , thank you for the lovely welcome pack. The cottage is perfect, sitting at the end of a forest track, so quiet and peaceful yet 20 minutes drive to the stunning town of Forres with its amazing floral displays. The bird table was very busy and sitting at the patio table watching the red squirrels so close is amazing. Only saw the pine marten a couple of times sadly. You are spoilt for choice with all the stunning beaches within a short drive. Too many to mention ! Museums, castles, old ruins are in abundance, always somewhere new to visit. Plus plenty of walks surrounding the cottage and a bit farther afield too. Thanks to the lovely ladies at Wilderness who are always so helpful . We'll be back.
The Challey at Heathcote
Another cosy stay at the Challey. Still lots to see and do in the area, the Challey makes an ideal base. Thank you.
The Granary
From the booking to leaving everything was perfect. The Granary is an excellent cottage in Drumnadrochit. Our hosts Mairi and Paul were friendly and the cottage had everything we needed. Our 4th visit there and we will return again
The Old Post Office
What a stunning renovation to the old house and so well equipped. Who would not want to wake up to a view like that?
Applecross Manse
A lovely, beautiful, quirky house. Even when we had a minor problem, everyone was very helpful and Harvey was there within 1/2 hour. Brilliant. Great wildlife in the garden. Great place to stay.
Cala
We had a wonderful stay in Cala. It is a calm, comfortable house to stay in - with the most stunningly mesmerising views from the huge windows. It is well equipped and sparkly clean. It is remote - and we did pick up staple supplies for the first couple of days in Ullapool - but Drumbeg Stores just a couple of miles up the road from Nedd is an absolute gem and we found everything we needed there for the rest of our stay. Wilderness Cottages were, as always, friendly and efficient to book through. A fabulous holiday - thank you
Port Elgol Cottage
Excellent relaxing week spent at the superb Port Elgol Cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed the location and well appointed cottage which provided lovely cosy refuge from the worst of the weather we encountered between the good spells.
Seascape Cottage
If you want a beach literally right in front of you, stay here! Watch the sun drop into the sea and just chill out. Perfect, wildlife stunning. Very comfortable indeed.
White-Tail Croft
We had a wonderful week at the white tail cottage. It was always nice to return to the cottage after a day out. The cottage is very well equiped and all is to a high standard. And what a view from the windows! Internet was working very well. Thanks for the welcome package!
North Lodge
The lodge was blissfully warm on arrival. Just what is needed after a long journey. As is being well equipped and comfortable. Beautiful peaceful setting with frequent sightings of deer.
Port Elgol Cottage
Stunning location! and staying at Port Elgol really felt like staying in a much loved and cared for holiday home. Lots of character, but also very well equipped and comfortable. Whatever the weather (we had rain & sun in unequal measure!), the view out over the harbour always had interest with boats to-ing and fro-ing. A boat trip is a 'must' and meal at Elgol Bistro 'a delight'. Thank you to Elgol's owners (K&R) for a wonderful stay.
Charleston
Another wonderful holiday in this beautiful cottage, always clean and the view from this cottage breathtaking , will be back next year.
Fearnmore Church
Lovely stay at Fearnmore Church. It was sparkly clean and very comfortable. The views are sublime - and the coal fire lovely. A pair of pine martens visited every night. Wilderness Cottages are lovely to book through - as always - we have been booking via them for many years. Thank you - a great holiday.
The Old Post Office
We enjoyed our week at the old post office after a shaky start. We had carefully reviewed the cottage details, street walked the location and checked the OS map and satellite - but we hadn't anticipated that getting a VW van and a kayak/ bike trailer up to the cottage would be quite so problematic. The loose gravel on the drive and the angle between it and the road meant we had to unhitch the trailer, unload the bikes and boats, lower the jockey wheel to lift the back end to avoid it grounding on the road and then push it up the drive. We only managed it because a passing car driver stopped and came and helped us. I then spent the week worrying about how we would get it off again (fortunately we had rope, belay device and climbing slings to hand so we roped it off the drive and packed up on the neighbours track). All added a bit of stress to arrival and departure. I'm guessing that the instruction to reverse down the drive is to avoid grounding a vehicle as it joined the road - that worked fine as long as we swung left into the neighbours track. That said, the cottage is really lovely and well equipped and of course a fab location. Might be a bit cramped for 6, but perfect for the two of us. Would be helpful if you could offer somewhere to put bikes and outdoor kit (any room in the shed perhaps?)

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to learn that your arrival was not as we would have liked. Its important that guests are as fully informed as they can be for our properties which is why we include as much additional information in our Access Arrangements which are emailed to guests prior to their stay. We note that a more detailed description was included in yours: There is parking for one car on site. To access the parking space, you need to turn tight left into it. However, there is not a 360 degree turning area, so a 3 point turn will not be possible to exit. In order to get out from the parking space, you will need to carefully reverse your car back out. Thank you for your feedback.
The Challey at Heathcote
We spent a wonderful week in the Challey. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and every home comfort was catered for. It is in such a peaceful location, which is really only interrupted by birdsong, yet all amenities are easily accessible should you wish to be more active. It is a place to relax and we would happily return!
Wildwood
Our second time at Wildwood - almost 16 years apart and this time with two teenagers along for the trip. A great cabin in a great location, easily accessible to the Highlands with connectivity in all directions. If you just need some downtime and peaceful isolation, then there's plenty of of walking available from the cabin itself and most of the noises are wildlife! Cabin has everything you need from a creature comfort point of view too.
Croft Cabin
Fantastic accommodation and such a friendly host. The cabin was spotless with everything we needed in a tranquil location just a few minutes walk from the centre of Fort Augustus.
The Old Post Office
Wonderful cottage with views that are priceless. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Clashnessie beach is just a short walk away, as is Clashnessie Falls. Comical watching the sheep arrive and sit in the phone box in front. You will not be disappointed with the cottage or the area, if you stay here.
Cala
The architecture of the house is truly impressive, especially the many large windows, including the skylights. The view of the three Corbetts is truly fantastic, especially at sunset or sunrise. The kitchen with its central island was really practical, allowing us to enjoy the view while preparing meals. We really liked the house.
Upper Stewarton
We had a lovely stay at Upper Stewarton. The cottage was beautifully decorated and the surroundings were so peaceful. It was clean, well equipped and there was plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 children. The owner was responsive and provided clear instructions for check in. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future. We have a 4x4 type vehicle and would say it's necessary to access the location, perfect for an isolated escape. Despite it's peaceful location we were still within easy drives of visiting Peebles, Edinburgh, The Kelpies and Stirling.
Vindolanda
Stunning views and lovely neighbours. Clean and tidy house, a little chinzy with a not too comfortable sofa, also all windows are locked shut apart from the landing velux, but can't complain when your view is so beautiful. Also there's a perfect little beach near by. I would recommend it if you're not too worried about perfection just for its location.
Seascape Cottage
Lovely cottage, great attention to detail, welcome pack that was the best we have ever had. Excellent location although need good suspension for road down to cottage. Owners who live behind are on hand if you need anything . Only criticism was we found the bed uncomfortable and a curtain or privacy film on front door as bathroom directly opposite.
Seal Skerry Lodge
Wilderness Cottages always provide service with a wonderful personal touch. They are much more than a holiday rental company, they are fabulous people. We had a fantastic time at Seal Skerry Cottage with glorious weather. Perfect
Jura
Lovely peaceful location and great views over Loch Torridon
The Old Post Office
Our two weeks in this beautiful house went by far too quickly. From the moment we arrived, it felt like home. The view over the bay is absolutely breathtaking in all kinds of weather, something you'll never forget. The house was very clean, lovingly furnished, and well equipped. Communication with the agency was always extremely friendly and uncomplicated, just the way it should be. We can recommend the Inverpark Stores, a well-stocked supermarket, and, of course, the delicious pies from Lochinver Larder, an absolute must. As a starting point for wonderful hikes, the house was perfect for us. It's a true "soul place" in Scotland, we will definitely be back
North Lodge
Cottage is a great location and set within Lochnaw Estate, surrounded by wildlife. However, it is very dated and in need of much upgrading. The cottage is also in need of a thorough deep clean too. It smelt damp on arrival. We even had a bat in the main bedroom because the entrance to loft was not properly sealed. The TV is the size of a computer monitor and the dvd does not connect to it. We had issues with the hob and switched it off due to constant bleeping. The shower is the lowest pressure I've ever seen and the hot water is dangerously scalding. Overall, could be great but is let down by a complete lack of investment and cleaning effort. Outdoor furniture is a joke and completely unusable, given the setting this is very poor.

Shore Cottage
My daughter and I had the most amazing week at Shore Cottage. Such a special place overlooking the ever changing, dramatic sea. The surrounding wildlife was captivating and we even woke up to the cows in the garden one morning but they soon jumped over the fence onto the beach and ran off! Our dogs must have thought they had died and gone to heaven with the quiet beach in such close proximity. They had the time of their lives and just ran and ran all week! Mobile wifi is accessible in certain areas, so you aren't totally cut off from the outside world. I hope to visit again in the not too distant future.
Coorie
We had a fabulous stay at this wonderful property! Spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom and kitchen/living/dining room with outstanding views and every thoughtful touch you could wish for. Watching dolphins and eagles from the window was a huge bonus and privilege. We'd love to return!
Victoria Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Victoria Cottage in Sheildaig. The cottage is spotlessly clean and is well equipped with everything you may need. The beds were comfortable, so a good night's sleep is ensured and the views of Sheildaig Island and beyond are fantastic. There is also a restaurant/ bar, a little shop and a cafe in the village and the locals are very friendly and helpful, so this cottage and village come highly recommended from us!
Hill Cottage
Hill cottage is a fabulous cottage to stay if you want peace and quiet. It has everything you need for a week away. Fabulous wildlife and walks. Stunning scenery.
Seascape Cottage
Seascape Cottage had everything we wished for and more for a getaway from it all break. Welcomed on arrival by the owner we immediately felt at home and eager to explore the stunning coastline and wildlife from our doorstep. Our home for the week had everything you could need with all the mod cons and comforts, kitted out with thought and taste. Including a wonderful hamper and eggs from our hosts own hens, a lovey treat! The heating and water system is very efficient ensuring total comfort day and night, we were blessed with some beautiful weather but I have no doubt Seascape would be the perfect retreat after a day exploring on colder days. I would also recommend Seascape to anyone who is less mobile, my partner has some mobility issues and had no problems at all, no steps to the property or shower. We felt so privileged to be able to spend time in this little haven, I'd recommend to anyone seeking peace and tranquility.
The Coltsfoots
This was our second visit to Fort Augustus Coltsfoots and it is still a beautiful special place to stay in this fantastic area of Scotland. Everything about the lodge is first class, and it is in a very quiet location (surrounded by trees). We saw loads of the local wildlife,(sadly Not Nessie) The lodge is close to all the amenities in the town. We've had an excellent holiday and would highly recommend. A great base to see the highlands from
Seascape Cottage
We had a lovely relaxing week at Seascape cottage. If you want to escape the crowds this place is perfect. It is about a two minute walk to the coast and three sandy bays which our two dogs loved. You also have the coastal path if you wish to venture further, with an abundance of wildlife. The cottage is a good size and well equipped with everything you need. The owners were very helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive. We must mention the welcome hamper which was probably the best one we have ever had in a holiday cottage. Thank you both.
Port Elgol Cottage
Cottage and the location is stunning, we had a great week exploring the local area and the rest of Skye (2 adults with older teenage children). Cottage has everything you need including a very handy emergency kit which we had to use due to Storm Floris and the power cut that affected most of Skye. We hope to return one day.
Braehead Steading
We had such a lovely time at Braehead Steading. A beautiful house with lots of room for everyone. We were having a family reunion and the house was situated next to the house my uncle grew up in and also across the road is Tullich Graveyard where my grandparents were buried, so it had significant meaning to us. Would definitely stay again!
Loch Cottage
Cottage was exactly as described and a great base for Aviemore area. Loch was ideal for paddle boarding / swimming. Cottage was clean comfortable and well equipped. Good parking area for two large cars. Only thing of note for us was the lack of a microwave. Not a show stopper but a cheap upgrade to a great house.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay at Loch Cottage. Update - as of October, we can confirm there is now a microwave in Loch Cottage and the listing has been updated to reflect this.
Stable Cottage
We as a family were very happy to make a return visit to Stable Cottage and the Lochnaw Estate, as we were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay at this lovely cottage and beautiful Scottish Estate and to have enjoyed a wonderful holiday there last year. We were once again very grateful for the very comfortable and spacious accommodation, which this property provides and especially appreciated the peace and tranquility of the location of the cottage within the Lochnaw Estate, which is a very serene and atmospheric place, with areas of wild woodlands and wonderful grounds to explore, with a wide variety of trees and natural habitats thriving there. At the centre of the estate is the magnificent and historic Lochnaw Castle, which is an amazing sixteenth century tower house surrounded by beautiful well-kept lawns, where deer can sometimes be seen at the edge of the lawns or roaming amongst the woodlands and forestry that surrounds the formal gardens and grounds of this wonderful castle. Lochnaw Castle is at the heart of the estate and has a sense of the centuries' old history of the Agnew family, who built it, etched into its glorious architecture and stonework, with a variety of family crests and shields built into the stonework near the rooftop of the castle, and around the castle and grounds there is a strong feeling of the Scottish clan history that was responsible for building and designing this marvellous building and its beautiful grounds. Stable Cottage is a wonderful property for families wanting a more secluded and quiet and peaceful location for their holiday, and has a stunning natural forest and loch landscape on a traditional Scottish Estate to explore and the cottage itself is located in a very quiet and peaceful stable courtyard, which was built for the Agnew family in the 1850's and is at the centre of the estate and very near to Lochnaw Castle and its loch, so of an evening after a day on the beach or the coast, there is the opportunity to look around this wonderful tranquil natural environment and to visit this beautiful loch, that has areas of lily ponds and an old boathouse, which provide an amazing setting and backdrop for the very ancient and historic Lochnaw Castle. The Stable courtyard, where the cottage is located, has an old clock tower and weathervane and a tree at its centre and the owners of the cottage have provided outdoor seating there for when the weather is fine and so this is a lovely peaceful place to sit outdoors of an evening. Stable Cottage has plenty of space for families and has a large and spacious lounge, which is classically and simply styled, with three good-sized sofas in coastal blue seaside colours, which reflect the wonderful coastal landscape, which is not far from the cottage and that is also part of the estate and extends right up to the coast at Larbrax bay. The kitchen is large and spacious and is well cared for and very well- equipped and is appropriately styled in traditional Victorian style, cream-coloured country kitchen units, which reflect the traditional and rural character of the estate, with a large farmhouse table at the centre of the room, for gathering around for meals. All the bedrooms are comfortably furnished with good quality fittings and furniture, and the main bedroom has a lovely ensuite bathroom, so a very comfortable and excellent standard of accommodation is provided within this traditional character cottage, which has such an amazing natural environment and historic setting around it. This is really a very charming and comfortable older and classic country cottage property, which has been very nicely modernised in keeping with its rural character and it is ideal for those seeking the stillness and quietness and tranquility of nature. For families it is a delight to explore this traditional Scottish estate, with its wonderful historic setting, that inspires the imagination and is reminiscent of a fairy tale castle or a castle in a medieval or folk tale or a classic children's adventure story, as it still has preserved within the grounds, the beautiful old-fashioned, gated walled gardens that were designed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, which are gradually being restored and nurtured back to life and have wonderful areas of topiary, rose gardens and orchards. Within the estate there are lovely sun-dappled woodland paths, and a variety of ancient and characterful trees. The feeling of an enchanted forest surrounding a castle in a children's story can be felt amongst the varied and quite vast wild woodland areas and shrubberies that there are to be explored and discovered around the estate, and there are beautiful wild rhododendrons growing amongst the foliage and shrubberies. The remains of a couple of older cottages from the past history of the estate are located within the atmospheric nearby woodland of the cottage, and so Stable Cottage has an absolutely unique location and is a really lovely peaceful place for a holiday, with an amazing historic castle and its wonderful grounds to discover virtually on the doorstep of cottage. There is also a really magnificent coastal landscape to explore within the nearby vicinity of Stable Cottage. Not too far from the cottage and about a mile or two away, the quiet and peaceful Larbrax bay can be discovered along a path which journeys through rolling hills and past a couple of farms and arrives at a wonderful, secluded bay that has a superb long sandy beach, with the waves of the Irish sea lapping onto its shore and beautiful views towards the stunning cliff scenery at the Killantringan lighthouse. On a clear sunny day there are fine views towards the hills of the Irish coast and the outline of a lighthouse on the coast there can be seen in the far distance. About a fifteen-minute drive from Stable Cottage, the Killantringan lighthouse can be visited and from the cliff top where the lighthouse is situated, there are the most spectacular views of one of the finest stretches of coast and cliff scenery in the area and a length of beautiful long sandy beach, which has some interesting rock formations, a lovely waterfall and a fine stretch of golden sand beach, which extends up to Knock bay and also has a wonderful view of Knock Bay House, which has a unique and stunning location high up on the cliffs and above this amazing beach, and with its almost solitary setting, this imposing Scottish Baronial style house enhances this marvellous scenic view and adds a dramatic and romantic element to the magnificent cliff scenery of this area. On the other side of the cliff at the Killantringan lighthouse, the beautiful, rugged cliff scenery of the smaller Portamaggie cove can be found and there are some lovely quite high hills surrounding this beautiful spot and my husband discovered some good scenic walks along the peaceful coastal path there. Portpatrick is another place of rugged cliff scenery, with a fine harbour, which is the base for the RNLI and there are a few shops and hotels there and a number of entertaining and sporting family activities available, such as bowling, tennis and putting and also a very fine golf course, which is situated overlooking this magnificent stretch of coast and beautiful cliff scenery. There are regular musical events and tribute groups and also market and craft stalls organised for each weekend, and a folk festival is based in Portpatrick on an annual basis, so there is plenty to do in this lively and friendly seaside harbour town for anyone with a family to keep occupied and to entertain. The beautiful Dunskey Castle is located near Portpatrick and has the most amazing, rugged cliff top setting and is a wonderful place to take photographs and to take in and absorb the beauty and atmosphere of this stunning, coastal landscape view, and with the ancient remains of this scenic, early sixteenth century castle located on wild rugged cliffs, this is another fantastic place, which is full of history, that can be discovered within the local area of Stable Cottage and the Lochnaw Estate. There are some more wonderful, beautiful sandy beaches with lovely cliff scenery such as the ones at Port Logan and Ardwell bay within the Rhins of Galloway area, and also the amazing and dramatic, rugged high cliffs of the Mull of Galloway, which is known as the Lands' End of Southern Scotland, and has a lighthouse that was built in the early nineteenth century by the engineer grandfather of the writer Robert Louis Stevenson. The magnificent high coastal cliff scenery of the Mull of Galloway is only about a half hour's drive from Stable cottage and the Lochnaw Estate, so is within easy reach of the property. Stable cottage therefore provides a very good standard of comfortably furnished and classically styled, well- presented accommodation, with an absolutely unique and tranquil natural environment to enjoy and is beautifully situated close to the fascinating historical setting of Lochnaw Castle, and it was wonderful for our family to have had the opportunity to have stayed there again and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend it as a wonderful holiday cottage experience for those who enjoy beautiful historic buildings and value the peace and tranquility of nature. Stable Cottage also provides a really excellent and ideal base for visiting the whole of the Rhins of Galloway area within a relatively short drive. In addition to this, the cottage also offers the opportunity to have a contrasting experience of the local area and landscapes around the Wigtownshire and Dumfries and Galloway area and the chance to explore and visit some stunning rural and countryside locations further afield, while continuing to enjoy the coast and a seaside holiday on the Rhins of Galloway, and so this cottage also provides an ideal base and the opportunity to visit the wonderful lochs and lovely mountain and high moorland hills of the vast wooded and forested areas of the beautiful Galloway Forest.
