Poulary Cottage
We had a wonderful holiday at Poulary. The cottage was pefect, spotlessly clean and in a beautiful location. We were entertained every day by the abundance of wild life and left relaxed and happy after a lovely holiday and we hope to return next year.
The Challey at Heathcote
The Beach House at Garrachan
Station Cottage
Drumfad Cottage
Easter Knocklea Cottage
Stunning location. house is just superb. beautiful and clean, everything you could poosibly want for a lovely stay. stunning views form the garden. little shop not far from the house with lovely friendly staff.stunning walks, great location to explore great for dogs
Learag
We had a lovely holiday. The house, and the design of it was excellent, and the area around absolutely beautiful. Our daughter loved Nova (the little dog from next door) and her German Shepherd friend when they came to visit.
Charleston
Fantastic cottage with amazing views. Highly recommended.
Katie's Cottage
This cottage is in a wonderful position over looking the glen. It is spotlessly clean, with everything you could possibly need, it is home from home. Comfortable beds and lovely bedding. I would not hesitate in recommending Kate's Cottage. Thank you for a lovely week.
Seascape Cottage
We ony managed to book Seascape Cottage due to a cancellation, how lucky we were. We had a wonderful week at the begining of July, fabulous weather and fabulous accomodation. The cottage has all that you need for your stay, as well as being right next to the beach, try falling out of bed and straight onto the beach for your monrining walk, you will not be dissapointed. Lots of wildlife to be seen, birds, seals deer to name but a few. A lovely place to relax and unwind, or as we did visit all the local gardens. A beautiful place in a beautiful area. Thank you Sarah and Jag for letting us share your little bit of heaven.
Littlepark Cottage
Pityoulish Cottage
Beautiful cottage. Immaculate inside & out. We particularly loved the views from the garden & sitooterie to the river Spey & were lucky enough to see an osprey fly by. Good swimming & paddling in Loch Pityoulish & excellent mountain biking in the beautiful forests.
Beach Lodge
The location of the beach lodge is fabulous we needed a remote base due to our youngest of 5 being an autistic child. It was special to be able to walk about 100yds to the beach and have the ability to allow the children and the dogs to run free and explore the beach and rock pools whilst the lodge also allowed for a relaxing time due to its walled garden giving us a safe play space. Remember to take garden and beach toys with you if you are going there with children. The patio was secluded and shielded from the wind downside of this is there is no view at the rear of the property just the view of the bank covered in bracken. We were warned about not walking near the bracken due to ticks present. A few other points to be aware of on the beach at the time we were there a large number of lions mane jellyfish were washed up and a member of the public close by us got a nasty sting, The beach was rarely deserted we saw many other beach goers, fishermen fishing from the beach, a local guy turned up with a van and let 20 dogs out for a run and also one night saw wild campers in two large tents who left their rubbish behind when they left the next day. Most evenings the heard of cows come down to the field between the house and the beach to roam and on the last night were very aggressive towards my Husband as he was walking the dogs back from the beach about 40 of them came stampeding over and I had to go to pick him and the dogs up in the car to be able to get them back to the house safely. It may be because they have calves with the herd but please be aware of this if you have dogs it felt very frightening. As mentioned in most reviews the drive is very rough and much worse than we expected. It made us only want to make essential journeys so we didn't explore the area. The email confirmation recommends the use of a 4x4 and we would certainly endorse this as essential. I loved finding out about the history of the beach lodge the fact that it is listed by Historic Scotland as a building of historic interest and was built in 1789 the twin bedroom at the rear was originally the servants quarters. Lots of the character features remain curved walls, flagstone floors some original fireplaces windows with shutters etc. Overall we had a great time and would like to return especially if the worst part of the drive was to be improved.
Seascape Cottage
Excellent stay at Seascape. The cottage was very clean, plenty big enough for four and the location was stunning with sea views and a little beach. Hosts were on hand if needed but we were able to stay private too. Great stay and would definitely recommend.
Stable Cottage
Fabulous week spent at Stable cottage the surrounding estate is beautiful and so peaceful. A great base to explore the wonderful coast and countryside. The cottage would benefit from some redecoration but is very comfortable with everything one needs for a break away.
The Coltsfoots
What a fantastic stay we had at the coltsfoots. It was everything we wanted and so much more.
Cnoc Ard
We spent a very comfortable week at Cnoc Ard. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. Basically we could not fault it. Wi-fi strong and reliable...kept the teenager happy. 2 bathrooms a real bonus. Great location to explore the local area. Highly recommended.
North Lodge
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at North Lodge, a very well appointed dwelling in peaceful surroundings. The beds furnishings were very comfortable. We spent much of our time in the immediate vicinity of North Lodge walking around the Lochnaw Castle estate. We derived great pleasure from viewing the variety of birds on the feeders from the kitchen window, woodpeckers, wheatears (identified only after an internet search) finches, jays and many others. The red squirrels hogging the peanuts were a joy. Further afield we enjoyed the beauty of the surrounding area, the Mull of Galloway is a must. We visited Larbrax beach (we were the only people there) and Wig Bay & Lady Bay. We would definitely visit again.
Braehead Steading
This is a lovely house - very spacious, clean, tidy and well-equipped and with a very satisfactory number of bathrooms. The big garden was a bonus, as was the nearby Deeside Way: an easy route into Ballater, and used by all of us for walking, running and cycling. We had a wonderful holiday, and would be very keen to return.
Fon Tobar
Seascape Cottage
Great, well equipped, immaculate cottage. 2 minutes walk to the shore. Very quiet and peaceful. 20 minutes drive to Stranraer for shopping. If you get the weather a wee patio to sit on and amzing sunsets. The owners live next door and were really kind and welcoming. They provided a lovely welcome basket of goodies and pointed us in the direction of good walks. Would recommend.
Beach Lodge
We visited Beach Lodge with 3 generations of our family and dogs. The house and it's position is truly special. We had a wonderful week never leaving the house and the beach. The house is so comfy and everything is there to accommodate 8 people perfectly. The enclosed garden was safe for children and dogs to run and play freely and only a two minute walk to the beach. The road is a minor consideration because when you get past it the reward is one of the most memorable holidays. So much so our grandchildren cried when we left and we will be returning.
Shore Cottage
Absolutely fantastic! The cottage itself was lovely - clean, comfortable & better equipped than we expected. The location however is the biggest draw. Coming out of the front door of the cottage & to be walking on a beautiful beach 2 minutes later was just bliss! A gem of a cottage and one we will definitely be visiting again. A big thanks from all of us.
Port Elgol Cottage
This is a cute little fisherman's cottage - full of character, very well equipped, clean. Great instructions in the cottage too on how to use things, etc. It is a little far from Portree, but we didn't mind as the location of the cottage is fantastic. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets during our stay. Also, you need a car anyway in Skye to move around. For us, our stay at the cottage was serendipitous. About 19 years ago, during a trip to Glasgow we bought a painting of a cottage from a local artist. We were instantly drawn to it. When we saw the cottage on Wildnerness Cottages website, again we were instantly drawn to it and so booked it. It's only when we returned home that we realised that it's the same cottage in the painting hanging on our wall! If there is one thing that perhaps needs looking at is an addition of a proper electric dryier machine for clothes. On wet days, the air drying wasn't ideal. This notwithstanding, highly recommend.
Christies
The Barn, Corrimony
A fantastic house, much bigger than it appears on the photos. It had everything we required and was so clean and modern. We loved all the walks available from the house. There is secure storage for bikes, I wish I had realised this and brought our bikes to explore further.
Pooltiel House
The house is very nice; well-equippped and spacious with nice soft furnishings. Take everything you need as it is in a remote but stunning location. Great views of the ever-changing weather and scenery. The village has no amenities but nearby Glendale (40 minute walk) has a cafe and good shop. Otherwise, it's a 25-minute drive to Dunvegan along the single track road, which you get used to after a couple of drives. Everywhere on Skye is quite a trek from here apart from Neist Point. If you want peace and quiet in very comfortable surroundings, then this is the place for you. Sleeps 4 very easily in the 3 double bedrooms.
The Stables
This was our second visit to The Stables, and we were not disappointed. The house suits us perfectly as a couple, while having enough seats, crockery and cutlery for the occasional visit by family who were staying nearby. It's location is perfect, within very easy walking distance of both the harbour and the shops. The only thing that would improve it would be a view from the windows, but we understand that the historic building does not lend itself to that, and a short walk gives lovely coastal views. Crail is perfect for the type of holiday we like, with good walking routes and a good bus service to the other East Neuk villages and St Andrews. If I may make a suggestion it is to update the instruction information in the folder as both this year and last the information about the television was outdated and the bin bag referred to for used towels and bed linen was not present on either occasion either. These are minor points, though and should not detract from this review. We would recommend The Stables to any couple looking to stay for a week in Crail.
White-Tail Croft
This was such an excellent Croft. Very good location, stunning view and peaceful. The Croft has amazing facilities and everything you would need. The sauna was such a lovely bonus also. Would love to return !
Stoer Lodge
Lovely spacious and well-equipped property with a safe enclosed garden sitting immediately above a sandy bay which you will have to yourselves most of the time. Don't underestimate distances! Roads are narrow, winding and slow. Kylesku is an hour; only Lochinver with its heavenly pies is close by. If you like it remote you'll love it. Only negative to mention is the single bathroom and toilet which might be a significant challenge if a full party of 8 across two families.
Shore Cottage
The cottage was fantastic and the booking arrangements through Wilderness Cottages was seamless. Will definitely book again.
Learag
We have had a great holiday. So much to see and do. We have stayed in many cottages in the UK and abroad and Learag is up there with the best. We lacked for nothing and felt totally at home. Thank you
Score Bay Cottage
Poulary Cottage
Just what we wanted. A perfect get away from it all cottage with the huge bonus of wonderful wildlife. We had an amazing week and really did not want to leave.
Beech Lodge
Shore Cottage
We had an amazing week at Shore Cottage. The cottage is a delight with just a few minutes walk to a beautiful, very quiet beach. Our dog Bella was in heaven and when it was time to go, she wouldn't get in the car!!! Very comfy beds and the conservatory with the outdoor seating was great for evenings outside. As someone more used to staying in the Highlands it was a lovely change to not be bothered by midges. A memorable week in a very special place. Thank you, we have loved all our Wilderness Cottage stays but this one was our favourite.
Shore Cottage
Shore Cottage is the most amazing place, peaceful, beautiful cosy. We love spending time on the beach with our dog. We both have very busy lives and enjoy getting away from phones, and the Internet to completely unwind and relax. What a wonderful find. We have stayed here twice and can't wait to return.
Plodda Falls Lodge
We had a great second visit to this wonderful place. Lots of walks, to old haunts, as well as new ones. Still so much more to explore when we return next year. We want to add our thanks to those already expressed by so many visitors, to Jenny - she provides a friendly presence with lots of advice on how to get the very best experience of the Lodge and its glorious surroundings.
Woodpecker Pad
North Lodge
Excellent location, easy to reach nearby walks and beaches. Quiet and relaxing and all required amenities supplied. Cozy and comfortable cottage.
Tor Fionn
Charleston
Stunning location, could never tire of the view. House lovely and clean with everything you needed for a great holiday, large enclosed garden which the dogs loved. Basket of fruit a nice touch Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us.
Log House
Our 6th visit, and once again we were never disappointed, even the weather was great this year, not that that ever dampens the spirit, the log house as usual was well presented and has everything you will need, it's a great base for exploring the west and north, visits to Glen Affric, Walks through the forest never disappoints, this year we finally got a glimpse of the Pine Martin which visited the bird table at the cabin, if you like wild life the table will not disappoint as a good stock will bring all the birds, red squirrels and finally the martins the free entertainment is priceless, we will are already booked to return.
Cedar Cottage
We had a lovely week in Cedar cottage. Even though it seems you are in the middle of nowhere it only takes a few minutes to get to Forres, where you can shop. The parks in Forres are beautiful. The cottage is great. Much bigger than it looks and a great garden for dogs. Sit at the patio and see the birds feeding up close and red squirrels too. Loads of walks on your doorstep.
Log House
Another lovely week spent in the Log House, just love this place so much, well equipped and in such a perfect spot. The runs/walks up into the surrounding forest are just beautiful and the 5km loop right outside the front door is perfect for an early morning run to start the day. Great heating (not that we needed it this visit), fab log burner for the colder months and a really good shower (very important I think!) The only issue we had was the bats, every other stay they have been no problem, but this time they seem to have moved up to the head of the bed end of the bedroom and were so noisy that they kept me awake or woke me up most nights, not sure if its possible to relocate them.
Marnie's Croft
Stable Cottage
Stable cottage is tucked away behind Lochnaw castle in woodland abundant with wildlife. The walks and beaches are unspoilt and stunning. The local attractions like Portpatrick and Logan botanical gardens are well worth visiting. The locals are incredibly friendly and there is a whole variety of restaurants and eateries to tickle your tastebuds. The cottage was comfortable and reasonably well equipped. Its location is simply perfect for a wilderness holiday.
Seabank Cottage
A smashing wee cottage, ideally located for visiting both Wester Ross & Isle of Skye. Lochcarron is a pleasant village with adequate number of shops and restaurants. A couple of tweaks to the cottage would be to install 'blackout' curtains in the upstairs bedroom and along with an updated TV & TV package would enhance the stay.
The Coltsfoots
Absolutely love the Coltsfoot. A wonderful location within walking distance to the centre of Fort Augustus. The log cabin is well set out with everything you need to make the stay comfortable. Scrupulously clean and nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Would recommend the Coltsfoots.
Port Elgol Cottage
We spent a lovely week in Port Elgol Cottage. The cottage is well equipped, very clean and comfortable. In a perfect quiet location it was so relaxing listening to the waves and watching the comings and goings on the water. We can highly recommend this property.
