Oak Cottage

This is a lovely property in a beautiful setting, in a nest of similar cottages -- each with its own space and gravel path. There are great views, and a marvellous opportunity just to sit and watch the wildlife in the garden. Good walks can be had right from the doorstep. Everything in the house is exceptionally clean. Even the glasses in the cupboard (no smears) and cutlery in the drawer (all dipped). So full marks for that. The owners had also left unusually thoughtful and generous gifts around the house: wee cookies, coffee, wine, juice and milk in the fridge, hand-made soap in the bathroom. Lots of holiday cottages have just one or two toilet rolls -- this cottage had loads! The underfloor heating (included in the rental) meant it was extremely cosy all the time, and the heating easy to control. The woodturning stove doesn't burn as well as our stove at home, but you don't really need it, except for comfort and the look of the thing. Plenty of logs were supplied. Two points to note: you do have to carry luggage quite a way to get to the front door (plenty of parking but it is not right outside the door), and the gravel path is uphill. It is perfectly manageable, but had I been aware of this, I would have split our stuff into lighter bags (we are not young). The note from the owners, and all the lovely touches round the house, were beautifully personal. The automated responses from the booking agency were impersonal, and we only received information about how to access the property on the Tuesday of a week when we were arriving that same Friday. Since we had paid in full several weeks before that, this made us uneasy. We understand that government briefings about Covid make everything less certain for everybody, but it is helpful to be *told* why there are delays -- just a bit more personal approach from Wilderness Cottages would have been appreciated.

Stablemans Lodge

This was our 2nd stay at Stablemans Lodge, it is perfect for exploring the Cairngorms National park. Whilst being in a town, it is nicely tucked away and very peaceful. Only 5 minutes walk to pubs shops etc.The lodge was spotless and just as cosy as we remembered it. The added bonus now is the 'Hobbit House' an indoor bbq, absolutely brilliant! We would highly recommend this lodge .

Stoer Lodge

We had a wonderful break at Stoer Lodge- what an amazing setting- out the back gate and onto the most beautiful beach. The property sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms. There were only 2 of us and our dog so plenty space. Only having one bathroom might prove an issue for larger groups. The character of the old schoolhouse remains- but I feel that the property would benefit from some TLC- broken light fitting- faulty dimmer switch- protruding nail on floorboards-loose tap- kitchen cupboard front missing None of this detracted from our holiday- just pointing out that some repairs should be done to ensure others have a great holiday

After a extended wait for our visit to Old Lock keepers cottage, circumstances beyond our control !!!, the weather changed and we all had the best week, cottage is in a stunning tranquil position, which is just what we all needed, very busy on the canal, and wildlife in the garden so plenty to see, cottage very comfortable, garden room lovely.

It's all about Location and Tor Cottage really delivers. Our first stay for four adults, two excellent weeks with plenty to do especially walking on Harris. Thanks to Ruth and John who's local knowledge is certainly beneficial. If you're considering Tor Cottage don't hesitate just book it you won't be disappointed.

Arrivain Cottage

We absolutely loved Arrivain - it's a warm, cosy cottage, beautifully decorated with all the mod cons and had a very good internet connection. It was exceptionally clean and all the facilities (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and oven) were modern and in excellent working order. The walk-in shower was particularly fabulous as was the under floor heating. We loved watching the large numbers of red squirrels and were lucky enough to spot a pine martin one morning. Our hosts were friendly, warm and welcoming and we would definitely return.

We had 2 great weeks at Upper Folds, the peace and quiet and isolation was perfect. The cottage is comfortable and has all the basic needs. We enjoyed walking locally and was great for observing the local wild life, red deer, hare, Barn owls, buzzards and many more birds. There are lovely parts of the coast to visit and just over an hours drive to The Highland Wildlife Park. We shall return!

This is the easiest review I've ever done. The cottage is delightful and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. We sat in the conservatory for hours and were lucky enough to see an eagle swoop overhead and a herd of deer run across the field in front of the garden. Spotlessly clean and can only agree with all the other excellent reviews. If I could score more than 5, I would. Will be trying to book for next year.

Had a wonderful break at Burnside Cottage, Callakille. The directions and information given were spot on and the bottle of wine on arrival much appreciated. We were warm and cosy all week even though it rained a couple of days. Sitting in the roll top bath in the beautiful bathroom with a glass of wine, book and view across to Rona and Skye has to be one of those moments!

This is an excellent property, well designed and with good quality finishes and attention to detail. Three tidy two-person rooms but the selling points are the huge open living room/kitchen area with neat log-burner, the massive sea-facing terrace with a fabulous view and the cosy room with a second TV of the same high quality as in the living room. It's a steeply sloping driveway to the property on the edge of the town and the enclosed back garden continues the slope up to a gate which leads onto the many hill tracks which link up interesting iron age stone circles. Great dog walking straight from the back door! Highly recommended property to which we hope to return.

No description or photographs can portray the true beauty or size of this property. The entire house is finished to an excellent standard, spotlessly clean & had all the amenities we could've ever wished for. Set in quiet, scenic surroundings and yet still very accessible for Beauly/Drumnadrochidt/Inverness. Our hosts were nearby & on hand to help if we needed them and inside the property they have gone above & beyond to make the house Covid compliant & safe. This has been by far the best house we have stayed at with Wilderness Cottages and we definitely plan to return.

Katie's Cottage

We had used Wilderness Cottages the previous year and as Spain wasn't a viable option for us this year we decided to go back to Scotland and Wilderness Cottages. We were a little restricted as a lot of places had already been booked, but seeing Katies Cottage and the photos online (although there's no photos of the bathroom) we booked it. We weren't expecting great weather, but seeing Katies Cottage had a woodburner we were not too worried about weather. As it turned out the weather wasn't so bad with rain on just one day. We arrived at midnight so finding the cottage wasn't as easy as the day time, but good clear instructions led us to the gate. There were detailed instructions about the drive way and we could see why, its quite steep and laid to gravel. I parked inside the gate, opened the door and entered the utility room. Here there is a washing machine and hooks for coats and space to leave shoes. Ahead is a very large washroom, can't call it a bathroom as it has no bath, for my wife it was a small negative point but the walk in shower for me was a bonus! Can't please everyone!! The living area is one large room with a well equipped kitchen and a table for eating at, or playing cards, my wife would have used it for a jigsaw, but she didn't bring one and we didn't have any cards either so we just ate at the table. The living area is very nice and comfy, the telly works fine with a few channels to watch or you could light the woodburner and watch the flames. A staircase runs centrally up from the middle of the room to a landing that really is a bridge, you'll see when you get there that connects the two bedrooms both more or less the same in size and layout. One room has a double bed the other is a twin. Sky lights with a very effective blind to keep out the light or to leave open to see the stars. The local shop is a tardis, looks small on the outside but inside it sells everything you might need to get through the summer and winter, it even sells a small selection of wiper blades!! Our stay at Katies Cottage was very pleasant and both my wife and I and our daughter who came with us can highly recommend this lovely place. I have a little drone footage I took and put on to You Tube, search Katies Cottage Isle of Skye on you tube.

Probably the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in, we have been holidaying in Scotland for well over 20 years, and have stayed in cottages all over, this has to be the best, it's big, well appointed, comfortable, clean, modern but still feels traditional and the location is is just stunning, the only criticism I can come up with was the Wi-Fi was terrible, but who goes to the Highlands for Wi-Fi? We have stayed before and I have no doubt that we will stay again.

Loved the isolated location of this dog friendly cottage and not too far away from Aviemore for amenities you require. Cottage is a nice size with a good kitchen and a lovely conservatory over looking the countryside. Bathroom feels like it could do with a bit of an upgrade though. Looking forward to returning at some time in the future, and my two dogs had a great time with some stunning walks in the area.

Log House

Really enjoyed our stay at the log house, lovely peaceful setting, we were very lucky with the weather whilst there. we used it as our base from which to explore the area we got as far as Skye and Aviemore, the highlands are so picturesque, around every turn in the road there seemed to be another great vista I will never forget our first sight of Eilean Donan castle on our way to Skye, or the magnificent sunset seen from Mallaig on the return journey, simply stunning. Back at the Log House we had red squirrels, robins and blue tits eating seeds and nuts we had bought for them and not a pigeon in site. And a walk through the forest was really relaxing, altogether an amazing stay.

My husband and I had the most wonderful and relaxing week at Balneden. The lodge was fantastic and had everything we could possibly need. It was fresh, clean and homely. I loved their eco friendly ethos and the welcome gift basket was lovely. Julie and Phil were friendly but not intrusive. Their hard work and dedication was appreciated greatly. We had fab weather for September and walked all over the Glenlivet estate. It is a beautiful, peaceful area an all I could think about was coming back again. We wanted peace away from city life and "covid craziness" so the fact the internet is not great, didn't bother us at all! The cosy fire, views and walks were enough for us. The dog loved it too. They are well updated with covid regulations and the Grain Store was spotless, with clear and easy instructions to cleaning etc. Thanks so much!
