We thought the cottage was wonderful. The only complaint we had was the beds! They were soooo uncomfortable. I would definitely go back to the cottage. It has everything you need and there was a great amount of fuel for fire. Perfect place for a relaxing break.

Another great week at Lilybank. Once again thoroughly enjoyed our time at this great cottage and highly recommend Lilybank to either just chill around the cottage or use as a perfect base to explore the Highlands.. Already planning our trips for next year, especially after catching two salmon from the river Oich !! Thanks again for a great stay..

We had such a wonderful holiday at this beautiful cottage, the location of being close to Fort Augustus while retaining the beautiful isolation of being in the middle of a forest was ideal. We were without Internet for a couple of days but that was resolved, and it didn't spoil our experience. I would highly recommend the Log House, a lovely place to stay for your holiday

What shall we say? We had an unimaginably great time in this really beautifully located, tastefully furnished and carefully cleaned cottage. Its secluded location and unique sea view are priceless! The landlords are incredibly nice and helpful. They even organised us a bike and a suitable lock so that we could explore the area without a car. All in all a perfect holiday!

This cottage is amazing. It is immaculate, well stocked with amazing views. It is central to a lot of areas of interest. We have spent years travelling around Scotland and this cottage is by far the best. The dogs loved the garden..it was very safe. If you want seclusion and no noise then visit Charleston. We will definitely be booking again next year.

Fantastic location, have been many times before. Feel I must mention a couple of things ie. bin situation don't like the idea of taking bags of rubbish up to the bins in my car. No where to store bin bags outside, didn't want to leave outside at night because wildlife ripping the bags.Drive very bad does not encourage you to take bags up making a special journey and when you have four people and a dog in the car don't want smelly bags of rubbish on the seats. When we used to come years ago there was a bin outside the property which was emptied by the owner on change over day. Drive way very bad also cows with calf's in paddock a bit dodgy walking through to the beach with a dog, on a lead I might add cows charged a couple of times and paddock smelly and flies due to cow muck.

What a fantastic cottage in beautiful surroundings. A lot of thought has been put in to this cottage by the owners and I can honestly say it is one of the best equipped cottages that I have ever stayed in and that's been quite a few. The little beauty boxes in each bathroom are great, stocked with everything from toothpaste, shampoo and sanitary wear and the welcome gifts were very generous and much appreciated. The cottage is in a beautiful setting with fantastic views and we were lucky enough to see the deer trotting across the surrounding fields, red kites swooping around the garden and a large gathering of mistle thrushes in the garden. Needless to say we will be back again.

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything you could want. The view from the kitchen window was wonderful no matter the weather. The owners had thought of everything to make us feel welcome. The tray with a tea bag, sugar and shortbread and milk in the fridge waiting for us on arrival was so unexpected and much appreciated.

WOW, a very special property!!! A very simple floor plan very comfortably built. The location is spectacular and remote. We could not see a lightbulb to the horizon in any direction. One evening was cloudless and the stars were incredible. We saw the Milky Way emerge at sunset and were surprised by the North Star overhead. Luxurious, comfortable, warm. Perfect for a disconnection from your smartphone, the internet and the world.

Balachladdich

We enjoyed our recent stay in Balachladdich with family. The beds were so comfy, everything was spotless. A safety gate.at the bottom of the stairs would have been usefu!, We had a very active 2 year old with us who can't keep still and wanted to play on the stairs. When you get to the top there are a few steps to each bedroom and she loved it. On returning home she got up on the next day to ask where the palace had gone.

The cottage is in a perfect location and was a wonderful place to stay. We were very happy to make use of the wood-burning stove on a couple of rainy evenings so it was kind of you to leave us kindling and some logs. Everything was very comfortable and we coped easily with the water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, wonderful location - everything a wilderness cottage should be. We were a bit disconcerted at having a bath in brown water. !!!!!! It would be really helpful if there was a shower as with 4 adults sharing a house without one is rather awkward

Wilderness Cottages Replied...

Dear Mr Spencer Thank you for your review - so glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, with a private water supply, the water can be somewhat discoloured - especially in the Cairngorms. We will pass on your recommendation regarding the shower to the owners.

Plodda Falls Lodge

Plodda Falls Lodge is a little slice of heaven. Frozen in time and full of wonder. The surrounding forest is straight out of a Tolkien novel, wild, mysterious and full of wildlife. You can fill your days exploring the vast and ancient forest, forage for wild blueberries and raspberries, wander up the track and visit the breathtaking Plodda Falls and, weather permitting, take a dip in the cool fresh water. The night time brings it's own beauty, skies full of stars and bats skillfully soaring through the skies. And a peaceful quiet decends over the highlands. Jenny (and Kevin) are very welcoming, Jenny made a delicious cake for our arrival which was greatly appreciated along with the lovely fresh lettuce and eggs she gifted us. Also as a parting gift we received a delicious bottle of Plodda Falls elderberry cordial. Overall a very relaxing and peaceful week. Sad to leave such a wonderful place and we will definitely return. I leave a little piece of my heart at Plodda.

We had another great week at the Log House but, be warned, there are a lot of bats roosting in the roof space. This didn't bother us previously and may indeed be a strong appeal to many people (if you like bats) but if you're not keen on bats do be aware. They were very noisy in the main bedroom and we did have one find it's way into the kitchen one night. If you like bats though it really is a super cabin.

White Tail Croft is a beautiful house where the owners have thought of everything. The sauna is great after a hike, coffee machine, comfy beds, log burner, lovely soaps etc etc. It's only a 15-20 drive from Portree however it's wonderfully located with fantastic views. It would be a fab place for a honeymoon, it was lovely and warm when we arrived and spotless, we loved it
