Cedar Cottage

Our 3rd visit to this gem of a cottage, set in the forest, a stunning place to relax and unwind. The cottage was immaculate and a generous welcome pack on arrival, thank you. We absolutely love this cottage, so peaceful and a haven for watching the wildlife. Birds were in abundance and we were able to sit on the patio and watch the birds and red squirrels feeding in the tree just a few feet away. This visit we were lucky to see visiting pine martens in the garden every day. They made light work of the peanuts we left for them. The mother and kit was a joy to watch. The cottage has lots of stunning sandy beaches to visit a short drive away and we watched dolphins at Hopeman, Burghead and Cullen. We will return, feels like home from home here. Thank you

Our 2nd visit to Cedar Cottage, if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay the cottage is just perfect. Beautifully presented, a generous welcome pack and a lovely garden to sit and watch the wildlife. Squirrels are regular visitors to the feeding station and an abundance of birds daily. There are lots of forest walks directly from the door. Forres is only 15 minutes away for all your shopping needs. Lots of stunning beaches to visit just an hour away. Absolutely loved our stay at Red Kite cottage. The cabin is well equipped and was immaculate, a generous welcome pack and fresh flowers, thank you. Margret and Paul were on hand if needed. The garden is well cared for and the views of the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We loved watching the red kites overhead and the lambs frolicking in the fields. The cottage is perfect for exploring the Black Isle, the proximity of the A9 makes exploring further afield easy ( we didn't notice any noise from the A9) only about 10 minutes from Inverness. Lots of lovely beaches and opportunities to watch for dolphins ???? on the Black Isle. A fantastic cottage to relax in. Looking forward to our next visit.

First stayed in the barn 8 years ago and always said we would return, we stay in a cottage 4 or 5 times a year and have been all over Scotland but this has to be the best cottage views out them all , we spent the evenings watching the changing views of the 5 sisters and never had the tv on once A fantastic base for visiting the surrounding areas , Glenelg, Skye , Plockton etc . The only fault we could find with the cottage was the poor, uneven flooring between the front door and the bedroom, it really could do with being fixed but it wouldn't stop us from returning again Book it , you won't regret it

Plodda Falls Lodge

I don't think that I can add anything to the previous reviews!! Plodda Lodge is an extremely comfortably equipped cottage. The kitchen had everything we could have needed (other than Pasta bowls!!!!). Apart from the Garden, we only used the dining room area which was very spacious with good views across the garden. The main bedroom was enormous, with a huge and very comfortable bed, and with windows on 3 sides. It was completely peaceful. Sleeping with the windows open gave us a cool breeze during a heatwave and silence.... At home, although rural, we have traffic and Wood Pigeons from 5.00am so this was bliss!! Jenny enjoyed revisiting after 50 years!! Her cousin bought Plodda Lodge in about 1972 and visited as a 10 and 11 year old.. It was a LOT more basic back then!!!! We both enjoyed spending days in Strathfarrar, Glen Affrich and Glen Cannich. Saw Ospreys, Cuckoos, Golden Eagle, Merlin, Peregrine, Sandpipers with chicks, RB Mergansers plus all the expected. Slavonian Grebes at Loch Ruthven (worth a detour) We will visit again but will have to be sooner then 50 years though, for obvious reasons !!!! It was an absolutely beautiful week. Maybe a highlight was rescuing a 97 year old lady on a mobility scooter who ran out of battery power in a storm on the track back to the Plodda Falls Waterfall car park. As we got her scooter into the car, the lightning was striking in the surrounding trees!! I shouldn't be recommending Plodda so strongly as will make it more difficult for us to rebook !! Seascape is a fantastic holiday cottage that exceeded our expectations. The location was superb, with stunning views of the sea and the hills. We loved walking on the two nearby beaches, which were clean and sandy. Our dog also had a great time on the beach and in the sea, running, digging and splashing around. The cottage itself was cozy and well equipped, with everything we could ask for. The hosts were very kind and generous, greeting us with a delicious welcome pack with local products and sharing some of their homegrown rhubarb with us. We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at Seascape and would definitely come back again.

Jura

Jura Cottage is located on the Applecross peninsula and has a most incredible view of the mountains. The location is perfect. The cottage itself is a typical cottage of the area with a lovely veranda which can be used when it is not raining. When it is, it is too cold unless one uses blankets which were not available in the cottage (at least none which were not eaten by the moths). The cottage is heated with electric heaters which work well, however it does mean that one comes home to a cold house which for us was not so good as it rained a lot and basically it was cold all the time. It is not possible to take a nice shower after a cold day in the rain, because the shower has very little pressure and a thin stream comes out. Certainly not enough to wash hair. The cottage was dark (which is to be expected of a traditional cottage), but did not feel very clean. There was no welcome package, so we did not know where to find the internet code or how to things worked. Fortunately a friendly neighbour helped us out. The cottage had a lovely fireplace and enough wood for two days. That was really nice. All in all, this cottage has potantial but a lot needs to be done. Throw out the 50 year old moldy books, give it a REALLY good clean (and clean it regularly), get rid of all the carpets which do not feel too clean either and generally prepare it for guests. We did have a lovely time, but the cottage did not contribute too much to that.

Lovely walks straight from the door, nice pubs and cafes in Fort Augustus but also very easy access to drive around the Highlands to get to see things further afield. It was our first time to this region of Scotland and there was plenty to expore locally so it's a great base away from the more crowded areas. Thank you for the welcome pack of goodies too. We came with our dog and we found it to be an easy place to have her, with the uncarpeted floors as we could sweep through easily. Seabank Cottage is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Lochcarron, Plockton, Applecross and Skye areas. Being the only cottage right on the shore side of the road, we spent most of our time, while in the cottage, looking out the small picture window from the kitchen right across the Loch at the wildlife and scenery, using the two pairs of binoculars kindly provided in the cottage. The cottage is comfortable, with a superb power shower, and is well positioned in the village of Lochcarron for all eating establishments and the local mini supermarket. A bonus for us with our electric car is that there is an EV charger again just a few steps along the road, so we started every morning with a full tank of electricity!

Lovely cottage with a fantastic view! You have to go outside to get the best view though. We saw deer nearly every day. Usually very early in the morning and it's very important to not make any noise. We also saw an otter in the water(binoculairs) AND a small group of porpoises one evening! It's a lovely & quiet place. Kyle of Lochalsh was a bit of a disappointment. But for a nice bite to eat you can go to The Clachan in Dornie. You have to make a reservation though. Eilean Donan Castle is a must as it's very nearby and it's worth the visit. There are a few lovely walks in the neighbourhood. It was lovely to be able to cook on a Rayburn. Our advice is to extend the worktop on the left side of the sink, it would make it more workable to do the washing-up. There is no dishwasher, which was a bit of a bummer(but we knew that beforehand). But there were not enough glasses so we kept having to wash the same glasses all the time. And that's not particularly a nice thing to do while on holiday. We had asked the caretaker on our second day there if we could get more water-& whisky glasses. We did get the whisky glasses, but never got the water glasses. The bed was fine but the double duvet was not wide enough for 2 people. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay. And we can recommend this cottage to anyone who seeks rest, wildlife and a fantastic view. Adrian & Harriet (from Holland)

Lochcarron itself is an extremely pleasant village with a good range of local facilities in comparison with much of the Highlands so it makes a very good base to stay in, offering opportunities for both serious walkers with transport and less energetic visitors who can walk from the cottage or after a very short drive. Plockton, Sheildaig and Applecross all offer scenic (and in Applecross's case dramatic) outings and Skye is also in easy reach within an hour by car.
