A lovely example of a cottage bearing true testimony to their name....we stayed in beautifully appointed accommodation in the middle of nowhere. It was just great doing boring stuff - getting up late, leisurely brunch and then reading in a lovely sunroom - perfect way to recharge the batteries. Beautiful countryside and nice to see the wildlife close up too. Not that we overdosed on chilling out - we went out to some of the lovely areas close to us - Fort Augustus is a must, Inverness and Dingwall too. Also made time for a couple of longer walks close by to the Cottage. Go on; book it!!

This is our first stay at Cameron's Cottage. What a stay we have had!... It's was amazing. The cottage was clean, well kept and very well equipped. It was both warm and welcoming. The views are lovely, able to look down the valley to the fields where the horses, Highland cattle roam, geese and other wild birds have great fun on the pool. The cottage is also dog friendly, our boys loved having a plod around the garden. The tea room isn't too far to walk to. Which Morag also owns - sadly we ran out of time to pay a visit - but it was always busy. Both Ali and Morag are very friendly and helpful and are always at the end of the phone if you need anything. We will be booking again at Cameron's Cottage.

Nothing had quite prepared us for Toberaie's spectacular high hillside setting, and the breathtaking views of the Cairngorm massif and western skies that only got better as the days passed. The house and its family history are sturdy and comforting, giving a feeling of rootedness in that wildly beautiful place. And whilst amply equipped as a holiday cottage (including such luxuries as a dishwasher, electric blankets and wood-burning stoves!), it is Toberaie's situation and drama that give you what you really need from a holiday in this sublime area: endlessly rewarding walks from the front door in authentically Scottish nature; awe-inspiring views that put everything back into perspective; and true, priceless tranquility. Toberaie was just exactly what we'd been longing for - and then some.

What a haven from real life! The house is so different..and quirky, in all the right ways. Warm and welcoming too. The hosts were so friendly and helpful and all praise to their housekeepers. Saw one of the otters four times while I was there, twice on a rock eating fish and grooming, thanks to the telescope provided. Some Large birds diving headlong into the sea. Only suggestion would be a bird/wildlife book. The 180 degree view is unbeatable..and I am used to the west coast. Early morning sunrises beyond belief. Staff at Laide post office so friendly and helpful and a great wee shop. Mellon Udrigle beach a mile away spectacular. Sandy/pebble shore outside the house also wonderful. Cannot praise the place enough. I will be back.

Lots of outside parking and a fantastic covered veranda for drying wet/muddy clothes and shoes. The owners also let us use the shed for storing a bike, which we]as excellent. This is a very welcoming place to stay. Fizz and treats and generously offered with firewood, food essentials and more. It's well equipped for cooks and comfortable with Bluetooth portable speaker, a good quality TV and that fabulous sauna for when the weather makes staying in with a fire and books a great option. Large picture windows, deer and buzzards coming quite near. The house is really lovely, modern, well designed and easily the best place we have stayed at in Scotland (and we come annually) and the photos don't really do it full justice as it's much roomier than we expected. It feels quite isolated but really quite near to Portree for eating out and shopping. Two small points: This is a very individual thing but for us the bed was quite hard so maybe either bring a soft topper or perhaps the owners can store one away for us softies. Also the food cupboard at the far left was so full that there is now nowhere in the kitchen cupboards to put anything that you bring or buy. But they are tiny things and we were so happy to be there. Highly recommended and thank you for sharing your wonderful place in Skye.

We booked Toberaie to get away, be remote and have the winter wilderness experience - and boy did we get it! Arrived in very heavy snow and temperatures of minus 10. It is a rustic old cottage with a lot of character and history which we loved. No central heating but fire wood provided, electric heaters and the real treat for us were the electric blankets. We needed them! The views are absolutely amazing, night stars, complete silence, it was a wonderful get away for us. Kids can just go out and explore, they loved it . Kitchen had everything we needed and although small, functioned well for us. Like other reviews living room fire chews up the wood and doesn't give out too much heat (although we really did have very low temperatures) so we just shut the door to the living room and lived in the dining room - that stove works well and is fairly economical with the wood usage. We enjoyed our time there, and since being home the children keep asking to go back, so I think we will be back!

The garden is large and enclosed, perfect for our dogs who loved running round in it when they weren't out on long walks in the forest! Jenny is the perfect host, lovely and welcoming, and although we didn't see her on our second stay she still made sure that the house was nice and warm on our arrival (which was much appreciated after our long journey across from Ireland!), and that there was some fresh flapjack waiting for us in the kitchen. This is a wonderful place, a beautifully conceived and executed house design in a stupendous setting. The house is extremely well appointed and I could have spent all week looking at the view from the living room or the outside deck. Two days of snowfall meant that I was slightly restricted in how much of the surrounding area that I could explore but what I did see only whetted my appetite to return to take in more of the hills, lochs, beaches of near white sand and azure seas. The unexpected bonus was learning that Assynt is "a Mecca for geologists" initiating a new found interest in geology.

Well our 4th time to Charleston says it all. Especially as we are very fussy about where we stay. The accommodation is very warm, welcoming and clean, plus the rooms are all large and nicely furnished. The wrap around garden is totally secure for dogs to do their own thing, with many diverse walks from the door. Admittedly we visit in the winter months, but never see another sole, great if your dog is reactive. This time the icing on the cake was being treated to a brilliant display of the Northern Lights. No light pollution at Charleston. I would highly recommend it if you want peace and tranquility, with Loch Ness nearby, and Inverness only about 25 mins drive away

The cottage itself was lovely and very comfortable. It had everything we needed for our stay and the area was very tranquil. The only thing to let it down is that when we arrived the cottage was very cold as there was no heating on (I believe the last guests had been there 3 weeks previous) and had not been made ready for our arrival. Not what you need at the end of a 4 hour drive. I am not sure where the mistake happened and the caretakers, when I finally got old of them, were very nice and apologetic and came over to make the beds and replenish items.

9 days home from plodda Fall Lodge, but it actually feels like we left our home 9 days ago!!! The holiday blues have well and truly kicked in. The wonderful Jenny met us on arrival with a warm welcome, roaring fire and delicious cake. Jenny and Paul have created the most enchanting cottage, which instantaneously inspires tranquillity and utter relaxation as you walk through the door. The cottage itself is well equipped, with everything you could possibly need, including a large freezer, which is a rarity in holiday lets. The custom-made "plodda falls" bed is devine. My once loved bed at home now pales in comparison. Every room is just perfect but our favourite room was the living area, with a beautiful stone feature wall and roaring fire. Many a night, we spent snuggled up with a wine, feeling content and blessed. My husband, 2 dogs (Fergus and Dougal), and I loved exploring all the stunning places Jenny suggested - her knowledge of the local and wider area was very much appreciated. Fergus is a golden retriever, so it felt extra special living on the Guisachan Estate where GR's were first bred. The enclosed gardens are stunning and were just coming back to life (we visited early feb), with snowdrops breaking through the cold winter soil. Incidentally, snowdrops represent hope, purity, inspiration, and renewal - all of which you experience while staying at plodda Falls Lodge. My husband and I enjoyed our daily adventures with our dogs, reading in the evening, chatting or playing board games, and just generally enjoyed each others company. This was mainly due to the fact there is absolutely no mobile phone signal that makes you refocus your attention on your surroundings and each other. I should note there is WiFi, but I didn't use it once. Bliss! I could go on and on about how wonderful plodda is. However, It's hard to find the words to truly articulate how magical plodda Falls Lodge is. My advice would be to book now and experience this little slice of heaven for yourself. It's so amazing we've booked to go back in Nov. Can't wait!!

We have just returned from the most perfect break for the two of us and our dachshund. I mention the dog particularly as you could close the main gate to have a completely safe enclosed area for her to run. Initial access was tricky relying on a sat nav as it loses its signal before arrival but once you are on the correct track it's easy enough. The cottage is very remote. There is no TV or Internet and it proved to be just what we needed and reminiscent of times gone by before the digital revolution. The cottage is beautifully furnished and has comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Cooking is from a gas fired Aga style hob which took a bit of adapting to but once understood worked very well. Shopping for basic supplies can be obtained from Dufftown or if you need anything more there is a large ASDA at Elgin. We did not venture out much and spent our week reading and playing board games. I really do encourage more people to take time out from their phone. In summary this stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend it to other visitors.

The peace and quiet make for a very relaxed stay, whilst Fort Augustus to the north or Laggan Lock to the south are both easily accessible by cycling or walking along the relatively flat tow path.
