Lots of lovely coastal walks and lots of interesting places to visit. You can walk for hours and not see a soul. This has been the fourth occasion we have enjoyed the excellent facilities afforded by "Ardbeg". Certainly one of our favourite holiday rental homes and it is with complete confidence I predict any tenant will be suitably impressed. It was particularly pleasing to find such a vast improvement with BT wi-fi access during this last visit. Many thanks to the owners for the pride taken in the property.

This was our 2nd time staying at Lilybank and once again we had a lovely holiday. The property itself is immaculate and well equipped with everything you could need. We enjoyed games nights at the large dining table, cosy chats in the comfortable lounge and afternoons watching the boats from the garden. Easily enough room for 6 adults who don't want to be on top of each other all the time! Fort Augustus is a lovely location, well placed to visit the Highlands area. We would highly recommend a visit!

We have just had a fabulous relaxing week at Leachachan barn. The barn is well equipped and a real home from home with fabulous views and wildlife watching opportunities. It's on the quieter side of the Loch with forest walks directly up behind. A beautiful property in a stunning location, with a delightful host. We were really impressed. There's so much space and light inside, all the furniture including beds was very comfortable, well equipped kitchen, and a high standard of cleanliness. The surroundings are idyllic, with highland cattle and a pony in the field next door and beautiful views everywhere. It's a quiet location but a short walk away from a cafe serving delicious food, and not much further on foot to the village of Foyers, with a waterfall, shop, post office and cafe. A good base for exploring Loch Ness and the surrounding countryside. Thoroughly recommend

Matheson's Croft House

Matheson's croft is a very well equipped cottage which fitted all our needs and everything of the equipment worked perfect. At our arrival things were prepeared to make us a perfect stay, kitchen, gear, dishes and bathroom were very clean. We also want to support the "no pets statement". There is a good selection of DVD and books for rainy days. Furniture is comfortable, especially beds and sofa and decoration of the walls is nice to look at. The Rayburn has been easier to use than expected as this was new to us. This remembered us on times we were cooking on a wood fired oven at home. Otherwise outside the house some improvements can be done. First of all an access to the lochside should be made, a door through the fence and cut clear a walkway. Unfortunately a note about the fenced off lochside is missing in the house description. Also some gravel can be added in front of the back door, there is a puddle that slowly dries after a rainy day. Probably the cleaner of the house will estimate this too, of course we changed footwear on the doorstep, but some dirt always finds it's way to the inside floor. So the outside is why our rating is one step down from excellent (house excellent, outside good).

Plodda Falls Lodge

This is a beautiful cottage, lovingly restored by the owners. The rooms are spacious and so well furnished. The garden is fully enclosed and well kept. The forest is on the door step and it is like having your own private forest at certain times of the day. I don't think we have ever been anywhere so quiet. There is a really interesting history of the Guisachan Estate (Plodda Falls Lodge is part of this) and lots to see and do in the surrounding area. Jenny, the owner is on hand to answer any questions you have or to give you suggestions about different walks if you need. The nearest shops are a bit of a drive away in Cannich so I would arrive with food etc. Midge repellent is also advised depending on when you are visiting. We had a great holiday and I look forward to returning in the future.

Cottage has lots of character and everything you need. Lovely enclosed gardens and ideal location right at 2 locks on the canal, it's very quite but busy at the same time, relaxing though. Stairs are steep as advised to the bedrooms upstairs. This cottage is not perfect but the good bits make it a great place to visit. We did feel more cleaning was needed done in between guests but this is the only issue Sunroom is great also, larrge utility room Can walk in both directions from cottage and fort Augustus is a 4 mile easy walk along the path.. Fort William 30 mins away. Urquhart castle 30 mins away also. Fort Augustus also has a few shops and boat trips. Location is ideal for visiting surrounding areas.

Don't get caught out.....you have been warned. We had the BEST week weather-wise too. And who says it rains in Scotland?:) We returned home looking as if we'd spent a week on the continent.

Coorie

Our first word as we went through the door was, "wow!" This "cabin" is both fantastic and slightly aggravating.... Fantastic because it's so very comfortable, beautifully equipped and very tastefully decorated but slightly aggravating because you just know that your wife will be logging away all the lovely features and insist they are added to your own (now slighly down-graded) home. The comfort here is amazing; the weather on Skye is unpredictable to say the least but inside Coorie its always warm and quiet, despite half of one side being glass. Talking of glass... the view is to die for. The rocky shore is about 300yds away and can be reached fairly easily through the bracken. The bathroom; luckily we've changed our bathroom in the last 8 months or so (after a holiday in Yorkshire!). Good job too because the bathroom is large and the bath big enough to replace the ferry from Kylerhea! The bed was large and comfortable (Audrey took a photo of the mattress label so that we can get one!) and was always a comfortable temperature and quiet, despite us having stormy weather and very mild nights. The surrounding area was perfect for us... plenty of wildlife, very quiet and beautiful views. In 30 years of travelling around various parts of the UK, we have NEVER had a property this good. It's absolutely amazing and shouldn't be judged by it's cabin-like appearance from the outside. You MUST take binoculars and you WILL fight over the view from the armchair in front of the window. We are now at home in Dorset and Audrey is preparing me a, "to do", list. Joking aside, this place is fabulous.

I really enjoyed my stay at Cala. The house is amazing, almost perfect. It is well-equipped and there are instructions available for all equipment. The views over Loch Nedd and Quinag are ever-changing and provide a fabulous panorama. The sheep around (and under!) the house are entertaining, if sometimes able to generate curious noises. There's plenty of wildlife to be seen from the house - binoculars are a must to take advantage of the seals, birds, deer (including swimming deer on Loch Nedd) and otters. I understand the idea behind no blinds but I would prefer a blind in the bedroom - it's not inconceivable that somebody might wander to the front of the house. The broadband was very unstable when I was there - at times so wobbly that it wasn't possible to do a basic search to book a boat trip.

Leachachan Barn

This is a beautiful property set in a picturesque location. Everything about it was brilliant, we loved the fire after a day of exploring, and the bottle of Talisker was a lovely touch. The property has ample facilities for a week or 2 away, the road in front of the barn isn't too busy, but its worth noting the barn is a short distance away from a Salmon fishery so you do get workers etc travelling down at various points. Its in a stunning location with easy access to a lot of things to do. We took a drive to Talisker beach, it was rainy throughout but still stunning, the drive down to the small parking area was bumpy and it seems that the local landowner has a slight issue with people parking up as he suggested the council come down regularly to ticket vehicles. You can actually see Eillean Doonan castle from the front garden if you squint, and if you follow the road to the left in front of the house you get a great view of the castle from the opposite side of the loch. The castle has a lovely cafe serving decent food, and there is a bakehouse a short distance away too. The CO-OP at Kyle of Lochalsh has a good selection of food and nibbles if you run out. Well worth a mention is the beach at Glenelg, lovely wide sandy beach with some fantastic views. We always travel with our little dogs, one of which has mobility issues, so we can't take her on huge walks. it was just nice to lay on the huge comfy sofas and watch the loch. Well worth the journey from South Yorkshire. Thanks for letting us stay
