Staycation Scotland – Over 100 Perfect Holiday Cottages

OK, we’re biased, but choosing Scotland for your next holiday makes perfect sense. The Staycation is growing in popularity and is set to become the holiday of choice in 2021.

Getting Away from it All

Self-catering is an obvious choice as we learn to live with Covid. It enables your party to control social distancing, and our owners are taking extra precautions to make your visit as safe as possible.

Not only that, but Wilderness Cottages properties are by their nature more “out of the way” than most. Choose your cottage wisely, and you may not see another soul throughout your break.

Keeping in Touch

So, a holiday cottage in Scotland will enable you to get away from it all, but you can still keep in touch if you need to. Some properties provide WiFi, and while the speeds and reliability probably won’t be what you’re used to at home, you should still be able to use email and catch up with the news.

Pay particular attention to each cottage description if WiFi is important to you, and give the office a call if you are unsure. We want you to have the best holiday, so we’ll do our utmost to advise which cottages are suitable for your needs.

Where to Go

All of our cottages offer great destinations for a staycation. But if you are looking for genuine seclusion, the Western Isles provides some fabulous self-catering properties on Harris, Lewis, and Uist.

If they don’t appeal, then a look on our map will guide you to some of the more remote holiday cottages we offer. Nearly all of our properties are chosen for their feel of the wilderness, so you are spoilt for choice.

Plenty to Do, or Just Relax

The scenery is by far the most awe-inspiring in the UK, so if you want to take a hike or tour in your car (or bike), and explore the great outdoors, you won’t be disappointed.

Roads can be narrow, and paths remote, but taking things slowly and drinking in the views makes for a relaxing experience. We’ve provided a few links below to help you plan your holiday.

If you’re fond of history, then there are plenty of ancient sites, castles, and museums to visit – Scotland is steeped in history.

You may want to take a boat trip on a Loch or out to sea to witness some of the incredible wildlife that Scotland is home to.

If you have a designated driver, you might like to take in some of the distilleries that are open to the public. Malt Whisky is a national treasure that every visitor should sample during their stay.

If all that sounds too exhausting, our comfortable holiday cottages are ideal places just to sit and relax. Wildlife is never far from the door, and depending on where you choose to stay, you may see all manner of fauna. Deer, birds of prey, pine martin, red squirrels – the list goes on! Guests often report sightings in the reviews they leave, so they are worth reading – find them on each cottage page.

When to Go

Scotland is a year-round destination, but you’ll find more places open in the Summer months. Local businesses will likely be relying on UK trade for the foreseeable future so your patronage will be gratefully received.

Shoulder seasons often provide good weather, and you’ll have more choice. Spring and Autumn are our favourite times of the year.

The offseason in the winter months can show the highlands at their most spectacular, and access isn’t usually a problem. Some properties highlight when access can be bothersome, or if a 4×4 is an advantage – check their descriptions, or phone us for advice.

With fewer people willing to travel abroad, Summer 2021 is filling up fast. We recommend booking as soon as possible so that you can secure your ideal holiday cottage.
