The Fisherman’s Hut is an amazing little property, not quite a Wilderness Cottage but an ideal choice for a single traveller or a couple. Situated only nine miles north of Tarbert, the property enjoys awe-inspiring views of the Harris Mountains and over Loch Maaruig. Short breaks of four nights are available all year round, making this property extremely popular if you are planning plan to island-hop in the Western isles.
This unique accommodation is compact but well-appointed and has everything that you will need for a short break. The main living area is open plan with the bedroom/dining and kitchen area being one, with a separate shower room at one end. Outside the garden with its views of the loch has garden furniture and is an ideal place to sit and relax and observe the varied wildlife that the area offers.
Tarbert offers a range of facilities including a good choice of restaurants, supermarket, petrol station and a varied selection of shops and the Harris Gin Factory, which is well worth a visit. Further afield visit the galleries exhibiting and selling the local Hebridean art and jewellery. Many of the beautiful white sandy beaches are just a short drive away with plenty of lovely cafes to stop for lunch or coffee. Whatever you want to experience of modern-day life or the history, crofting and seafaring traditions of the island, it is all accessible from The Fisherman’s Lodge
From the property, you can also enjoy the outdoors whether kayaking, cycling or walking, with the Hebridean Way on the doorstep. For climbers, the North Harris hills are quite accessible and are wild and unspoilt. The Clisham at 799m is the highest point in the Outer Hebrides with spectacular views from its summit to Lewis in the North, South Harris and on a clear day St Kilda in the West. You can take a private tour around the island or further afield and there is a regular bus service around the islands from Tarbert. You can also sail to St Kilda from here and all in all, you will certainly have an insight into Hebridean life on these ‘islands on the edge’.
