Nestled in the protected valley of the Whiteadder Water only 250m from the river with its salmon and trout fishing lies 'Thyme' a high quality, traditionally styled luxurious shepherds hut. This is a largely undiscovered part of Berwickshire yet the beautiful Borders towns of Kelso, Melrose and Peebles are less than an hour’s drive away while the centre of Edinburgh is but a little over an hour distant by car.
The hut is beautifully appointed. With the owners aim to ensure that their guests want for nothing and so we supply a number of extra touches to make their stay more enjoyable. The hut themselves is lined with wood panelling and has oak shelving and worktops as well as oak flooring and linen blinds. There is a fully plumbed bathroom with a toilet, shower and hand basin and the fully equipped kitchen area includes a Belfast sink, electric hob and slow cooker as well as a toaster and kettle. A log burner in the corner (with complimentary logs), as well as an extremely efficient fan heater, guarantee that you will always be warm. There is an extremely comfortable double bed made up with natural/linen bed covers and duvets which pulls down from the end wall. This can be stored during the day to enable access to the fitted seating dressed with cushions and rugs - all set around a table which can seat up to four people. The oak steps from the double doors lead down to an outside seating area complete with a charcoal BBQ and fire bowl (for which charcoal and logs are included ) and views towards the river.
Thyme is one of two Shepherds huts available at this location. The other one is called ‘Heather’ and is also available to rent on a weekly basis. Both huts are located apart and have their own private and separate outdoor areas. With two huts available this would make them ideal for friends and couples, that want to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Lammermuir Hills.
The area is brimming with activities: riding, fishing, shooting, golf, bird watching (not least our local barn owl), cycling, dinghy sailing and paddle boarding to name but a few. Nearby is a wonderful bakery and café, supplying fabulous sourdough bread, pastries and cakes. The coast is also close at hand, with North Berwick, Cove, Coldingham and Eyemouth all within easy reach. There are beautiful stately homes and castles to visit and the many attractions of the Capital make for an easy day trip over the beautiful Lammermuir Hills. Guests can while away the evenings after supper playing the traditional family games provided, enjoying a dram or watching the breathtaking night sky through the stargazer skylight.
Breakfast provisions can be made available as can a welcoming supper at the house or a slow cooked hotpot left ready in the hut on the night of arrival. Picnics, packed lunches and afternoon teas are all available by prior arrangement. Permits to fish the Whiteadder during the season (15th March – 6th October) can also be arranged.
