Rogart is a traditional Highland village that offers a peaceful haven to retreat to, with the convenience of nearby facilities. The village which is located two miles away is serviced by the local Spar shop, where you can pick up essentials, and at the Pittentrail Inn, Rogart’s pub and restaurant, tuck into traditional Scottish fare - or simply have a tipple.
In this area you can immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the hills and glens of the Highlands. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take part in, including hiking, fishing, shooting and mountain biking. In addition, this area of immense natural beauty is home to many awe-inspiring locations, such as the Falls of Shin, where you can watch the salmon leaping.
Several larger settlements along the coast offer services and activities. Golspie, the nearest town, is a 15-minute drive away. Here you can pretend you’re back in time at Dunrobin Castle. Between May and October, you can tour the castle and visit its museum. Whilst you’re there, wander around the beautiful gardens and witness one of their incredible falconry displays. A few miles north of Golspie is the village of Brora, well worth a trip to sample some of Capaldi’s delicious handmade ice cream.
A 20-minute drive south is Dornoch, where you can take a meander through the streets to visit the shops, museum and cathedral. Dornoch is famous for its golf course that has been in operation for nearly 150 years! If golf is not your kind of thing, why not relax on the golden sands of Dornoch beach? A few miles south is the town of Tain, which has a good range of facilities including supermarkets. Just outside the town is the Glenmorangie Distillery, where you can take a fascinating tour and stock up on Scotland’s ‘water of life’.
