Hawthorn Cottage is a lovely property located in the small crofting township of Idrigill on the outskirts of Uig. Sitting in an elevated position the house enjoys views over Uig Bay and towards Earlish. The house is accessed via a number of steps which lead through the mature garden to the house at the top. Idrigill is approximately 15 miles from Portree, the main town on the island.
Beautifully presented the house has a traditional layout with the main living areas on the ground floor and the two bedrooms on the upper level. The majority of rooms all have sea views. The sitting room has comfortable seating and a wood burner. The kitchen has all the usual appliances and has an adjacent utility room which has a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The spacious dining room has a table and seating for six. Completing the facilities on this level is the shower room with a large walk in shower.
Both bedrooms have double beds and enjoy panoramic views to the sea. Outside the mature garden is set on a slope and offers a number of areas where you can sit and relax.
Uig offers a selection of small shops, petrol station, local pub, cafe and the ferry terminal to the Outer Hebrides. For a wider selection Portree (16 miles) offers a good range of facilities including a supermarket and various attractions including boat trips. Being the cultural hub for the island, one of the main attractions in Portree is the award-winning Aros Centre, which runs regular theatre, concerts and film screenings. The centre also provides an exhibition capturing the drama of Skye’s history, an extraordinary RSPB exhibit with live and recorded footage of rare sea eagles along with an audio-visual presentation giving a spectacular aerial view of Skye’s incredible landscapes.
The surrounding area offers some of the most dramatic scenery on the island, within driving distance the 200ft cliffs of the Kilt Rock, the Quiraing, Old Man of Storr and the spectacular Trotternish Ridge can be found, these are ideal areas for walkers and a photographers dream. The Skye Museum of Island Life is located in the vicinity and is well worth a visit to see the traditional thatched cottages and the way of life of a bygone age.
For the outdoor enthusiast the quiet country roads are ideal for the cyclist or walker, and just along the road from the property is Camus Mor beach with its small jetty which provides kayak or canoe access. Whitewave, Skye’s outdoor centre, is also located just a few miles away and offers various activities for families and individuals.
