Loch Ness is over 20 miles long and a mile wide. It is the largest body of water by volume in Scotland and in places is 700 feet deep. It offers many natural and historic attractions to be enjoyed by all who visit; it is also the home to the mythical Loch Ness monster or ‘Nessie’ to her friends.

On the north side of Loch Ness you will find visitor attractions such as Urquhart Castle and the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition, both attractions being close to the village of Drumnadochit which provides the gateway the wonderful seclusion of Glen Affric. Various boat trips around the loch are also available for those who wish to witness the majesty of Loch Ness from a different perspective.

The south side of Loch Ness is altogether quieter, with lanes that wind their way around the hills and glens and over passes. A haven for wildlife, walking through the forests and fields offers ample opportunity to spot animals and birds in their natural habitat. The Loch Ruthven RSBP reserve is easily accessed and from Spring to Autumn you may be lucky enough to see Divers, Grebe and Osprey.
