Wester Ross is a fantastic location for a holiday. The coastline is sublime, and the pretty coastal villages and sea lochs are a feast for the eyes. There’s plenty to keep visitors entertained, and returning to your cosy cottage in the evening, maybe to settle down in front of a fire with a glass of wine, finishes off the long summer days nicely.
The region isn’t too difficult to get to, reached in about 90 minutes from Inverness, and the effort is well worth it. There are lochs, glens, and mountains to explore, most of them delightfully wild, as well as recent and ancient history to discover.
Marine life is in abundance on the coast and many local operators run boat trips. If you are lucky you may spot whales, dolphins, seals, and otters. Fishing charters are also possible and for the more adventurous kayaking, canoeing, pony trekking and of course walking is available locally. If you hope to sea white tailed or golden eagles, the west coast of Scotland offers the best opportunities to do so in the UK.
