Callakille Self Catering

Callakille
Northern Highlands, Wester Ross & Easter Ross

Callakille , Applecross peninsula - Wester Ross

Callakille self catering cottage, by Applecross, Wester Ross, Log fire, sleeps 4

Callakille is a traditional white washed croft perched on the edge of the beach, 8 miles North of Applecross village on the beautiful Applecross peninsula. The croft is reached by a rough track, with limited mobile reception and its own private water supply. The interiors are a fabulous mix of vintage finds and modern pieces.  It is a wonderful escape for the spirited and adventurous.  This is a particularly scenic stretch of the West Coast of Scotland, recently made famous through "Monty Halls Great Escape" TV programme and renowned for its wonderful marine life and for having the highest road pass in the UK, the Bealach na Ba.

It has spectacular views from the kitchen and lounge over the Inner Sound of Raasay to Rona, Raasay and the Cuillin mountains on Skye. On a clear day the hills of Harris and the Outer Hebrides are visible. Its unrivalled position makes it a peaceful haven where you can relax, unwind and perhaps sample some of the coastal and mountain walks and great sea and trout fishing. There are beautiful sandy beaches a mile away at Sand and also at nearby Cuiag." The croft is perfect for enjoying magnificent west coast sunsets or on a clear night, stargazing.

The village of Applecross 8 miles away has two restaurants worth a visit, The Potting Shed and The Applecross Inn both serving locally caught fish. Also at Applecross village is a local shop for the necessities with a Post Office and petrol pump and for coffee and cake there's the Flower Tunnel at the campsite. The larger village of Lochcarron is 28 miles and Inverness is 80 miles away.

The Gaelic name for the area of Applecross is 'a Chomraich' which means 'The Sanctuary'. You will understand, immediately when you arrive, why it was given this name, as it is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful and remote wilderness areas on the west coast of Scotland, lying between the Scottish mainland mountain masses and the Isle of Skye.
