Why Go Self Catering in a Scottish Holiday Cottage?

Self-catering accommodation offers the flexibility that no other holiday can.

Here are a few of the unique advantages of a self-catering holiday.

Relax

Feel more relaxed, there are no time constraints, and you are free to come and go as you please.

Affordable

Self-catering is very affordable, and we have holiday properties to suit all budgets.

Couples and smaller families may choose cosy, affordable accommodation or a larger property if they prefer more space. All our properties offer exceptional value for money.

If you have a large party, we doubt there's a more cost-effective way of holidaying together.

Eat-in, Eat-out

You can eat what you like, where you like when you like. You can choose to cook local produce, get takeaways or eat out and sample the local fare at a price and time that suits you.

Privacy & Seclusion

Many people choose to stay with us because they wish to escape from the general hubbub of everyday life. So while many properties offer WiFi, you don't have to connect, and finding a mobile signal can be challenging, especially at some remote properties. If these things are important to you, it's wise to plan accordingly.

If you have children or pets, you can keep to your routine and use all the space the property offers without the fear of disturbing other people.

For those used to living in towns and cities, it can be a novelty to discover your nearest neighbour is sometimes miles away.

The Countryside - Scotlands Biggest Asset

Kids love the freedom that a holiday cottage offers. There might be opportunities to play in a garden, explore some ruins, a loch shore or forest, or cycle on traffic-free trails.

Dogs love sniffing around Scotland's wide-open spaces, forests and glens and relaxing by the fire or stove in the evening.

With or without kids or pets, there's plenty on offer, including leisurely strolls, gardens, castles and historical sites to visit, or perhaps a tour of the fantastic countryside or taking a boat trip on lochs.

Hillwalking in Scotland is a popular pastime, and many of our cottages provide unrivalled access to the Scottish hills and mountains. If you want to bag a few Munros - self-catering is ideal for you!

Variety of Choice

You can choose accommodation located close to amenities or detached and remote; either way, you have the opportunity to live like a local.

Wilderness Cottages have a variety of Scottish self-catering properties that offer something unusual. Choose from an apartment in a Benedictine Abbey, a log house, a traditional croft house or cottage, a quirky luxury home, or a converted barn.

Some of our holiday homes are truly remote, while others offer the feeling of remoteness while being close to shops and attractions. If you can't decide what type of property to choose, please call us; we'll be happy to discuss the options with you as we have first-hand knowledge of all our properties and areas.

All Year Availability

Our self-catering cottages provide excellent year-round holiday accommodation; many have log fires for an instant romantic atmosphere as well as stunning views of mountains, forests, and lochs.

Visit in winter for solitude and the best chance to see and play in the snow. The summer is the most popular time to visit, and all attractions are open (covid and weather permitting!). Spring and autumn months are true gems and highly recommended if you dislike crowds in hotspots or are looking for adventure in the hills and mountains.

Why wait?

Above all, a self-catering holiday from Wilderness Cottages gives you the freedom to do what you like, when you want, in a fantastic location with a level of comfort to suit you!

We're sure that you will fall in love with Scotland and will want to return time and again, as many of our customers do, year after year. So we look forward to welcoming you to the Wilderness family.
