This charming traditional country holiday cottage is located deep in Glen Garry, in the Highlands of Scotland between Fort William and Inverness, two of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland. Poulary cottage enjoys a wonderful position overlooking Loch Poulary and lovely mountain views it is is on the road to the distant hamlet of Kinloch Hourn and the end of the road. If you are looking for peace and quiet away from it all, with beautiful views across wild country to a mountain loch then Poulary is for you.
Poulary cottage sits in its own 13 acres of land bounded by a burn to the side, River Garry to the south and the road leading to the woodland trail below the cottage to the west. The woodland trail takes you down to the River Garry, where many an hour may be spent exploring. For anglers fishing permits are available for the river and a local gillhie can be arranged. With a choice of hills around the cottage, including some Munro’s, there is a hill suitable, whatever your ability. The views from any summit are incomparable to those lower down and exploration here is well worth every step.
The cottage is ideal for birdwatching – with the bird table in the garden attracting a variety of birds including - Siskins, Chaffinches, Coal Tits and a Greater Spotted Woodpecker and from the garden a White Tailed Eagle (Fish Eagle) and an Osprey have been spotted. During the Autumn when the rut starts you may well see deer very close to the cottage and a trip up the Glen towards Kinloch Hourn, should produce some very good photo opportunities of the Red deer and the wonderful views. Being 12 miles from the nearest shop, it is as well to bring all your provisions with you.

This is the fourth time I have stayed at Poulary and it is a wonderful cottage. Superb views, great location and the chance to watch the pine martens at dusk. It is well-equipped and so peaceful
We had a wonderful week at Poulary Cottage. The cottage was immaculate throughout and the kitchen had everything you would need. Audrey the caretaker greeted us at the cottage was was really helpful and friendly. The garden was the real draw for us. We saw a variety of birds, and (what we think) was a Sea Eagle, and the Pine Martens were wonderful to watch. They came every evening and always put on a show for us! We are also lucky enough to meet a deer in the driveway one evening! The cottage is situated about 7 miles along a narrow country lane and takes about 15-20 minutes to reach from the A87. The lane goes further for another 40-45 minutes to the Lochhournhead B&B and Tea Room. It's a brilliant drive, but a little hairy towards the end as you reach the tea room! You can also do a lovely walk from the cottage down to the bridge which crosses the River Garry. You can then walk along the forestry trails for as far as you like. The views are spectacular. The Invergarry Hotel restaurant is lovely and very friendly. Comes well recommended! One thing to be aware of is the nearest large supermarket and shops is in Fort William which is about an hour's drive and we recommend to bring everything you need before arriving at the cottage! There is a small petrol station in Invergarry. Our week was amazing and we are considering returning again, which is something we don't often do.
This was our 4th time at Poulary and once again we had a lovely time. The cottage was immaculate on arrival and has everything you need for your stay. We will be back.
Lovely retreat with loads of space for the dogs. Loved the wee bit of wild in the garden with regular finches, siskins and a few others including great spotted woodpecker and a couple of rock dove. Pine Martins were amazing to watch and I took a few 35mm slr shots on my old Cannon A1. looking forward to some old fashioned development! Cottage was immaculate on our arrival thanks to Audrey who, incidentally was chewing through some long grass with the mower when we arrived. Perfect place for 30th wedding anniversary for us. With dogs-no kids!! Visit and enjoy.
Poulary Cottage was a great base for the week, it was cosy and spotlessly clean with perhaps the best view we have had from a holiday cottage. The kitchen had a great selection of utensils etc too. The wild neighbours were a major highlight: deer regularly visited the garden as did a host of small birds and our trail camera saw no fewer than 3 pine martens visit at once! We hope to return. The key safe is really stiff, you need to pull really hard to open it, but it does open: we at first thought it wasn't going to. We were glad we brought our own kitchen roll, as there wasn't any and there was only one toilet roll for the week. There were plenty dishwasher tablets etc though.
We had an amazing week at this beautiful, secluded property. Poulary is well equipped and maintained to a high standard by the owner and Audrey the wonderful cleaner/caretaker. The variety of wildlife on the doorstep is amazing, take lots of bird food to replenish the feeders daily. Deer and Pine martins visited each evening. There are walks from the door and many more further down the Glen. The property is remote (that's why we chose it ). Take supplies with you, unless you want to travel, the nearest shops are quite a distance away. A brilliant week and we hope to visit again next year.
Lovely cottage and spectacular scenery. Pine Martins, golden eagles, ospreys, deer all within a stones throw from the house. Fantastic fishing on the River Garry. Local people very friendly, great food in the invergarry hotel. Couldn't ask for more!
The most stunning cottage and area that we have ever stayed.
A well equipped, warm and comfortable cottage in a superb location. Great for the dogs as we were able to walk direct from Poulary across the bridge and onto the numerous forestry track. A place we would return to at some stage in the future - a photographer and hill walkers dream location. Thank you
Just what we needed peace and relaxation, reading books by the log burner, watching all the birds in the garden from the dining table, stags and hinds down the valley and to top it all the Pine Martin is still visiting and we got some footage. Love being able to walk down in to the Woodland to the river straight from the cottage. It was all as we remembered, thank you for letting us stay in such a lovely cottage. We hope to return one day.
Another fantastic holiday in this lovely cottage. This is our 3rd time here and won't be our last. The cottage was immaculate on arrival with everything you need for your stay. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Top class entertainment is provided by the variety of wildlife through the kitchen window and the view down the glen is spectacular. Another perfect holiday and we highly recommend Wilderness Cottages for your Scottish holiday.
My booking experience with Wilderness Cottages was great! Especially with the kind assistance of Jane helping my booking online. I truly enjoyed my re-visit to the Scottish Highlands, and Mr & Mrs Lothian's Poulary cottage was fantastic. Thank you again. Warmest regards, Ronny
Superb week in Poulary Cottage, warm and comfortable and the location is exceptional. Pine Marten visited each evening and the birds were a joy to watch. As good as it was, having paid top money for a two bedroom cottage, there are a numer of issues that need attention which are above and beyond the remit of Audrey who did an excellent job of making sure the property was clean and ready for our visit. Some roof tiles have become dislodged and are in danger of falling from the roof. Two decking boards drop when walked on due to the support timber being rotten. The bath panel is broken at the shower end of the bath. The hand basin taps are loose. The TV is wedged into a corner unit and lodged on a piece of timber giving partial obstruction when viewing the screen. TV instructions direct you to use Sky controller but there is no Sky box or controller. The sofa in the lounge smelt fairly strongly of dogs. Some general TLC wouldn't go amiss. I mention these issues because if the owners wish to continue letting this property it would be good if they were addressed for the benefit of future clients.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and feedback on Poulary Cottage. Firstly we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Poulary We have contacted the owner and made him aware of the issues raised. He is disappointed to receive such feedback as he visited the property 3 weeks ago was not aware of the issues raised. He will have these attended to as soon as possible. Apologies for TV comments being confusing, there is no Sky Box/Controllers in the cottage as this has been replaced with a Smart Freesat TV. This new TV gives a far greater range of viewing options, he will update these instructions to reflect this. Pets do cause problems at times and there are instructions in place to request that pets are not allowed on furniture or in bedrooms however guests do not always follow these. The cleaner is aware of this and does open windows/doors for airing during the changeover of the house and pays particular attention to removing dog hair from carpets etc. He will discuss this with her and see what additional steps he can take to remove odour from pets.
A superb cottage in a wonderful location. Everything about it is perfect in every way, the area, the wildlife and the tranquillity. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking down the wonderful glen. Many lovely walks from the cottage and in the area. The cottage was comfortable, scrupulously clean and couldn't be faulted in any way. We look forward to a return visit. Thank you very much.
Our 24th visit to Poulary! We've been coming here every year since 2008. The cottage is perfect, home from home! You can't beat the ever changing view from the dining room, it's stunning. The bird table is very busy from morn till night. Regular visits at night from the pine martens and occasionally in the daytime too! Also foxes, badgers and weasel seen in the garden. Osprey and buzzards overhead and deer in the grounds of the cottage. Perfect, its a stunning place to visit any season of the year whatever the weather. There are lots of walks close to the cottage and the cottage is central in the highlands to visit lots of places. Wilderness cottages is a brilliant company to deal with, always excellent communication, thank you Brian. Thanks to Ian and Lyndie for sharing your cottage, we love it and will be back again soon.
Once again another fabulous holiday with Wilderness Cottages. We couldn't have wished for better, the cottage was stunning and we will return again next year. Highly recommended to use this company for your next Scottish holiday
Most things were excellent about Poulary cottage but, although not vital, the tv system was a little slow and dated and let the experience down. The double bed was a little uncomfortable as the 'upper mattress' had a tendency to move. Fantastic views down the glen, it provided a great base for approaching the hills and we hope to return.
Our 23rd stay at Poulary Cottage. We've being coming here since 2008, we fell in love with it the first time we came. The cottage has everything you need, always spotlessly clean. The views from the dining room table are stunning, you can either just sit and relax looking at the mountains, watching the deer, buzzards overhead or the very busy bird table. Pine martens are regular visitors at night to the bird table and also badgers. The cottage is central in the Highlands for visiting many places or you can just stay in the Glen, there are lots of walks or mountains to climb without leaving the Glen . A delightful full cottage, home from home. We'll be back soon! Love it.
Very relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. The views from the cottage are phenomenal and we enjoyed walks, runs and kayaking and fantastic wildlife spots. Audrey had the place spotless, warm and cosy for our arrival. We took a tip from another review and took an inexpensive battery motion sensor light with us which worked well to illuminate pine marten visits without disturbing them - there are outside lights at the property entrances for coming and going, but none that shine on the bird table and decking. Really well equipped cottage and between the excellent heating and stove we were warm and cosy despite some very cold weather including snow. Full size freezer was great allowing us to take most of our food for the week and shower over bath is a decent electric model not just attached to the taps. Really nice decor with some lovely vintage furniture that added to the homely feel. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
A beautiful cottage in one of my favourite bits of the highlands. Great walks straight from the house, fishing if you want it, loads of birds (Golden Eagle over the house) and a warm comfortable place to stay.
The easiest and comfortable holiday one can take. Wilderness Cottages has provided nothing short of fantastic customer service, imparting important information and answering questions promptly. The cottage in Invergarry was in amazing condition and the views from the kitchen window will be cherised for a lifetime! The Everhot cooker is incredible and we had one of the best roasted chicken dinners. Audrey (the housekeeper) is an absolute treasure. She was polite, efficient and very helpful (on more than one instance). Couldn't recommend it more.
Lovely cottage in a great location. Ideal for a peaceful and relaxing break. Walks from the door and ideally suited for a trip into 'the rough bounds' for the more experienced walkers. As always Audrey made sure the cottage was spotless. Highly recommended!
A wonderful place to stay, we took our 2 dogs and the secure garden with the woodland walks was such a bonus, I would definitely recommend it if you have dogs
We had a wonderful holiday at Poulary. The cottage was pefect, spotlessly clean and in a beautiful location. We were entertained every day by the abundance of wild life and left relaxed and happy after a lovely holiday and we hope to return next year.
Just what we wanted. A perfect get away from it all cottage with the huge bonus of wonderful wildlife. We had an amazing week and really did not want to leave.
A nice comfortable, well equipped cottage in a tranquil location. We enjoyed the cottage and cooking using the Everhot range. Lots of walks within 30 minutes drive. Plenty of wildlife straight from the windows (deers, pine martens, woodpeckers and many other birds) and a brilliant changing view of the loch and mountains from the dining room window. There is no light around the bird table to see nocturnal visits from the wildlife, but luckily we took a battery powered, motion detection security light which allowed us to watch the pine martens after dark. As there are no shops nearby we prebooked an ASDA delivery for the Monday (4.00 charge for a 2 hour slot) which was delivered on time and with no issues. The road outside the cottage to Kinloch Hourn is a fantastic drive and great for wildlife spotting. It gets a bit narrow for the last half mile, but the views and peace at the loch are well worth the drive. A brilliant holiday in a great part of Scotland.
We stay for the 3rd time 1 week in Poulary. We had a wonderful time. The cottage was clean and well equipped. The view was spectacular but we think the that the bushes must be cut quickly to keep the view.
Lovely location. If you are someone who relies on internet, it is very intermittent, but then this is the place to get away from it all.
Lovely cottage set in an idilic and peaceful location.Everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable. If returning to the cottage late at night be prepared to meet some of the local deer on the single track road.Certainly was a pleasure to encounter these beautiful animals most nights. The bird feeder outside in the garden has many visitors throughout the day.If you have children then they will love the games room at the bottom of the private driveway.
Another lovely holiday in this beautiful cottage. Spotlessly clean with such beautiful views. This time we had the privilege of close up encounters with the pine martens, a fox and a badger. Sadly we won't be back next year as planned, but hope to return one day.
What a view!!! The cottage is clean, warm and homely. The views from the windows, decking are stunning. The wildlife that can be seen from the cottage, and that visit the cottage are amazing. The large garden is great for the dogs to explore, and fully enclosed. Thank you
Our third stay at this cottage, never disappoints, it is like home from home. Excellent facilities and the property is clean and well presented, will be back again. Managed to see Doc Marten (pine Marten) for the first time, hungry chap!!!! Lovely area for walks and cycling, not far to Fort Augustus either.
Wonderful stay in this uniquely placed remote cottage where one can get so close to nature, and take in the fabulous vistas. Saw red deer, eagles, numerous other birds but our favourite is the pine marten who visits the bird table every night. Put out fat balls and scone drizzled with honey. He cleared the lot! We will return. In fact have already booked for next year. Highly recommended.
A clean and comfortable cottage in the most stunning setting. We loved the starry nights, the sound of the stags roaring, the hinds grazing in the field next door, the nightly pine marten visits, the drive to Kinloch Hourn. The weather wasn't great, but the utter beauty of your surroundings more than made up for it. We loved it so much we have already booked for next year!
First time staying at Poulary and we weren't disappointed. The views from the decking and kitchen window are breathtaking. We saw an abundance of wildlife (red stag, golden eagle and pine marten to name a few). The drive to the end of the road was fantastic. I highly recommend this beautiful cottage and it's stunning surroundings. Our dogs loved the garden and all the walks from the doorstep. Hope to return one day.
Our 15th visit to Poulary Cottage, The first time we have stayed during the May Bank Holiday and we were not disappointed! The weather was HOT! (mid 20's) a little snow remained on the mountain tops even with the hot weather and no rain all week. Very few midges. Its lovely to be able to visit the cottage in different seasons the landscape surrounding the cottage is always breathtaking and we never tire of the ever changing views from the dining room window or watching the wildlife. We were lucky to be able to film the Pine marten in daylight, a delight as always to watch. We love this place for its central location, with so many places to visit whether it be historical sites, beaches, Munros to bag or just ambling through a forest or alongside a loch or river. Or even just spending time relaxing at the wonderful cosy well equipped cottage. We will be back in the summer, the perfect place to holiday in the Highlands. Stunning views, the wildlife, peace and tranquility, Love it!
Poulary Cottage is stunning. Very warm and welcoming on arrival. Clean and tidy. With everything you need for a quiet and stress free holiday. With views from the kitchen/master bedroom to keep you looking all day. I love the little wildlife log for people to add to. As we've seen a few first's for ourselves including: PineMarten, Golden Eagle and Osprey. Will be returning here Thank you
Wonderful place to stay. Everything you need.. It was a snowy dream and an experience we wont ever forget. Practically perfect for those wanting to get away from it.
We had an amazing stay at Poulary Cottage, this is our 3rd visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The property is well laid out, beautifully maintained and very comfortable - especially with the new sofa and fireplace in the living room. The area around is spectacular with a variety of walks right on the doorstep. There are also Hairy Coos about 2 miles down the road, they are very friendly and make for some great photos!
Our 10th year at Poulary (13th Visit) and 2nd visit this year! We love this gem of a cottage, everything you could wish for a lovely relaxing holiday. The views from the dining room are spectacular, you can watch the ever changing landscape as the mist and sun rise and fall on the mountains. The wildlife that can be seen in the garden and the Glen is awesome, the majestic stags, buzzards, eagles, we spotted deer in the garden every day this visit. The pine marten visited most nights and sometimes at dawn.We never tire of watching the birds on the bird table. Poulary is located centrally in the Highlands and so great for exploring and sightseeing. A truly secluded cottage with breathtaking scenery, we're not even bothered by midges now i've discovered Smidge! Back in a few weeks to see Poulary and the Glen in its Autumn Glory,Stags rutting and home from home comforts in such a cosy cottage, cant wait!
The cottage was fantastic and lived up to expectations.
We found Poulary Cottage absolutely perfect. it was lovely inside and out, the cottage was clean and and secure so the you could let the dogs out without and concerns. The were plenty of walks within the estate which allowed us to run the dogs off lead. We will defiantly be going back, I would mention that the single track road has some issues like rocks protruding from the side of the road which will burst your tyres. Drive carefully.
This was our second visit to this lovely cottage and we weren't disappointed, still as beautiful as last year. We stayed for 2 weeks and we had amazing changeable weather sun, rain and snow. It was amazing to see in April. We did lots and lots of walking/hiking covered quite a few miles to see out of the world sites. We saw the Pine marten on the first night and loads of deer and some wonderful stags. We thought we wouldn't see the lovely pine marten again, but as we were leaving early on the last day, we saw him again. So thanks again for a brilliant holiday. Hope we can return one day soon.
A truly outstanding location with stunning scenery and views. The cottage has everything you need and plan ahead for meals before you come and do a shop or noticed Asda deliveries passing, you should then only need to stock up for basics, garage in Fort Augustus is well stocked. The walks for dogs around this area are brilliant and Murphy had a ball exploring everywhere although I did get blisters but well worth it. The weather has been exceptional sun from dawn till dusk every day (coming from East Scotland, maybe it's true, always sunny in the West!!) The walk to Loch Loyne was well worth it (bear left at red phone box if coming from cottage) and Murphy even swan which is a change from his jumping in the water. Bring bird food as the bird table is mesmerising.
Poulary Cottage is extremely well equipped and in a lovely location. It's very warm and cosy and the double bed is one of the most comfortable we've slept in. It really is away from it all and it's quite a drive back up the valley if you want to get out and about sightseeing. One piece of advice I wish we'd had is that the nearest decent shop is in Fort Augustus at the filling station and there's a butcher there too. Take bird food if you want to see a busy bird table and the Pine Marten only came during the night when we were there but we had a camera trap so got footage on that? The Stanley range cooker takes a bit of getting used to.
Poulary is a wonderfully equipped, incredibly cosy and a very private, peaceful and secluded place to stay. The wildlife is rife and the scenery is breath-taking. The midges however ruined our week :(
This cottage is lovely simply one of the best we have stayed in, very well equipped with everything you need. The fridge and freezer is big enough for you weekly shopping, which you will need due to the distance of the shops, but it's not a problem. This is because the views and surrounding certainly make up for it. We saw on two occassions three red deers in the garden, regular visit from a woodpecker and loads of birds. We also saw golden eagles. We did go out a few days and went walking, in the amazing surroundings. We will be back next year but for 2 weeks next time. Thank you so much for a brilliant holiday.
Outstanding cottage. Could find no faults at all. So peaceful that you can hear the silence. Excellent location for climbing the Munro's within that area. Would highly recommend.
We first stayed at Poulary in October 2008, this is our 10th visit to this wonderful cottage. We come back every year sometimes twice if we are lucky! We cannot fault the comfortable cottage, its like home from home :) We love the log burner and love cooking on the Stanley. The view from the dining room window is stunning! it changes constantly, we enjoy watching the mist rise and fall on the mountains, the snow on top of the mountains and how the sun lights up the mountains casting shadows so the view constantly changes. The wildlife is amazing, from watching the pine-marten at dawn and dusk, the Deer in the garden and the very busy bird table. You don't even have to leave the cottage as there are plenty of walks around the cottage and into the forest across the river at the bottom of the garden. The drive along the road to Kinloch Hourn is breathtaking, rugged landscapes, mountains, lochs, deer and highland cattle. We love this place and cant wait to be back in the summer. Heaven on earth, a Gem in the Highlands. LOVE IT!
We had a lovely week here in this perfect cosy cottage, everything we needed to hand in the most idyllic surroundings
We had an excellent stay at Poulary Cottage. The cottage itself is well built, comfortable and is well equipped with everything you need for a stay - the owners really have thought of everything! It is worth bringing as much as you can as the nearest shop is 15 miles away (23 miles to a better stocked one) however, we ended up going for drives out on a few of the days and picked up any extras we needed on the way back. Tons of interesting wildlife regularly visits the garden (although we didn't get to see the pinemarten, we will be bringing fat balls next time!) and there are always lots of red deer in and around the house and the gardens. The dog loved the secure garden and the forest that makes up part of the property's land, in fact the whole area is perfect for well-behaved dogs. There are loads of walks right on the doorstep, from gentle low level walks to several munroes and the scenery all around is simply spectacular. We took the drive to Kinloch Hourn and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone, though not the faint hearted and that applies to driver and passenger! It is 15 miles down the single track road and the last couple of miles are a bit challenging but it is well worth it. No need for a 4x4 but a strong engine is a must and take your time. The day after we got home, we booked to go back the same time next year. If you are looking for a get away from it all type holiday in a beautiful setting, you cannot go far wrong with this place.
Had a great week at Poulary Cottage in Glen Garry. A comfortable cottage in a fantastic setting. I enjoyed using the Stanley Range! Lots of wildlife to enjoy both around the cottage and in the Glen.
Had a wonderful week in the cottage. Its spotlessly clean & comfortable. Views spectacular. Bird table had lots of visitors and fat balls were "stolen" each night we suppose by the pine martens. We did some low level walks and hubby did 3 munro's. Also biked the "road to nowhere", views awesome! Audrey was amazing and went out of her way to make our stay lovely. I even had a glass of bubbly at her cottage, what a lovely lady! Note:Be sure to buy some "Smidge the midge" as midge's are nasty!
Cottage is perfect (warm, clean and very comfortable), views are outstanding. Had the relaxing holiday that we were after. Pine Martin visited bird table twice during our weeks stay. Heard and watched the Red Deer stags roaring. Saw an otter and a fox when we visited Kinloch Hourn. Loved the fact we could not get a phone signal anywhere down the Glen, makes the holiday even more relaxing. Hope to be back soon.
8th visit to this gem. Extra special as it was our 40th wedding anniversary. I cannot fault Poulary, breathtaking views, abundance of wildlife {deer, pinemarten, badgers, osprey, fox} all regular visitors to the garden. The bird table always a hive of activity. Love the log burner and Stanley. Lovely cottage and enclosed garden. Ideal for walking, fishing or just relaxing. Central for visiting lots of places in highlands. Heaven on earth,so peaceful, LOVE it! back again next year, can't wait :)
our third visit with Wendy Stewart and(max the dog)to this lovely remote cottage, love how the kitchen diner has been done since we last came, we had lots of walks through the forest and along the single track road both ways, so much wildlife to see here, even got a photo this time of the pine martin on his evening visit outside the patio door. A great location if you just want to chill and get away from it all.
We had an excellent time here and can not wait to come back again. The cottage has everything you could possibly want to a very high standard. The views are breathtaking and the wildlife a delight. If you are thinking of visiting Scotland I can not recommend Poulary Cottage highly enough.
This was our second visit to Poulary Cottage and again we had two fabulous weeks, we loved the new kitchen layout and were very pleased that you had left the good old Stanley Range in place, we love the way it cooks. Audrey was there when we arrived and gave us a lovely friendly welcome. The cottage was spotless. We were visited by the Pine Martin, Badger and Woodpeckers on a daily basis and met many of the local deer. Our two German Shepherds had a fabulous time in the secure garden. Thank you
Lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage, Dougal dog had great fun although forestry operations limited access over the bridge. Thought the Stanley stove was excellent. Very likely to make a return visit.
It was our second time in Poulary, but now for 2 weeks. The cottage is very nice and well equipped. The views on the lake and surrounding are wonderfull. You can sit the whole day for the window in the kitchen to look outside. Every minute is different. We will certainly come back
20/09/13 By Vickie Skeete,Heather,Curtis,Michelle & Kobe. We all had a wonderful week at Cottage,it was fully equiped comfortable and cosy. Fantastic views over the loch, lovely open space for Kobe our GSD to run he loved it like we did. We could spend hours watching the birds and wildlife, saw the Pine Marten one evening right up at the patio doors. Great walking on your door step. Loved every minute of it. Will definately come back.
Aug 3rd -17th, another wonderful holiday at the cottage, love the new kitchen/diner. As well as resident pine marten, woodpeckers and busy bird table! we were visited by 2 young badgers nightly. We spent many hour on the verandah watching osprey hunting on the river. The scenery around cottage as always is breathtaking and we never tire of looking at it or walking in the Glen..Glen Roy and parallell roads was amazing, A visit to Kylerhea on skye otter watching. A perfect place,Paradise :)
27/10/12 Wendy, Stewart Bithell (Max the dog) We love this cottage its so cosy, love the log burner, cooking on the stanley, its ideal for visiting many places, October is beautiful time to visit, the autumnal colours are spectacular, scenery is breathtaking, with snow capped mountains, deer in the garden, watching the birds and enjoying nightly visits from the pine marten, we love just relaxing and soaking it all up :) we wouldnt go anywhere else! already booked for next year, plus the property now has wifi.
Our 5th year at Poulary, we love the cottage {especially the stanley and log burner!}the ever changing views from the dining room.It's an ideal location for exploring the highlands,or relaxing in the cosy cottage. There are many walks around the cottage without leaving the glen. We love watching the ever hungry birds at the birdtable and wait eagerly every night to see the resident pine marten,and catching a glimpse of deer in the garden.Ideal for dogs {secure} Back in October, cant wait :}
My husband and I enjoyed the cottage as did our two dogs Niya and Lexi we had a fabulous time at the cottage and enjoyed the views. The only thing that let the cottage down was the lack of broadband as neither myself or my husband got a phone signal at the cottage. Lovely clean cottage would go back for a further stay.
This was our second holiday at Poulary. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable with everything you might need to enjoy your stay. The fenced garden, and indeed the extended woodland, is ideal for visitors with both children and dogs. Our two dogs were in their element. The location of the cottage makes it easy to visit other places such as Skye, the Great Glen and Glen Affric, to mention but a few. We very much enjoyed our stay at Poulary and would certainly recommend it to anyone.
What a wonderful two weeks we had at this lovely remote cosy cottage. The cottage is well equipped and the stanley range was a joy to cook on. This was a great location for the dogs, really secure and there are fantastic walks straight out of the garden accross the river into the pine forests and mountains. The views were spectacular and changed every day, we were also very lucky with the weather. Our two German Shepherds did not want to leave neither did we!! We will certainly be visiting again
Poulary Cottage is very comfortable and well-equipped, and in a stunning remote location. The photographs don't quite do it justice. We stayed for 2 weeks in Jan/Feb and were nice and cosy. There are plenty of walks from the cottage, through pine forests, along the river, and up into the hills - you can even reach a Munro from the cottage. Great for wildlife, too. We saw pine martens, deer, and owls in the grounds - and a nocturnal wild pig! We'll definitely be back!
We stay 1 week in the cottage from september 24th till october 1st 2011 and we had a wonderful time. The cottage lies very nice and is very well equipped. The views are magnificent. The weather was not very good, many rain, but we make many walks and see a lot. 1 week is too short and we will certain come back, but then longer. Our dog Njord loves the place very much.
Great cottage and location, everything that we wanted from our visit to this part of Scotland. Would recommend the cottage and area to anyone, especially those with dogs. The enclosed garden and woodland was very safe, both our dogs had a wonderful time. Plenty of walks in the local hills and woods, and fantastic views all around, especially the sunsets.
The cottage was really lovely, the decor, fixtures and fittings made it really homely. The whole setting was stunning and very remote which we really wanted. We had the most marvelous week. I would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to get away from it all. Thank you.
Our 3rd visit to Poulary.. a fantastic cottage set amongst spectacular scenery. The views from the dining room keep you enthralled for hours, watching the birds feeding, looking over loch and mountains and watching the eagles and osprey on their hunting expeditions on the loch. We had many walks around the cottage, in the forest along the road, by the river. We loved sitting out on the verandah taking in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife, Rating 100+ outstanding/perfect! we'll be back! :)
8/8/09 until 22/8/09 Our second visit to this fabulous cosy remote cottage set in the mountains and lochs. Never seen such a busy bird table with so many different birds including the woodpecker (fascinating)and in the evening two pine martins visit, they steal the fat balls and nuts from the birdtable and even look through the patio window. They love date and walnut cake or a scone with jam on it.In October last year we had the Deer right outside but not in August this time.A great place to relax and get away from it all. Lots of great walks through the forest and to Loch Loyne. We did the walk along the road to nowhere and we conquered the mountain in front of the cottage 535ft what an achievement at our age. The games room with its football game and dart board is ideal on a rainy day when you just want to chill out with a wee dram and the shortbread. Went to Oban, Applecross, Lossiemouth, Fort William and Inverness all within easy reach.
After a fab week in October we returned in August. We had another wonderful 2 weeks, cosy cottage spectacular scenery and lots of wonderful walks right on the doorstep. We visited many places during our stay, shin falls, Chia-aig falls, Dores beach, Fort Willliam, Inverness, Lossiemouth, Dornoch Firth (to watch the seals), Nairn, Fort Augustus, Beauly, Oban, Invermorriston and Applecross ( a hair-raising drive through The pass of the cattle, 2053 feet above sea level, not for the faint hearted or nervous driver -or passenger for that matter!) we also made our annual pilgramage to Moniac Castle for our wines and preserves.
The bird table was always a flurry of activity one day we counted 40 plus birds including a woodpecker. (they are very greedy indeed)
But not as greedy as the resident pine-martens!, we were lucky to be visited every night at dusk where they feasted on scones with marmalade or peanut butter!, they also stole the fat ball nightly from the bird table, one night they even stole all the peanuts, feeder as well (we found it 2 days later hidden in the bushes!) I was lucky enough to get video footage using nightshot on my video camera of their antics.
We also had some lovely walks around the cottage, in the forest, along the road and followed the old drovers road to skye (by Tomdoun Church) it now stops dead at Loch Loyne, we also spotted 5 stags on this walk. Our dog Max loves this cottage, the only downfall was the MIDGES!. A fab cottage, fantastic location
we had a wonderfull week at poulary cottage, wanted to get away from normal hectic life and this was the place to do it. the peacefull surrounding area was just what we needed, our only snag was the midges which were in abundance in july but that was o the only thing wrong with our holiday, the cottage was beautifully clean and modern with everything we needed, would definately return. thankyou for a wonderfull holiday.
Nothing but praise for Poulary Cottage. Had a wonderful week there in July. The cottage really is out in the wilderness, about 7 miles off the main road. Brilliant views out of the dining room window across the valley and my wife certainly enjoyed the bird table in the garden which attracted all sorts. Cottage is spacious and has all the amenities you need. The seperate games room is a nice touch and is nice to unwind in there after a day of exploring.
Good location as a base as well as you are well within distance of various sites of interest - Glengarry, Fort William, Ben Nevis, Inverness, Cairngorns, Skye and many more. We even made the trip up to John OGroats which took a good 4 hours! Can recommend the Invergarry Hotel for a good meal and a great atmosphere.
If youre looking for a nice quiet cottage with stunning views and scenery then this is the one for you.
I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay this
