Brendon has created a really special little escape in the Scottish Borders. It has been tastefully decorated, full of life, personality and character to explore inside. It is a short term let that has clearly been created by someone who understands what a guest needs when visiting such a remote location. Repeatedly over the stay, I was impressed at how we didn't want for anything, as it was all already there; whether that was blankets for the chilly evenings, a large torch for evening ventures outside, a cheese knife, board games and newspaper for the log burning stove.
Down a long farm track, the cottage is placed perfectly at the edge of working farm, on the border of a large pine forest; the front windows perfectly framing the mountainous hills of the Borders from inside. Inside the cottage is super cosy and warm, providing refuge from the harsher winds we had in early April. Its location provides a perfect base for walks into the hills and forests, and the quaint cottage garden offers up a more secluded space to enjoy the outdoors.
The collection of books, CDs and games provide a wealth of things to do whilst holed up by the fire and it is by far the best stocked kitchen of a short-term let, allowing us the option of cooking for ourselves or going out to eat. By far the log burner was a highlight of the stay, with a fair few hours each evening spent basking in the warmth, watching the flames licking over the ample logs that are provided.
More than anything Brendon was so lovely and easy to communicate and plan with. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will be sure to return!
Upper Stewarton is a gem of a hideaway cottage, clean ,comfortable and warm in a secluded setting, a garden to dream in and the interior very beautiful with a lot of attention to detail plus a superb selection of books you wished you had time to read, very different to the usual holiday cottage. Excellent communication with owner and agency.

A beautiful cosy and warm cottage with everything you need for a quiet and peaceful stay, wonderfully decorated with a lot of thought and effort gone into this. Fantastic location with lovely views, secluded but near enough to Peebles and other towns for a quick visit. And our Peugeot Expert Camper Van got up the track no problem at all. Great time all round, thank you.
Well, what the other reviews say is entirely true. This is a wonderfully decorated cottage in a unique and stunning location. Driving in the first time is astonishing. The owner is also very helpful and generous which is an additional delight. We loved it
In nearly 50 years of self-catering holidays we can honestly say that this is the nicest cottage, location and host we have experienced. It's within easy reach of Peebles yet remote enough to forget civilisation, surrounded by gorgeous scenery, has great walks from the door and is well equipped, clean and cosy. It's beautifully decorated, with interesting and unique features and comfortable furniture.
We consider ourselves lucky to have found this exceptional cottage and to have met Brendon who has created something very special here.
Will we return? Absolutely!!
We had a lovely stay at Upper Stewarton. The cottage was beautifully decorated and the surroundings were so peaceful. It was clean, well equipped and there was plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 children. The owner was responsive and provided clear instructions for check in. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future. We have a 4x4 type vehicle and would say it's necessary to access the location, perfect for an isolated escape. Despite it's peaceful location we were still within easy drives of visiting Peebles, Edinburgh, The Kelpies and Stirling.
