Upper Folds, Glen Rinnes, Dufftown

Sleeps 2 - Pet Welcome - Wood burner

Upper Folds is situated in open moorland just seven miles from Dufftown. Location wise the property really is a Wilderness Cottage, and access with a 4 x 4 type of vehicle being the only real choice. With walks directly from the door, Upper Folds is ideal for guests looking for a base for walking and just enjoying the great outdoors. The scenery in the locality is spectacular and the property enjoys views across to Ben Rinnes and the Corryhabbie Hill, the regions well known Corbetts.

The cottage utilises the latest green technology, with solar panels and a wind turbine providing the energy needs. Throughout under floor heating ensures that the property is kept at an ambient temperature, and for those colder nights a wood burner is available. The accommodation is all on the one level and has been tastefully furnished throughout.

The main lounge and kitchen are open plan, in the lounge the striking fireplace with its exposed stonework is an attractive feature, as is the kitchen with its painted blue cabinets. Off this area the dining room enjoys views across towards Ben Rinnes and also offers direct access to the garden. A master bedroom and a fantastic wet room, completes the facilities. Outside the large garden is enclosed and under cover storage for outdoor gear and mountain bikes is available.

The small town of Dufftown is located just seven miles away, and offers a wide selection of attractions for the visitor, including a good range of cafes, restaurants, and shops. This area is in the heart of the whisky country, and the town prides itself as being the World’s Malt Whisky Capital, with five distilleries in the locality, it produces more whisky than any other town in Scotland. The largest and most famous of all is the Glenfiddich Distillery, which has a visitor centre, and is an ideal place to visit for any enthusiast.

The surrounding areas are ideal for outdoor activities, for walkers the Speyside Way and the Glenlivet Estate are available, and for the golfer, courses can be found at Dufftown and Ballindalloch. For fishing why not try the Glen of Rothes Trout and Course Fishery, or perhaps even a day on the River Spey. Further afield travel to the small picturesque villages of the Morayshire coastline, and perhaps a bit of dolphin spotting at Findhorn.

Wonderful stay, beautiful cottage, kept warm by the woodburner and underfloor heating even in the wildest weather, truly in the wilderness! You could probably manage the track in a 2wd car with good ground clearance if you're careful and take it slow: no problem at all in a 4x4. The ford looks like it was recently maintained and was only a few inches deep even after heavy rain and snow.
