Pityoulish Cottage is nestled in a beautiful spot on the Pityoulish Estate overlooking the River Spey. Here you can relax and enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the Cairngorms National Park.  For local facilities, there is Boat of Garten (three miles) and Aviemore (five miles); this is the main hub of the Cairngorms and offers a range of activities, including bars, restaurants and shops. Furthermore, it is only a 50-minute drive to the city of Inverness, which has an airport with national and international connections.  This is the perfect place for both those looking for a rural retreat and the more adventurous spirits.

As Scotland’s second National Park, the Cairngorms are known for their stunning natural beauty.  It’s easy to escape into nature on one of the many hiking and mountain biking trails. Fishing is available in many of the parks' pristine rivers and lochs. The park’s most famous mountain, Cairn Gorm, is a short drive and is open as a ski area during the winter months. Ben Macdui, Britain’s second tallest mountain, towers nearby.

There are many places that offer activities to entertain all the family in the surrounding area. Landmark Forest Adventure Park is a hilarious day out with a range of attractions, including log flumes, a treetop trail and the dinosaur kingdom. Those with a more adventurous spirit would find a challenge at the Rothiemurchus Estate, which organises a wide variety of outdoor activities, including pony trekking, quad biking and river tubing. Animals lovers will enjoy visiting Britain’s only free-roaming reindeer herd at the reindeer sanctuary. A little further south is the Kincraig Wildlife Park, home to tigers, polar bears and red pandas. The Speyside Whisky Trail offers an indulgent cultural experience for adults through Scotland’s region with the largest number of distilleries.

Accommodation wise the property has everything a small family or a couple would need; on the ground level, the open plan/kitchen and dining area is well equipped with all the usual appliances and enjoys views to the surrounding countryside and direct access to the outside. The sitting room is tastefully furnished and has a wood burner, ideal for relaxing by after a day exploring the local hills. Completing the facilities is a modern shower room.

On the upper level, there are two bedrooms, both with traditional combed ceilings, a double and a twin, which again both have views. Outside, the garden area offers a fabulous gazebo-style building ideally positioned to enjoy the views and a fire pit area with views down to the River Spey below.

We had a wonderful two week stay in Pityoulish Cottage. The views are stunning. The Sitooterie was also very special. We sat one evening watching Deer chasing each other on the other side of the river. The cottage was nicely presented and comfortable. The nearby Loch Pityoulish is quiet and perfect for paddle boarding and swimming. A great base for exploring the area. We would love to return.

wonderful place to stay, views from the windows and garden are incredible. Made full use of the garden room as the sunset. Swam most days in the loch opposite the cottage. Lovely clean, bright, quiet place to stay in a stunning location

The pictures don't really do this place justice, especially the views which are lovely from every window. The view down the Spey from the kitchen is fabulous and waking up to a view of the loch each morning was lovely. The garden is enormous and the fire pit and sitooterie really special. The location is good with a couple of short walks from the door and a short drive to the best bits of the Cairngorms. It is a traditional cottage so don't expect much headroom upstairs but it has been extended tastefully downstairs. The only reason I have not awarded five stars is because it could do with a freezer and microwave. Having an external washing machine is not a big issue, it's a 10 second walk away but it was quite old and took a bit of getting use to. All in all I would definitely be back. The views and homely feel more than make up for a few missing appliances.

Lovely cottage in a very quiet location with stunning views over the Spey Valley. Very well presented. The fact the fridge didn't have an ice-box and there wasn't a microwave were the only downsides.

Our second time here and already booked our third for the summer! What a fantastic cottage, it really is a gem and I'm so glad I found it. The grandparents have stayed with us each time too in the bothy which has been great for added childcare and for us getting out for some adventures on our own. Thoroughly recommend

We had a fantastic week at this perfectly situated cottage. Beautiful views over the River Spey and just a couple of minutes walk to the loch where we spent many hours swimming and paddle boarding. The cottage had everything we needed. I hope we can return again sometime soon!

Newly renovated clean cottage in lovely location with fabulous views over the River Spey. Note there is no freezer and only access to a washing machine by contacting owners. Hopefully this could be rectified. We would definitely consider returning .

Beautiful cottage. Immaculate inside & out. We particularly loved the views from the garden & sitooterie to the river Spey & were lucky enough to see an osprey fly by. Good swimming & paddling in Loch Pityoulish & excellent mountain biking in the beautiful forests.

Lovely cottage, fully modernised but retains character. The views from the kitchen and dining area, out over the River Spey, are wonderful. Perfect location, secluded but within easy reach of Aviemore. We are very keen to return.
