Cnoc Ard is a traditional property situated in the coastal village of Scourie in North West Sutherland. The village itself offers a small range of facilities, including a couple of small shops, a petrol station and a local hotel. The property is situated in a quiet location and would make an ideal base for exploring this part of Scotland, including Handa Island, a reserve run by the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
The property has been tastefully furnished and equipped to a high standard. The living room and kitchen are open plan. The living room features modern leather sofas and a flat-screen TV with a DVD player, and also benefits from a wood burner, with the exposed stonework being a particularly striking feature. The kitchen features all the standard appliances and a comprehensive range of crockery and equipment.
Further facilities on the ground level include a twin bedroom. The main bathroom is also located on this level and has a bath, ideal for relaxing in after a day walking in the surrounding hills. Upstairs, guests will find two additional bedrooms, both of which enjoy views from the front of the property. The bedrooms are identical in size, and both feature a double bed and a single bed. A shower room completes the facilities on this level. The property features a small, enclosed garden to the front, and the owner has provided seating and a barbecue.
Go for a delicious dinner and a stroll through the gardens to find the world's most northerly palm tree at Scourie Lodge. Fancy catching your own dinner? Get a fly-fishing permit and fish for brown trout in one of the region's countless freshwater lochs.
Scourie is nestled in the heart of the UNESCO-recognised Northwest Highlands Geopark, which covers 770 square miles. The geopark is a geologist's dream, where you can find some of the oldest rocks in Europe. The area’s fascinating geology makes for striking mountains, inviting you to climb them. There are hikes to be found for all abilities, with some of Scourie’s most impressive being Arkle, Quinag and Ben Stack.
Handa Island is home to over 200,000 birds, including skuas, guillemots, razorbills and over 250 pairs of puffins. The Handa ferry trip lasts only 10 minutes, leaving you 3 hours to explore the island before the return journey. If you love the sea but don’t fancy a boat trip, Scourie Beach is only a short walk from Cnoc Ard. Or if you fancy a bit of a trek, Sandwood Beach, one of the most beautiful and remote beaches in the UK, involves a 4-mile walk across rough terrain.
The property has two bedrooms, each with a double and single bed. However, a sofa bed is available in the sitting room, which can be used if required. Please request it at the time of booking.
Two well-behaved pets are permitted at the property at no additional charge. However, guests should be aware that due to the house being situated in a crofting community, there is the possibility that sheep will be in the vicinity and in the surrounding fields.
A Good Housekeeping Deposit of £75 is required at this property.

Clean and comfortable accommodation in Scourie with everything we needed including a log burning stove after a particularly wet walk. Scourie itself has a Spar - with a bar and a TV and basic bar food - next to the campsite, and a food truck down by the beach - Crofter's Kitchen - where you can buy gourmet food freshly sourced from the North West Highlands to eat outside there, or take back to your accommodation.
We enjoyed a lovely week at Cnoc Ard. Very comfortable house with everything we needed over our stay. Scourie and the surrounding area provided us with plenty to do and see despite the unseasonable weather. We managed to squeeze in a walk from Achfary to Kylestrome between worst of the weather fronts.
A warm, welcoming, comfy home in a fabulous location. The house had everything we needed. My only slight reservation is the size of the living space for the number of beds. We were only two humans and two dogs and we filled the living space! Fine if you can be out during the day. Overall, we loved it and I hope to return.
This was a 5 star holiday home excellent in every way spotless and very well maintained thanks.
We spent a very comfortable week at Cnoc Ard. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard. Basically we could not fault it. Wi-fi strong and reliable...kept the teenager happy. 2 bathrooms a real bonus. Great location to explore the local area. Highly recommended.
Practical and relaxing accommodation with wonderful views. Everything just felt so easy and loved the location just a short walk away from amenities.
