The Old Post Office is newly renovated and available to the self catering market for the first time. The property enjoys panoramic views of Clashnessie Beach and is close to Clashnessie Falls. The location is an ideal base for exploring the scenic, mountainous area of Assynt on the west coast of Sutherland. The North Coast 500 route goes through the village of Clashnessie.
Inside, the property is stylishly furnished and equipped to a high standard throughout. The open plan sitting/dining room has a double height ceiling and is positioned to enjoy spectacular views of the beach and the beautiful coastline around it. The contemporary kitchen is well equipped with all the usual appliances.
The property has 3 bedrooms: a king sized bedroom on the ground floor, which has views of the surrounding hills, stylishly furnished, with quality bed linen and towels supplied.
Completing the facilities on this level is a large shower room with a walk-in shower.
From the downstairs hall, stairs lead to the upper level which has a further king size bedroom and a twin bedroom, as well as a shower room with walk-in shower.
Clashnessie is 9 miles away from Lochinver, which provides a good range of facilities including 2 small supermarkets, post office, doctor’s surgery, petrol station, butcher, cafes, restaurants (including the Lochinver Larder, famous for excellent pies) and Highland Stoneware’s shop at Baddidarroch.
The drive north from Inverness takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery that Scotland has to offer. In this area the North West Highland Geopark is located: the oldest rocks in Europe are to be found in Assynt.
No matter what your favourite outdoor pursuit is, The Old Post Office offers something for everyone. The local hills are ideal for the walker and the country roads are ideal for the cyclist. As well as Clashnessie Beach, there are several other beautiful beaches nearby.
For fishing, Loch Na Claise is close by and permits can be purchased from the Assynt Crofters’ Trust. The property is also close to the North Coast 500 route and a day trip to the scenic areas further north is highly recommended. For something a bit more relaxing, a five minute stroll from the house takes you to Clashnessie Beach.

The Old Post Office was an amazing and lovely house to stay at. You can sit and watch the view to the beach all day. The house was spotlessly clean and had all facilities you needed for your visit. We arrived at the start of 'Storm Amy' which was exciting but you felt safe and warm in the house. The scenery in the area is spectacular. We really didn't want to leave!
What a stunning renovation to the old house and so well equipped.
Who would not want to wake up to a view like that?
We enjoyed our week at the old post office after a shaky start. We had carefully reviewed the cottage details, street walked the location and checked the OS map and satellite - but we hadn't anticipated that getting a VW van and a kayak/ bike trailer up to the cottage would be quite so problematic. The loose gravel on the drive and the angle between it and the road meant we had to unhitch the trailer, unload the bikes and boats, lower the jockey wheel to lift the back end to avoid it grounding on the road and then push it up the drive. We only managed it because a passing car driver stopped and came and helped us. I then spent the week worrying about how we would get it off again (fortunately we had rope, belay device and climbing slings to hand so we roped it off the drive and packed up on the neighbours track). All added a bit of stress to arrival and departure. I'm guessing that the instruction to reverse down the drive is to avoid grounding a vehicle as it joined the road - that worked fine as long as we swung left into the neighbours track.
That said, the cottage is really lovely and well equipped and of course a fab location. Might be a bit cramped for 6, but perfect for the two of us. Would be helpful if you could offer somewhere to put bikes and outdoor kit (any room in the shed perhaps?)

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to learn that your arrival was not as we would have liked. Its important that guests are as fully informed as they can be for our properties which is why we include as much additional information in our Access Arrangements which are emailed to guests prior to their stay. We note that a more detailed description was included in yours: There is parking for one car on site. To access the parking space, you need to turn tight left into it. However, there is not a 360 degree turning area, so a 3 point turn will not be possible to exit. In order to get out from the parking space, you will need to carefully reverse your car back out. Thank you for your feedback.
Wonderful cottage with views that are priceless.
The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Clashnessie beach is just a short walk away, as is Clashnessie Falls. Comical watching the sheep arrive and sit in the phone box in front. You will not be disappointed with the cottage or the area, if you stay here.
Our two weeks in this beautiful house went by far too quickly. From the moment we arrived, it felt like home. The view over the bay is absolutely breathtaking in all kinds of weather, something you'll never forget. The house was very clean, lovingly furnished, and well equipped. Communication with the agency was always extremely friendly and uncomplicated, just the way it should be. We can recommend the Inverpark Stores, a well-stocked supermarket, and, of course, the delicious pies from Lochinver Larder, an absolute must. As a starting point for wonderful hikes, the house was perfect for us. It's a true "soul place" in Scotland, we will definitely be back
We had a wonderful , very relaxing week at The Old Post Office. The home is comfortable and very well equipped for self catering. the bedlinen and pillows were so sumptuous that we made a note of the make! The view from the picture window is stunning and we saw so many different birds including Osprey, eagles and gannets which were diving for fish. We also saw a pod of dolphin. The hosts and Wilderness Cottages officecwere very quick to respond to any queries. We were sad to leave and highly recommend this property to anyone
