High Tor House is located in a rural location just over 3 miles from the village of Tarbert. The property is the highest building on Harris, which ensures uninterrupted panoramic views across the sea and towards the mainland. The location is an ideal base to experience all that that Harris has to offer, including all the beautiful beaches which the area is renowned for.
Inside the property is spacious with all the accommodation being on the one level, the main living area is open plan with the sitting room, dining room and kitchen being one. This is a fabulous space that offers direct access to the decked area and to the mature garden. The sitting room with its wood burner has comfortable sofas and Sky TV is provided. The kitchen has all the usual appliances including a Quooker hot tap, and all the equipment that any avid cook would need.
The house has two bedrooms; one king-size with sea views and the other a twin. The bedrooms have quality bed linen and towels are provided, both also have TVs. The family bathroom has a double ended bath and a separate shower enclosure. Completing the facilities is a utility room complete with washing machine and tumble dryer. Outside there are various areas to sit and relax, including the decked area and patio. Access via steps also leads down to the wild garden, which is a haven for the local birds and wildlife.
The nearest village to the property is Tarbert (3 miles) here you will find a good selection of local shops, cafes, tourist information and petrol station. A couple of favourites to visit are the Harris Tweed shop and the Isle of Harris Distillery, which has become famous for their locally produced gin. Further afield the large town of Stornoway (36 miles) offers a more varied selection of places of interest; a large supermarket is also located here.
High Tor house is ideal for venturing to one of the world famous beaches located at Luskentrye, Scarista or Horgabost with its turquoise water, golden sands and miles of sand dunes. For the more adventurous why not try sea kayaking or take a dune buggy adventure. For a day trip travel the Golden Road, through the bays on the east coast of the island with their miniature fjords. This rocky and rugged landscape is steeped in history and well worth a visit.
For outdoor enthusiasts the house is ideal for walking, cycling, climbing or bird watching. Take a boat trip to St Kilda and visit their world heritage site and see an array of wildlife including puffins, golden eagles and curlew. For hill walkers The Clisham located north of Tarbert offers spectacular views from its summit, to Lewis in the North and South Harris and on a clear day the island of St Kilda in the west.

By Ferry -
Caledonian MacBrayne www.calmac.co.uk operates direct ferry services from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Tarbert (1 hour 40 minutes crossing) or alternatively Ullapool to Stornoway (2 hour 30 minutes crossing plus a 50 minute drive to the cottage) Due to these ferries being extremely busy it is highly recommended that you book in advance.

Stornoway Airport (43 miles) has regular connections with Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow. These flights are operated by www.loganair.co.uk Once here car hire would be available.
