Calluna Cottage is situated in the small picturesque village of Arivruaich on the Island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The location is also a perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity, while observing the local varied wildlife from the cottage.

Welcome to Calluna Cottage

Calluna Cottage is well presented and equipped to a good standard.  With one bedroom the accommodation is ideal for two guests, however, an additional guest can stay as there is a sofa-bed available. The house has an "upside down" layout with the bedroom, kitchen and shower room on the lower level.  Upstairs the entire floor is given over to a spacious open plan sitting room/lounge, which maximises the views of the countryside and down towards the loch. The kitchen is well equipped and has dining for four, the bedroom has a king size bed and the shower room a mains fed shower. The upstairs area has been thoughtfully designed to provide a TV viewing area area at one side, with the sofa, armchair and footstool.  The other, side of the room has comfortable armchairs for four and a large coffee table, ideal for pouring over maps and planning your next activity, or curling up with a good book.  This room is spacious and light and the dormer windows ideal for viewing the magnificent scenery.

Exploring the surroundings of Calluna Cottage

Often thought to be separate islands, Lewis and Harris are actually areas of the same island divided by mountains. The northern two-thirds is called the Isle of Lewis and the southern third the Isle of Harris. Arivruaich village if located five miles from the border, making Calluna Cottage ideal as a base to visit both areas. Harris tends to be very hilly and Lewis quite flat in comparison. The main town on Lewis is Stornoway which offers a good range of facilities. On Harris the main population centre would be Tarbert.

You can from the cottage, enjoy the outdoors whether kayaking, cycling or walking - the Hebridean Way is closeby. For climbers, the North Harris hills are quite accessible and are wild and unspoilt.  This is the habitat of a great number of golden eagles, red deer and is also home to Sea eagles, red grouse and mountain hares. The Clisham at 799m is the highest point in the Outer Hebrides with spectacular views from its summit to Lewis in the North, South Harris and - on a clear day - St Kilda in the West.

Visit the galleries exhibiting and selling local Hebridean art and jewellery and the regular craft market of locally made goods. There is, of course, the now world-renowned Isle of Harris Distillery. The cottage is perfectly located for exploring the island and all it has to offer.  Many of the beautiful white sandy beaches are just a short drive away with plenty of lovely cafes to stop for lunch or coffee. Whatever you want to experience of modern-day life or the history, crofting and seafaring traditions of the island, it is all accessible from Calluna Cottage.
