Surrounded by mountains, lochs, and the sea, Old School Byre is the perfect retreat for nature lovers. Assynt is home to an array of wild birds and animals. Eagles, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Herons, Pine Martens, Otters, Deer, Seals, and Dolphins are just some of the wildlife you can hope to see.
For more active guests, there are many hikes to explore. From the gentler scenic walks exploring Achmelvich, Clachtoll and the Culag Woods to more challenging walks to The Old Man of Stoer & The Point, The Bone Caves circuit at Inchadamph, and Eas a' Chual Aluinn - Britain's highest waterfall. Or scale the majestic mountains of Suilven, Canisp or Quinag. These are just a few breathtaking walks in the area, you would need to return many times to experience them all...as many people do.
Old School Byre is conveniently located 9 miles from the fishing village of Lochinver, which provides a good range of facilities, including, 2 local stores, butcher, post office, petrol station, cafes, restaurants including the highly rated Delilah's Restaurant and Bar, and Lochinver Larder (definitely worth a visit to sample their famous pies).
If you enjoy arts and crafts, Made in Assynt hosts regular markets in Lochinver Village Hall that feature produce from local artists, crofters, and crafters. A visit to Highland Stoneware is also a must for beautiful handmade pottery.
