Woodside Lodge is situated on a working croft in the village of Achintraid on the shore of Loch Kishorn offering superb views over the loch to the Applecross mountains, one of the finest wilderness areas in Scotland. The property has recently been re-fitted throughout offering guests very comfortable accommodation in a stunning West coast location. An ideal centre for boating, fishing, hill-walking, climbing, wildlife, seal spotting, cycling and relaxation.
There are sheep and poultry on the croft, so dogs are allowed but must be under control at all times. Fenced garden with the property. The village of Kishorn has a general store and post office. There is also an excellent seafood snack bar offering delicious locally caught fish and shellfish..
Whilst staying at Woodside Lodge you may catch a glimpse of the resident Pine Martens or see the otters in the bay. Roe and red deer are often seen around the chalets at dusk and early morning. Golden Eagles have been spotted whilst making the trip to Applecross and in the Kishorn Glen, so don't forgot your camera!
Lochcarron is just seven miles away offering shops, hotels, restaurants and garages. The local craft shops and the Lochcarron Weavers are well worth a visit. Bikes available for hire.
Twelve miles around Loch Carron are Attadale Gardens which have an abundance of plants, trees and shrubs, together with brilliant displays of rhododendrons and azaleas, against a backdrop of pine and heather clad mountains.
A drive over the Bealach Na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) provides breathtaking views of Loch Kishorn and across to Skye, leading you to Applecross where there is an award winning pub/restaurant and beautiful unspoilt beaches which offer stunning views of the isles of Raasay and Skye.
In Torridon, there is a Countryside Centre devoted to Red Deer and other wildlife in the area.
There is a wide range of loch and sea fishing available to visitors in magnificent scenery in and around Lochcarron. Some lochs are close at hand and others are a bit of a walk. Brown Trout are the most common of hill loch fish, though there are a couple of lochs which support Artic Char and Pike.

Best Features
Truly beautiful place, lodge was perfect. Deer in the garden, view of the loch from our window. So quiet, just what we had hoped for. Everyone was so helpful in rebooking our reservation due to the pandemic. Sally and John were at hand to offer advice and a supply of the freshest eggs ever.
Very well equipped cottage in a cute quiet town at Loch Kishorn, only a 10-minute drive away from the bigger town Lochcarron (ATM, Spar, gas station, restaurants). We had a very pleasant (and way too short!) stay and would recommend Woodside Lodge to anyone. Important to know: bring plenty of DEET or something to protect against midgies and mosquitos. Especially the midgies were a real plague during our stay. Also good to know, the last part of the road to the cottage is pretty steep and off-road.
Very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Fantastic view, friendly owner. Nice garden where we could let the dogs out. Only small problem was that one corner of the fence right at the back of the property was down and one of our dogs is a bit of a Houdini, but we just made sure we stayed out with him.
My Border Collie, Pip, and I spent a few lovely days in Woodside Lodge in October. The weather was brilliant and the views spectacular. The cottage was the best appointed self catering cottage I have ever been to. It was warm, well equipped and the fenced in garden area was brilliant. We toured around the area, but next time (and there will be a next time) we will allow a bit more time to spend a bit more 'chill-out' time in the cottage. I would highly recommend it.
Despite the wet weather we spent an enjoyable week at Woodside Lodge, which is comfy and well equipped. The views (when we could see them) of the Applecross mountains and Lochcarron were stunning. It is also a good base for exploring further afield to Plockton, Torridon, Skye and Shieldaig. The only thing we found detrimental was the steep and rutted road up to the Lodge which had been made worse because of the rain but we don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle which would have been better. The owners were very friendly and it was nice to have free range eggs from them.
Had a most enjoyable time at Woodside lodge, very cosy and everything and more you could wish for. The scenery when it is not raining is amazing. Would not hesitate in returning to the lodge.
What a fabulous place, equipped with everything you could need and more. Owner only a phone all away if needed and supplier of best eggs you ever had!!!!!. Drive is a bit steep but it takes you to a nicely secluded spot over looking some fantastic scenery and birds and wild life in the garden so no need to move for entertainment if you did not want to. Would recommend for everybody.
Great cabin in an absolutely beautiful location. We stayed for five days before Easter and it was a wonderfully refreshing break away from Edinburgh.
What a great place, on arrival we were met by Sally who made us most welcome,Woodside had all we needed, the scenery and wildlife were fantastic not to mention the pine marten that dined with us every night. We found the local folk to be some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Half the fun of this area is to discover it for your self so I won't say no more except we intend to return. Thanks Sally Col and Sue
We had a very good and comfortable time at Woodside Lodge,on arrival we were met by Sally and made most welcome. The scenery and wildlife we saw close by is something to behold. The visit by the Pine Martens each night ended a long quest to photograph one. Owls, hedgehogs, bats and lots of bird life on the feeding table by day. The local people are some of the most helpful and friendly folk you could wish to meet any where in the world. We intend to return. Thank you Sally.
we have just returned from a week in woodside lodge, the cottage was like home from home, cosy with everything you could possibly need. the views are stunning, and the surroundings awesome. theres so much to do in this beautiful location! we didnt get to meet the owners as we were so busy but they were just on the end of the phone. only thing i would say is can you make the entrance sign bigger as we missed it completely!
A lovely well equiped cottage in a fantastic location. The viiews are stunning and it a great base for travelling. Recommend the drive through applecross mountains, scary at times but breathtaking! Lots of information in the cottage on things to do.
A stunning tranquil location set in private woodland with views across the loch with the mountains as a backdrop. The wildlife is amazing as to is the lodge, a true home from home and well equipped too. John and Sally are like old friends and nothing is too much trouble to make your stay relaxing. The locals are welcoming too and always give a friendly wave and happy to chat. A wonderful holiday and we were blessed with 6 days of pure sunshine. Will be booking again for sure.
We had a lovely 2 wks at the lodge surroundings with great views. Many nice trips to make along coastal routes with stunning scenery. Applecross mountain route recommended and great food and views at the Applecross Inn. Trip to Ullapool also a must and a trip on the Summer Queen well worth the money and if lucky like we were you will get the see a pod of dolphins. Excellent location even better with nice weather we will return.
This was our first time here and we were really impressed. Woodside is nicely, and secludedly, located above the shore of Loch Kishorn with a great view of the Bealach Na Ba.there are local amenities (sea food restaurant and shop) and Lochcarron shops are a 10 minute drive away. The garden is fully secure and there's plenty of wildlife to see. The owners, Sally and John are most helpful.
lovely cottage beautiful views the country side was beautiful our granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her self it was magic to see 4 stags standing by the stream we will definetly be back
One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in, well equipped and the "hosts" were so helpful. We?ll be back! Thanks a million!
John & Jackie Cowell, Lincolnshire
Sally and John, they think of everything, it was a home from home but with stunning scenery, very unusual visitors to the garden, Pine Martins, Buzzard Wrens, siskins the list goes on, The sea food cabin at Kishorn is very good, Oh, nearly forgot to mention Sally?s free range eggs are loverly !!
A beautifully fitted lodge set in a secluded location. Everything we required was on hand, well maintained and presented thanks to John and Sallys attention to detail. Its clear they are committed to maintaining that standard as they are keen on feedback and any suggestions guests may have. Kishorn/Lochcarron and the whole of the Wester Ross area are stunning, we love it and look forward to returning.
Once again thanks to John and Sally Parker also Corrine of Wilderness Cottages who arranged everything for us.
A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location no matter what the weather! The cottage offers excellent accomodation and facilities.
It is ideally based for exploring the local area such as Kishorn, Lochcarron and Applecross as well as Skye and Lochalsh and the Northern Highlands.
We will be back next year!
Fantastic view and accomodation, a real home from home (if only we had such stunning surroundings!)We set out for a relaxing break and thats exactly what we got helped too by the frindly welcome from owners John and Sally. Woodside Lodge makes an excellent base if you want to tour the West Coast or appreciate what is close by, you can never tire of the stunning views.
