What a lovely cottage in tranquil surroundings with magical views of the surrounding mountains. Only 30 minutes walk through the woods. Down a steep forest path to portree. The owners are marvellous with everything you need at hand. The open fire is so do wonderful. Wilderness cottages were also a pleasure to deal with and will certainly use them again in the future

Excellent cottage which was very spacious and comfortable and great surroundings. The cottage had everything you could except modern and very clean. The owner was very hospitable and I would say probably ranked one of the best cottages I have stayed in the Highlands without a doubt. I would most certainly love to return with the family and stay again. Thank you for an excellent stay and I was using Wilderness Cottages for the first time.

The location of this cottage is truly exceptional. Your front garden is literally the beach. The view in every direction is fantastic, looking across the loch to Skye or simply watching the weather passing over Applecross. The cottage is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Plenty of walks on the doorstep to suit every ability and loads of opportunities to watch the wildlife. Local dining out is also fantastic. Only negative (or positive depending on your outlook) is the phone signal is weak/intermittent. Simply the best cottage we have ever stayed in.

Ardbeg is a lovely cottage in a stunning location. We could have looked at the view from the deck for hours. Everything had been thought of to ensure a lovely and relaxing holiday. We particularly appreciated the BBQ and outdoor seating. The availability of 2 separate indoor seating areas will be great for mixed age family groups. The cottage was exceptionally well maintained and spotless.

Very comfortable and cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings. Extremely peaceful location with splendid wildlife and walks from the door. Within easy reach of the Cairngorms and the north coast, we would recommend staying here. A brief note about the track up to the property; in this (very wet) summer it was easily passable in my Vitara (a 'road' AWD), so something like that or a 4WD Qashqai etc would be fine. In the winter it might be a different story.

Stoer Lodge

We loved our week at Stoer Lodge. This cottage has loads of character and history. There's some lovely touches - the old school chairs, the photos and many of the original features. The cottage is well equipped and was spotlessly clean. Stoer beach is easy to access, there's some fabulous walks and the assynt region definitely worth the long drive north.

The cottage is very nice, cosy and has everything you could need for your stay. It is in a lovely private setting and it's great to be able to walk to the Loch and around the grounds of the castle. When going to the private beach it may feel like you've gone wrong but keep going through the gate and follow it round, you have to pass through a farm. The track to the beach is very bumpy, if your car has good ground clearance though you should be fine. Had a lovely stay and saw red squirrels which is a first for us so really pleased.

The Barn, Corrimony

The Barn is spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean. The Wifi is a little weak but who needs this when in the Highlands. There is lots to do and we made the most of every day. Lots of walks on the doorstep. I can recommend a walk to Corrimony Falls. It was our favourite waterfall although Plodda falls was impressive too. There is a friendly Spar in Cannich and I can recommend The Bog Cotton cafe also in Cannich. We had an amazing week and we loved every minute, the only trouble is that it went too quick.

This is the 2nd time we have visited the Log House based in Fort Augustus. It's in the centre of the Highlands and the perfect base to explore the west and east coast. The Log House is set in Beautiful Woodland with lots of great walks from your door and a 5 minute drive into Fort Augustus. The Bathroom is new, and the Cabin is very well equipped and full of Character. If you want peace, quiet and relaxation with fresh air in beautiful surroundings you will find it here. As usual Wilderness Cottages make everything easy to book and the Website is the easiest and most informative in the Holiday industry with great staff to help in the office.

Having Roseville as our base for exploring the Assynt area was perfect. The house has been designed with careful thought about what visitors want for a comfortable stay. Above and beyond facilities like multiple en-suite rooms, SkyQ and the Nespresso machine were greatly appreciated. The village shop had all the provisions we needed and the hotel, although only serving their guests at the time of our visit due to COVID, seemed to have a nice bar and restaurant. Roseville offered us comfort, high standards, a super location and a real home from home. Can't recommend highly enough.

Wonderful house in an amazing setting. We really enjoyed our stay here. A couple of things if you're thinkig of booking, the garden is fully enclosed except for the gate - if you have a small dog they can get under it, like ours did....... and the water pressure isn't great which can't be helped but the rainfall shower was more like a drizzle - to rinse your hair use the hand held hose. Local cafe and walks excellent. We spoke to one one of the fishermen at the pier and got fresh lobser and langoustine for dinner one night.

Hill Cottage

Hill Cottage is located in a stunning location on the very edge of the North Western Highlands overlooking the open sea loch of Laxford, with absolutely stunning views of the loch's islands and the Foinaven and Arkle mountains behind. The cottage has everything you need with the highlight being the rear conservatory which provides shelter from the elements and protection from midges in the summer while still offering the wonderful vistas below. Within very easy reach is Handa island, which offers a veritable feast of bird wildlife, from skuas to fulmars to puffins. Be aware though that the puffins leave by the end of July! The setting is perfect for those who wish to find solitude and really immerse themselves into the Scottish landscape. Dotted about the area are dozens of tiny lochs and rolling, windy roads. Down the hill, next to the old school, lies a great place to launch a small boat or kayak. Seals are dotted around the islands and are well worth the trip out if you can. With so many things to be positive about it's hard to mention the negatives, but we feel we must be honest to future guests. Firstly, we found the bed very uncomfortable and in need of replacing; and secondly, there is ongoing house construction just down the road from the cottage which is well underway. It was of course noisy at times and disturbing to us, considering we went there to get away from it all and were there for 2 weeks. Now this is not a fault of the cottage owner but rather Wilderness Cottages themselves who we felt might have been more transparent about it on their website or at the time of booking. I do hope that these changes can be made. Having said all that we felt the positives far outweighed the negatives and would recommend Hill Cottage to future guests.

Wilderness Cottages Replied...

Dear Mrs Gratton, Thank you for your review and feedback. To confirm Wilderness Cottages was not aware that a house was being built in the vicinity, however we have discussed this with the owner. Although at this stage there will be some building noise which we have no control over, having reviewed the position of the new property on a map, we do feel that the house is far enough away not to detract from the beautiful and scenic position that Hill Cottage is located in.

Beach Lodge

The location of the beach lodge is fabulous we needed a remote base due to our youngest of 5 being an autistic child. It was special to be able to walk about 100yds to the beach and have the ability to allow the children and the dogs to run free and explore the beach and rock pools whilst the lodge also allowed for a relaxing time due to its walled garden giving us a safe play space. Remember to take garden and beach toys with you if you are going there with children. The patio was secluded and shielded from the wind downside of this is there is no view at the rear of the property just the view of the bank covered in bracken. We were warned about not walking near the bracken due to ticks present. A few other points to be aware of on the beach at the time we were there a large number of lions mane jellyfish were washed up and a member of the public close by us got a nasty sting, The beach was rarely deserted we saw many other beach goers, fishermen fishing from the beach, a local guy turned up with a van and let 20 dogs out for a run and also one night saw wild campers in two large tents who left their rubbish behind when they left the next day. Most evenings the heard of cows come down to the field between the house and the beach to roam and on the last night were very aggressive towards my Husband as he was walking the dogs back from the beach about 40 of them came stampeding over and I had to go to pick him and the dogs up in the car to be able to get them back to the house safely. It may be because they have calves with the herd but please be aware of this if you have dogs it felt very frightening. As mentioned in most reviews the drive is very rough and much worse than we expected. It made us only want to make essential journeys so we didn't explore the area. The email confirmation recommends the use of a 4x4 and we would certainly endorse this as essential. I loved finding out about the history of the beach lodge the fact that it is listed by Historic Scotland as a building of historic interest and was built in 1789 the twin bedroom at the rear was originally the servants quarters. Lots of the character features remain curved walls, flagstone floors some original fireplaces windows with shutters etc. Overall we had a great time and would like to return especially if the worst part of the drive was to be improved.
