We stayed at this beautiful holiday home during the first two weeks of November. We saw all of the weather over the two weeks and loved every bit of it - mostly because we could cosy down in the lodge during the stormiest days. We saw the aurora on several nights (visible through a camera) and the bird watching around the holiday let was fabulous. It is the only time I have ever watched a hooded crow playing catch with a pebble, right outside the lodge. Lots of birds prey, very close. A gorgeous base for adventures, highly recommended.

Lovely property! Very cosy, excellent log burner and GCH. Great bathroom with huge bath/shower and well-equipped kitchen with useful washing machine and tumble-dryer. Takes about 30 minutes easy walk to the centre of the village for shops etc, or five minutes in car. Beds very comfortable too. We will book the Log Cabin again, for sure.

As always, it truly feels like coming home. This is our second stay and certainly not the last. The cottage is of a very high standard with a beautiful view. Everything you could need is provided, and the underfloor heating keeps the place wonderfully warm. There is always a lovely welcome pack with tea and biscuits, and this time, for New Year, we were even welcomed with pralines and prosecco, real luxury living. The cottage is spotless, absolutely nothing to complain about. The owner, Gill, is always helpful and ready to assist immediately. This cottage truly deserves 5 out of 5 stars. The surroundings are fantastic, with plenty to do. A short ferry trip takes you to Glencoe and Fort William, and another nearby ferry brings you to Mull. There are also beautiful walks in the immediate area, and you can step straight out of the garden directly to the water. It is very peaceful here, and even the local supermarket is conveniently close. In short, we once again had a wonderful holiday and were genuinely sad to leave. We will definitely return, this will be our regular place to stay.

We've stayed at the Challey on few occasions and also ways found it very welcoming. This year we thought we'd get away over Christmas and the Challey was the perfect place. We weren't disappointed! Mr & Mrs Grant had spread a few Christmas decorations around the place and it was very clean and more importantly cosy!! If there a two of you wishing to have a wee stay in the centre of Speyside then we'd highly recommend the Challey - go on give it a go :)

We stayed in Mathesons Croft over Christmas and what a joy to have found this beautiful place. We arrived in the dark and managed the track leading to the Croft fine, you just have to take it easy. The views in the morning where just "Wow" We enjoyed the open fire especially but altogether the Croft has everything you need. We managed the Range cooker with ease and our Christmas dinner turned out perfect! There's so much to see and do even in December and a little gem we found was Coral Beach near Plockton, look for the pink coral on the beach, its beautiful! The walk down is a bit steep - just for anyone with walking difficulties to bear in mind. We were very sad to leave our tranquil hideaway and return to normality.

Our first stay at The Coltsfoots. Wonderful and friendly hosts who made us very welcome. Thank you for the welcome gifts which we thoroughly enjoyed. The cabin is set in a lovely secluded spot, very quiet and peaceful, just the sound of the babbling river as it flowed through the garden. The cabin was immaculate and warm on arrival, it is very well equipped and a dryer was an added bonus. The bedrooms were a very generous size and the king size bed was very comfortable. We saw the shy red squirrels a few times but sadly no deer . We were visited daily by 3 pheasants who came for nuts left for the squirrels. The cabin is only a few minutes away from Fort Augustus and central for visiting many areas of the Highlands. We had a lovely relaxing 2 weeks and hope to return. Thank you. Highly recommended.

The cottage is delightful and comfortable in a beautiful location. The views are amazing and the whole area is breathtaking. We did have guests in the form of 3 field mice and this is clearly a regular occurrence as there were a number of humane traps provided. This didn't bother me as I live in the countryside and this is happens. You just have to keep food well shut away and check for mouse droppings. In November many places are closed or have limited opening hours but we can recommend the Applecross Inn (saw an otter while we were sat outside), Nanny's at Sheildaig and the Spa at Lochcarron. The applecross pass is a must see and you will need to use it really to get to Lochcarron. On our travels in the area we saw numerous red deer, 2 sea eagles, a seal, a pine marten and of course the otter. Would have no hesitation in coming back to the area, though if you have an electric car you cannot recharge at the cottage and there is no local charging point as yet. We recharged at Kyle of Lochalsh.

Seal Skerry Lodge

Seal Skerry Lodge is a fantastic base for visiting the Isle of Skye, conveniently located in the North West of the island. For photography enthusiasts, its proximity to Neist Point and its iconic Lighthouse, just a 10-minute drive,is a major advantage. The house is exceptionally well-appointed, providing everything needed for a week-long holiday. Our party of two, plus our dog, found it absolutely perfect. We visited in late October, expecting the mixed weather, which included two very windy nights. The log burner was a real highlight, keeping us wonderfully cosy. We did find the bath a minor inconvenience; it took a long time to fill, and the seating position coincided with the plug, meaning the water began to drain as soon as one settled in. Consequently, we opted for the shower for the remainder of the trip, but this was a very small issue overall. The bedrooms were very spacious, offering ample hanging space. Personally, I would have preferred a larger double bed or two singles zipped together. Driving on Skye was generally easy, and we encountered no road issues, though be aware that the house is accessed via a 20-minute drive down a single-track road with passing places. Those less comfortable with this type of road might prefer to avoid driving at night, which we did as a precaution. Despite this, the house itself is amazing. The views of Loch Pooltiel and the high cliffs are spectacular, even in the rain when you can watch huge waterfalls cascade down. The property was clean and tidy and suited our needs perfectly. There's a small, enclosed garden (grassed area with a gravel drive), which was ideal for our dog. I made it a point to walk down to the nearby jetty most days for the dog's early walk before we headed out. We were incredibly lucky to witness the Aurora Borealis during our stay, with its reflection clearly visible in the loch even to the naked eye. We also spotted numerous seals on nearby rocks, and a Sea Eagle flew overhead one morning. Wildlife sightings would likely be even better during the summer months. Seal Skerry Lodge is well-located for exploring the main sights on Skye, though it is a considerable distance from places like Elgol. Do make sure to visit the very well-stocked village shop in Glendale. Overall, we had a great holiday in a wonderful house and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Skye.
