The Challey at Heathcote
Absolutely brilliant place to stay. It is cosy without being too small, log burner was a great addition and in the winter would be great at keeping you warm. Although beside the owners it felt very private and you looked on to the garden and woods and with the birds and squirrels providing daily entertainment it was just a great place to relax.
Roseville
Roseville was a very clean, very well equiped and tastefully decorated holiday home and we felt very welcome. Its location is wonderful in the beautiful and rugged landscape of the northwest coast of Scotland. A Spar-shop is in walking distance, as are the beach and beautiful hill-walks. It is a delightful place for a very comfortable and beautiful holiday.
Braehead Steading
An excellent, spacious, property, perfectly situated just outside Ballater, and a stones throw distance off the Deeside way. The property is wonderfully connected to the local wildlife, with several housemartin nests around the outside of the property, adding the wonderful number of birds that visit the garden daily.
Loch Cottage
Amazing location and had a fantastic time. No complaints at all about the cottage. Setting cant be beaten.
Cedar Cottage
We had the most wonderful stay at Cedar Cottage near Forres, Wilderness Cottages were fantastic in answering all my queries and were always very prompt. We shall certainly be using Wilderness Cottages again.
Udrigle House
This was our second stay at Udrigle House and it was as lovely as we remembered. The house is full of character, and has everything you need for a stay on the west coast. Our kids are a bit older since our first stay so they could happily pop down to the beach on their own whilst adults sat in garden. Great location for various beach walks and a bit of fishing either on the lochs (fly) or in the sea. We just love it.
Loch Cottage
2nd visit to this cottage and enjoyed it as we did before. Ideal for water sports and has everything you need. Very peaceful and dog loved the garden and the loch.
Seascape Cottage
Lovely cottage, very clean, great location and very peaceful .We will definitely be coming back. The owner was very helpful and supplied a lovely welcome basket of goodies.
Port Elgol Cottage
This is a lovely, cosy cottage that's been tastefully decorated. The beds are comfortable, and the Wi-Fi is good. The best thing about it is the location. It's right on the shore of Loch Scavaig, with amazing views of Rum, Eigg and the Cuillin mountains. It was a real pleasure to stay in such a beautiful place.
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
Had a wonderful stay at old lock keepers cottage. Beautiful cosy cottage with amazing view. Would highly recomend
Hill Cottage
A brilliant cottage in a perfect location!
The Challey at Heathcote
The Challey was a wonderful place to stay - very comfortable and well equipped in a lovely hidden-away location among the trees. It was easy to get to the Speyside Way, local hills like Ben Rinnes and the Convals, and also to the Moray coast with old fishing villages like Cullen (for Cullen Skink) and walking the coast path over sands and cliffs. We appreciated the welcome wine, biscuits and fresh flowers from our kind host. Thank you.
Tor Cottage
The cottage was very acceptable but for four people it was not easy to watch TV due to the layout. No big deal really. Due to its remoteness from the nearest shops, a small welcome pack of essential items would be a good idea.
Fearnmore Church
Had a fantastic week at fearnmore church. House is lovely, extremely comfortable with everything you need. Warm and cosy. Visiting wildlife a real treat. Beautiful views. Only suggestion maybe a handrail at back door for older visitors such as ourselves! otherwise perfect
Log House
Thankyou for a lovely stay at the log house. Weather was beautiful. Location fabulous with dog walks on the doorstep. The log house itself was clean and comfortable although the sofas were a little tired looking. Beds would benefit from firmer mattresses but I know this is very personal preference. The single beds were more comfortable. Hot water plentiful and the log burner in the evening was lovely just to take the chill off. I would definitely stay again, but sadly the house is for sale :-(
Ardbeg
Another fab week in this beautiful home with views to die for - whatever the weather , the view and changing scenery makes even wet days enjoyable
Charleston
We had a wonderful stay at Charleston. The cottage is amazing, the rooms have a spectacular view and every wish is fulfilled. It was very quiet, which was relaxing. We mostly enjoyed the conservatory. The cottage is very clean and beautifully furnished. We would like to come back some day.
Aultmore
This is a fabulous house in a stunning setting. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything that we needed for the stay. The welcome basket was also a lovely touch - even down to the dog biscuits. There is so much to see and do in the area and whatever the weather this is a wonderful base from which to explore it. Couldn't recommend it enough!
The Old Post Office
Excellent location stunning view. The house is very cosy and nicely furnished. Kitchen is well equipped. Everything was tidy and clean. We would definitely stay there again.
Red Kite Log Cabin
Had a relaxing peaceful week at Red Kite Cottage. The garden was fully enclosed and so our dogs were safe and they had a great time. The cabin is well equiped and had everything you could ask for even down to a welcome pack.
Matheson's Croft House
A lovely old cottage in a beautiful location. Everything we needed for a great holiday. Plenty of instructions provided for everything. The driveway down is narrow but in very good condition and no problem to drive down. Plenty room at the house for parking. A fault occurred with the raeburn and was sorted very quickly by the owner. Great service.
Balachladdich
Lovely property in a very peaceful location. Very well equipped in general, and lots of space for the whole family. However, there's no terrestrial tv channels and the internet is slow by modern standards, which took the shine off a little.
Victoria Cottage
A beautiful cottage in one of the best possible locations in Scotland. Stunning. Cottage has everything we needed and it felt so comfortable. The entire place was perfectly clean and has great beds, fine linen and fluffy towels. Would love to return and hopefully will.
The Granary
Great location, everything you could need to self cater comfortable bed lovely owner
The Challey at Heathcote
Wow what a lovely place to stay 4 nights and didn't want to leave The interior of the property is stunning we will be coming back Great location for the whisky distillery's
Vindolanda
We had a fabulous time at Vindolanda. The cottage was charmingly decorated, spotless and with a particularly well- equipped kitchen. In addition, the views across the loch were incredible. We had our best holiday ever.
Braehead Steading
Beautiful house and setting, great for being so close to ballater but slightly out of town so nice and quiet. We were very lucky with a whole week of glorious sun. Would definitely stay here again!
Earth House
We had a fabulous week at Earth House. It's a quirky place with unmatched sea views and a lovely wild garden. It's only a mile or so from Mellon Udrigle beach so we could swim every day. We spotted otters and white tailed eagles from the garden. And a seal regularly basked on a rock nearby. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing week.
White-Tail Croft
We had a wonderful stay at White Tail Cottage. It's in a truly beautiful location with views over the nearby fields and hills over to the mountains in the distance. We saw deer on an evening and once a Sea Eagle. The cottage itself if lovely and has great amenities. We loved the sauna and the kitchen had everything we needed. The cottage would benefit from black out blinds so guests might want to take their own. Overall a fantastic stay and we'll keep our happy memories.
Log House
The log house was just as beautiful as I remembered as I was there 26 years ago when mr lees owned the property ! Have a fabulous time and the weather was very nice while we were there so added bonus !! Sadly didn't see any of the wild red deer that I saw every day before on my earlier visit but thoroughly enjoyed our break x
Appletree Studio
Appletree Studio is a gem of a property on this stunning piece of coast with lovely sea views from the bedroom and outside decking at the rear. The house has been very well and tastefully appointed and equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable self catering holiday and is a superb find for the less mobile thanks to the extra hand rails and supports in the excellent wet room. The owner, Jenny, has paid great attention to detail in providing for her guests. All in all, with the lovely gardens surrounding the property, it's a very nice place to stay. We hope to return.
Seascape Cottage
This was a comfortable, well appointed and spacious cottage in a quiet and peaceful, rural setting near the sea, with a clear view over to the Irish coast. We found the bed and sofas to be very comfortable, and the cottage had an excellent and powerful shower. Our hosts were both friendly, although non intrusive. We must also take this opportunity to thank them for a generous and scrumptious welcome hamper. We would return to this cottage in a heartbeat if the track leading to the cottage was more car friendly. It was anxiety inducing each time we had to venture out, which slightly undid the feeling of relaxation that the cottage and setting provided in abundance. Hopefully, this can be rectified and highlighted on the booking website, as this was one of our favourite cottages and location to date (we have been to approximately 40 cottages over the years). We do, however, appreciate that the responsibility for the track does not lie directly at the door of our hosts. Many thanks and we wish our hosts continued success for the future.
The Coltsfoots
Enjoyed a lovely week at The Coltsfoots. Hosts made us feel very welcome and provided a generous welcome pack. Accommodation itself was outstanding, very spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. The veranda was an added treat to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend for relaxing break.
Leachachan Barn
We had a super week, despite the changeable weather, what a perfect base to explore the west coast and the islands, we did NC500 last year in a motorhome and said we would return to spend more time in one place and we are so glad we picked Leachachan Barn. There are not enough words to describe the views from the Barn, despite it being a World Cup year we didn't have the TV on once, choosing to stay downstairs and take in the view whilst listening online. Our dog Scout loved the garden, the top grade sniffs on the foreshore and the trip on the Glenelg ferry, as well as a visit to Point of Sleat, Applecross, beach at Sand, Sheildaig (where we saw a sea eagle) and Fairy Pools. Lots of lovely food at Glenelg Inn, Fisherman's Kitchen, Applecross Walled Garden, Kishorn Seafood Shack and Cafe Cuil, and incredible hot chocolate at Chocolates of Glensheil. Our 8 hour drive was totally worth it, we will return in the future, the use of the EV charger was a game changer for us, hopefully more property owners will follow suit.
The Coltsfoots
We enjoyed our time at the Coltsfoots and found the owners to be extremely helpful and informative. We now wish we had stayed longer as it was very peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was well appointed and well maintained. We wish the owners all the very best for their future Thank you for a very peaceful and relaxing stay
Tor Cottage
We had the most wonderful stay at Tor Cottage. Booking was easy, the details online were accurate and directions clear. The cottage was immaculate and every appliance, furniture item and equipment was top quality. The views from all front facing rooms were stunning whatever the weather. Ruth the owner was really friendly and proud of her holiday cottage and always enjoyed having a chat when we met. It was an amazing week
Aultmore
We enjoyed a wonderful week with all the family at this very special house. So very comfortable, spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed visits to Inverewe gardens, Gairloch museum, cycles and many walks but always lovely to return to Aultmore to enjoy the spectacular views. Thank you and thanks too for making the booking process so very easy.
Appletree Studio
What a perfect spot. Wildlife, peace and pictures. Thank you Jenny! PS Even a piano to play!
Stable Cottage
A beautiful location with lots of wildlife and a very nice clean property, the only downside being the access road a mile drive along a track which in some parts was extremely potholed and bumpy, we had a large 4x4 vehicle but a car or fully loaded car may have difficulty. It was the only thing that would discourage us from returning.
Port Elgol Cottage
This is a wonderful cottage, warm, clean and cosy, well maintained by its owners and a nearby housekeeper. Its location is rare and exceptional, with no traffic noise at all, right on Loch Scavaig, with the Cuillins in front, and amidst fine local wildlife. I saw a few Black Guillemots and Gannets from the front porch, with Oystercatchers and Wheatears hopping around constantly. There are pleasant eateries within walking distance. Good internet connection.
Eilean Mor Cottage
Eilan Mor cottage We stayed here 3 years ago and it was so good to be back. The house is very comfortable with lots of nice finishing touches like locally woven throws and pictures from local artists. The conservatory is a good place to spend your time just watching the birds or looking at the lovely views. Very quiet and well off the road with a short walk down to the loch to watch the seals or the heron. We look forward to coming back soon.
Seal Skerry Lodge
We all really enjoyed a really relaxing, special week at Seal Skerry Lodge and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a wonderful escape from it all. We were a family of four (with two adult children) and were there to celebrate a 60th birthday and 24th birthday, and we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful location! The house has spectacular views to the sea and Outer Hebridean islands, and we all loved the open-plan aspect of the kitchen/dining area/lounge. I'd say the pictures don't quite do it justice! The bedrooms were comfy, with high quality bedding, and the 2 bathrooms were both good - particularly the lovely deep bath upstairs (a small shelf for toiletries to be added near the bath would be very helpful!). The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog who has never been happier than when she was out on the decking, sniffing the wind, admiring the view and barking at the nearby sheep and bunnies! The isolated location of the house was exactly what we wanted; right at the northern tip of Skye. There are many beautiful walks right from the house, and the hamlet of Glendale (10 mins drive or less away) provides a useful local store (top tip: try the very local Glendale ale!) and wonderful cafe, plus a craft fair on Tuesdays. About 30 minutes away is Dunvegan, with more restaurants, cafes and shops plus the old castle. We fitted a lot into our week - mountain hiking, wild swimming at Coral Beach and in the Torrin pools, shopping in pretty Portree, plus a few essential pub visits. Much wildlife was spotted on Skye, too. Otters in the sea right by Seal Skerry Lodge, a red deer in the garden one night, seals were also in the water near the house, and numerous birds were spotted when we were out exploring the island, including golden eagles and white-tailed eagles! All in all, we highly recommend this special house and feel extremely lucky to have stayed there. Thank you! NB: It was midgy when we were there (June), but deet insect repellant helped a lot and we simply avoided sitting outside at dusk and dawn! Plus, make sure you bring binoculars if you come, and clothes for all seasons!
Leachachan Cottage
Of all the holiday cottages we've stayed in, this one is right up there at the top of the list. It's beautifully situated, with easy access to the water and a fabulous view. It is meticulously presented and comes already stocked with some essentials like milk, oil, salt, tea, coffee and loo roll. We love this part of the country and enjoyed lovely days out and all weathers, including an epic thunder and lightening storm (the associated power cut was not a problem as there are plenty of emergency lights etc). Highly recommended!
Udrigle House
Lovely week in Wester Ross. Beautiful location, well equipped house which even has a sauna! Friendly hosts and lots to see in the area will be back!
Leachachan Cottage
What a magnificent property in a perfect setting. The most relaxing holiday we have ever had. The amount of wildlife we saw were amazing. The Pine Marten even visited in the daylight for the unsalted peanuts. We shall be back
Cattle Shed
Cattle Shed is a very pleasant accommodation, even on cool days. The underfloor heating and the wood-burning stove make it wonderfully warm inside. The kitchen is very well equipped. Many thanks for the honey, coffee and shortbread as a welcome gift. It would be helpful to separate the shower from the rest of the sanitary area with a curtain or a Plexiglas screen. The apartment is an excellent base for hiking in the Cairngorms and exploring the surrounding area, including countless distilleries!
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
Excellent location, enjoyed watching boats and canoes on the canal. Great walking area. Lots to see and do. Cottage was perfect for us with everything we needed being on the ground floor. Lots of outdoor seating and a couple of sun loungers. Good size enclosed garden for our dog. No vase for flowers or cushions for sun loungers, very minor observations. A very enjoyable holiday, thank you.
Sealight
Great place to stay. The house is in a stunning location with views of the loch from majority of the windows. The property is well equipped, especially the kitchen which has everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Its an easy walk to the shore-line and plenty of wildlife to see. We have regular visits from pine martens in the early evening as well as multiple different birds visiting the garden. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.
Charleston
Another lovely stay in Charleston and hoping we can come back. So peaceful and scenic there and very comfortable and well equipped. We always come away refreshed!
The Challey at Heathcote
The Challey at Heathcote, Knockando is a fantastic place to stay! We found it to be spotlessly clean, spacious and beautifully furnished with a modern, fresh feel. You relax as soon as you park up as the view from the Challey out to the garden and woodland beyond is beautiful. Could happily spend hours watching the antics of the various birds and red squirrels at the feeders. Have never had the chance to watch greater spotted woodpeckers that close up before. Speyside is a gorgeous part of the country with lots of great walking opportunities. We enjoyed getting out on hill, coastal and river walks. Would highly recommend the Challey to others and look forward to returning some day.
