Seahorses
Truly an exceptional property to stay in. The location is beautiful with incredible views and an abundance of wild life including daily visits from a small herd of red deer. The property itself is very comfortable, warm, clean and so well equipped for household and outdoor interests. A thoughtful welcome basket of quality local produce was provided and much appreciated. Our second visit and we would happily return. Brilliant - Thank you!

We have booked our holidays for the last six years with wilderness cottages the service and care have always been five stars with have already booked with them for 2027. Sealight is delightful house this was our fifth stay and it still seems as magical as our first visit.
Tor Cottage
This was the most wonderful cottage. Highly recommend. Amazing views, comfortable clean and modern house. We look forward to a return visit!
Leachachan Cottage
We had a really wonderful week in Leachachan Cottage. The cottage itself is beautifully situated, and in about 20 years of renting holiday cottages in Scotland, we thought it was the best in terms of general quality. It's been renovated beautifully, and we really enjoyed seeing photos of the transformation being carried out. It's very well equipped - it had everything we needed for our stay (including sharp knives which made a pleasant change!). We went kayaking from the shore and my husband did some fishing. And there are some lovely walks right from the doorstep. But the most magical thing was the wildlife. We had Pine Martens and badgers visiting every night, we saw an otter and seals in the bay and a White Tailed Eagle fishing not that far from the house. We could also hear stags roaring as the rut had started. The fish farm was closer to the house than we'd expected but we didn't notice it much once we were settled in and enjoying everything the cottage and area had to offer. We will return!

The Granary
Another great stay at The Granary . Can't fault the place and Mairi , the proprietor, is more than accommodating if you have a problem or need to know anything. Spotlessly clean everywhere with exceptionally comfortable beds. Lovely very quiet central location. Ideal, can't wait to book another visit
Stoer Lodge
The location is fantastic, set above a very quiet beach. The house was well equipped and spotlessly clean, even underneath the beds. It is an old building with it's own quirks and creaky floorboards, and there is only one bathroom, which may be an issue for larger groups. The fridge although clean, was missing a few shelves and some of the windows wouldn't open. A little bit of repair/refurbishment is needed in places e.g. broken curtain pole and splitting the bathroom to get an extra toilet would be great. Having said all that, we had a lovely time in Stoer Lodge.
Wilderness Cottages Replied...
Thank you for your feedback on your stay at Stoer Lodge. The owners are closing Stoer Lodge for renovations from the end of October 2026 - March 2027 and will be replacing the kitchen and all windows in the living room, with remodelling to include 2 new sea facing picture windows in the living room.
Bothy Cotain
We enjoyed our week in this cosy cottage, it is in a lovely location with fabulous views. We loved watched the sunset through the windows. It was clean and warm and had everything we needed. The owner was available if we had any questions.
Lewie's Croft
We stayed at Lewies Croft for nine days at the end of September, and it was a magnificent trip. The home sits at the tip of a peninsula in northwest Scotland. The best way to do Lewies is without time constraints and knowing you're on a road trip that rivals anything in the world. Lewies is in the town of Cove, bordered by Loch Ewe and the Minch, the stretch of sea between the mainland and the Hebrides. It's wonderfully remote. The house itself is stylish and well built, and it makes a perfect base for day trips across the Northern Highlands. Every drive led somewhere breathtaking. Our favorites, Castle Leod, seat of the Clan Mackenzie, with a private tour. A must for anyone who loves Highland history. Pool House and Inverewe Garden in Poolewe, just 8 miles away. The Arctic Convoy history and the gardens on Loch Ewe make an easy, rewarding day. The Applecross peninsula via the Bealach na Ba, one of the most dramatic drives in Scotland, returning along the quiet coast road. Eilean Donan Castle, best late in the day after the tour buses leave. Ullapool, with dinner at The Dipping Lugger, a tiny and unforgettable dining room. Corrieshalloch Gorge, where a suspension bridge hangs over the Falls of Measach. Dining around Loch Torridon and Gairloch, including 1887 at The Torridon, a three-rosette restaurant in a Victorian shooting lodge beneath the mountains, plus Shieldaig Lodge and The Badachro Inn. We had an amazing hike to the Bone Caves. We got back to the car as the sun was setting, and we saw two large groups of Red Deer, with stags roaring in the rut, on the drive back to Lewies. The house has several bedrooms, but my wife and I had it to ourselves and it was ideal for two. It was stocked with everything we needed, so all we had to bring was groceries. I'm already wishing we were back for another romantic evening in front of the fireplace. Highly recommend.
Croft Cabin
Croft Cabin is a little beauty! It manages to tick so many boxes. The decor is contemporary and fresh, the kitchen is really well kitted out, the place is spotless, the views to the hills and the duck pond are lovely, it is peaceful and the owner is very welcoming. Great location if you enjoy walking in the countryside as there's plenty of options from the doorstep. It is also a very short walk to the amenities in Fort Augustus. Would highly recommend!
Upper Folds
Just stayed for a week at Upper Folds....WOW....wanted to stay for a few years and a change of car made it possible. It is everything and more. Visitors return year after year. Cannot get a better recommendation than that. Quite an experience the peace and total privacy down a track. Outstanding views from house and garden. The owners have created such an interesting cottage and take such pride in keeping Upper Folds immaculate. Lots to see in the area and wonderful walks just outside the garden so you don't even have to leave the cottage (stock up with food) just unwind and enjoy. Thank you.
Appletree Studio
The Appletree Studio was everything my partner and I hoped, and more. Set in the most incredible location, this building offers magnificent views of Torridon's dramatic landscape when you throw open the curtains in the morning - it's a truly breathtaking place and you get the feeling you are truly in the wilderness. This is the perfect base from which you can explore Applecross and the surrounding area, and we both agreed we've never been anywhere better to wind down and chill, away from civilisation. The studio itself is very well equipped, with an excellent kitchen complete with all the kitchenware you'll need to cook even very elaborate meals, plus some basic cooking ingredients like oil, seasonings, flour etc. (and ice already in the freezer, which is surprisingly rare for a rental!). The space was also very clean and had a really cosy feel with the electric fire (which is also a heater) and telly with access to Fire TV. The studio is around half an hour from Applecross to the south and Shieldaig to the east, and we would highly recommend stocking up on all previsions at a supermarket near Inverness (or at the last big town you travel through). While there local stores in Applecross and Shieldaig, the closest shop of any decent size is an hour away in Locharron (a Co-op-sized Spar). It's very clear Jennifer has tried her utmost to think of everything guests would possibly need, even in the case of a power cut - the attention to detail is second to none. Thank you for a fantastic stay and we hope to return at some point!
Fearnmore Church
Fearnmore Church is quite possibly the nicest cottage I've ever stayed in. French windows in both the kitchen and living area open out onto the most beautiful view of mountains and sea. Wildlife comes right up to the steps to eat whatever nuts or seeds you put out for them. The fire is easy to light and draws beautifully. The double-height living area lifts the soul while the bedroom in mezzanine is warm and cosy. Situation-wise, the cottage is well placed for local walks on the peninsula and its beaches, and a good base for exploring further afield (Torridon, Ullapool, Skye). The locals are unfailingly courteous and friendly and there's a strong sense of community. I'd recommend the cottage to anyone seeking both peace and adventure.
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
We have had an amazing stay at the Lock Keepers Cottage, the cottage has everything we needed, sitting in the conservatory watching the boats go through the lock was great, we.also went on the canal with our friends Kayak, such a great way to travel down the canal, My husband did some fishing , caught a few so he was happy and being close to Fort Augustus just made it an excellent choice, the fish and chips were so tasty, thank you
Coorie
Coorie was fab! Wonderful location, tranquil but easy to access local amenities. Stunning, ever changing views across the water to the mainland and the mountains beyond, perfect to enjoy every moment due to the huge glass windows of Coorie. The house was perfect for the two of us. Spotless, bright and light on the dullest days and full of sunshine on others. Comfy bed, excellent shower and everything we needed in the kitchen where we enjoyed cooking and then eating watching the changing view. We enjoyed the easy to use log burner on the chillier evenings. Contact with the housekeeper was easy and there was a useful handbook for the house. Armadale is a lovely community with an excellent grocery store and some lovely galleries. A good restaurant at the nearby hotel and some fab walks around and about. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.
Leachachan Cottage
Leachachan cottage is lovely and in such a beautiful area along a single track road with many passing places. The cottage has been sympathetically restored to probably better than its former glory. The views are superb and it was such a pleasure looking out at Loch Duich and the 5 sisters each day. The weather as always was changeable but that just added to the atmosphere. The cottage is very clean and well equipt with most of the things that you would need and the goodies that were left were much appreciated. Most nights we were visited by several Pine Martins and a badger to hoover up the nuts we left on the back door step. If we get the opportunity we will certainly stay again.
Ardbeg
What can I say about Ardbeg... Wow!!!! What an amazing cottage with the most amazing views. Very well equipped with everything you need.
Bothy Cotain
I booked a week in this bothy expecting great things having seen the pictures, but nothing prepared me for the beauty and joy that I found on arrival. It is very well appointed: a lot of thought has gone into the design: the fresh white sheets and the fluffy towels, everything you need in the kitchen - and everything worked! After a day of walking in the driving rain the warmth from the underfloor heating embraced me as I opened the door, and the lovely, soft, peaty water was always hot and plentiful. The welcome basket, especially the excellent wine, was a winner - I hadn't had time to buy anything for the first evening. I went to the village shop where I found everything for the week and had a nice chat with the owner. Everyone I met was friendly; I never felt like a tourist and I was never lonely. The Applecross area is truly stunning with some of the best views in the Highlands, the friendliest people and excellent food in pubs and cafes. The weather (it was mid September) was changeable; I often sat outside in the evening looking at the mountains of Skye or walking on Sand beach at low tide. It is with confidence that I can strongly recommend Bothy Cotain.
Udrigle House
A fabulous house in a fabulous location! For a family holiday; golden beach, clean sea, country walks and food store all close at hand.
Appletree Studio
Really comfortable and well equipped holiday house, with beautiful grounds and stunning views. Very helpful host and friendly local community in Applecross. We have an EV and found good charging options in Lochcarron and Torridon, as well as good local stores but of course bring most of what you need - although the host thoughtfully provided some basics in the kitchen and bathroom. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet and/or active (walking, cycling) break.
Earth House
Two fabulous weeks at Earth House.. the peace and quiet and view from the house is what keeps us coming back. Earth House is always very clean and welcoming ..thank you to the owners Donald and Joanna. A mixed bag of weather but this year we did the Puffin-along Boat trips in Gairloch .. fabulous experience seeing 4 sea eagles and numerous seals. Also check out on a Wednesday 2pm to 4om at the Old school House in Inverasdale.. volunteers serve the most amazing cakes and tea for a donation.. We will be back in the future to Earth House and this very special part of Scotland.
Port Elgol Cottage
A lovely cottage in a remote lace. Nicely maintained. Had everything we needed. Would happily stay there again
The Old Post Office
Four of us stayed at The Old Post Office for a week. I can honestly say it's one of the finest cottages I've stayed in - and I've stayed in a lot. There is nothing that we wanted for and everything that was provided was perfect - right down to the brilliant chopping knives! The wood burner is such a delight and makes for cosy nights in. But that view! It is nothing short of astonishing. Wilderness Cottages contacted us before we arrived and mentioned that one of the showers needed a bit of work - it was carried out very quickly and without fuss and we were kept up to date at all times. And to be frank - we wouldn't have noticed the very minor problem anyway. But it shows they are really on the ball. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Old Post Office and Wilderness Cottages. We WILL be back!
The Coltsfoots
Fabulous stay, the cabin is warm and comfortable with everything you need for home from home. The location is very peaceful yet only a short walk to the canal in Fort August, would definitely return.
Braehead Steading
We had a lovely stay at Braehead Steading. The accommodation is large, well appointed and very comfortable. Bedding and towels are pristine. It is also very warm. Views from the living room are stunning.
The Stables
This was our second booking through Wilderness Cottages and each one has been excellent unlike other agencies. The Stables was excellently presented and ideally situated to explore the area. 10 out of 10
Leachachan Cottage
We had a wonderful holiday at Leachachan. The cottage is really lovely, spotlessly clean with fabulous views. We saw the pine marten every evening and also the badger. We put trail cams out because the badger came later in the evening after we had gone to bed. We saw seals and sea otters in the loch and also red deer hiding in the trees across the road from the cottage. On our last night we put the trail cams near the picnic bench and a red deer was filmed there too. This is an ideal place if you like wildlife, peace and quiet, spectacular views, kayaking and walking. We visited Skye which isn't too far away and had a boat trip from Portree. We saw Minke whales, ref deer and sea eagles. A truly memorable holiday.
Calluna Cottage
Calluna Cottage is lovely. Very cosy and warm when the weather gets a bit wild! Beautifully furnished to a very high standard. Particularly liked the comfortable bed as it is quite unusual to find a decent bed in self catering accommodation. The cottage was well equipped and spotlessy clean. We had a great week and certainly enjoyed the daily appearance of the stags. Loved the butchers in Stornoway (Charles Macleod) I will be making a regular online order for the black pudding!
Shore Cottage
Our holiday was the best. The cottage booked with wilderness cottages. Was everything it was advertised. Very remote quiet no cars, just mother nature and a beautiful beach. On a good day looking through binoculars Northern Ireland was very visible, while sitting on the patio having a cool glass of wine. The Farmer kept us in free range eggs whilst there. This cottage and surrounding area are benefitted when you have a dog. Our labrador enjoyed a log walk and swim on the beach each morning. And for food Port patrick is a short distance away. Where we enjoyed the cuisine on the menus. We will definitely be returning.
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
We found the cottage easy to find from the instructions given to us. The position of the cottage was amazing just next to the loch. All manner of boats came passed the sun lounge windows most giving a cheery wave. The cottage was very clean and it was nice to have a full log basket at our disposal. Although we didn't make use of it. For the four of us maybe an investment in good mattress toppers would solve a lumpy mattress issue. The garden was fenced properly and we had no escapees it was a delight just to open the door and for the dog to be free. Our dogs are assistant dogs so they cherished a non training week. The stairs are a little tight so if like me you have mobility issues it would be worth checking them out pre booking. We stayed in the downstairs bedroom so not a problem for us. Would we stay at the Old Loch keepers cottage again - in a heart beat .

The Granary
2nd visit to The Granary in little over a year, which itself a good endorsement. The property is very comfortable, tastefully designed with good amenities. Great base to explore the region and a short walk into the village. Highly recommended.
Beach Lodge
This was our 2 nd visit here, we all loved it , the remoteness , peace & quiet, the house was lovely well equipped & very clean , the land lady phoned to ask if everything was ok , nothing was too much trouble, the dogs loved the beach , the cabin was also very nice as my niece & partner stayed in there , everything was excellent, thank you so very much , wish we could have stayed longer. Well worth a visit & telling other family members & friends about it .

Seascape Cottage
We had a lovely week at Seascape Cottage even though the weather tried to throw all sorts at us! The cottage is extremely cosy and even when the wind is blowing and the rain sheeting down there is a feel of total comfort. The cottage is well equipped with plenty of cooking utensils and serving dishes. Sarah was very welcoming and on hand without being intrusive. The welcome pack was one of the best we've ever received. The fact the bay is literally just down the lane from the cottage was great for our dog and we spent a lot of time beachcombing and just taking in the total solitude. It was lovely.
Balachladdich
Fabulous week at this lovely house . We loved being surrounded by countryside and the lovely views across the Cromarty Firth were stunning . The house has everything you could possibly need, a real homely feel . Ideal place to travel around which we did . The local Dalmore farm shop was great for lots of things from food to gifts . A really lovely part of the world . We highly recommend a stay in this lovely house . We hope to return in the future .

We didn't want to leave! Beautiful views, a wonderful place to be (despite the poor weather). A great kitchen to cook in without being separated from either your partner or the views. And a piano to play when it was raining too much to do anything else (with some sheet music appropriate to my no-piano-practice-for-40-years status!). A spot that really has it all. Left with a profound love of West Ross (& a rekindled love of the piano!) . Thank you

Sealight
This house has it all. It really is a home from home. Beautiful view, very comfortable, warm, extremely well stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook. Great cooker and fridge. Lovely hot powerful shower. Just cannot fault a thing. It is beautifully built, and the love and care that has gone into everything really shows. The housekeepers do a great job too as it's always immaculate. Pine martens visit the deck every night for their dinner, which is wonderful entertainment. It's very peaceful, an antidote to the mad world and a haven of tranquility. Lots of wildlife , great walks, lovely people.

Leachachan Cottage
We had a relaxing stay at this lovely cottage. It was warm and comfortable with lots of windows and light. We didn't miss having a TV but were refreshed by time to talk, relax and read when not drinking in the spectacular views which are outstanding. We were captivated by the ever changing views of the mountains and weather patterns. The highlight of the day was the evening visits of the pine marten and sometimes a badger. We didn't see any sea otters but saw seals in the bay, deer on the shore and even a mountain goat as we left. We would love to return for a visit another time.
Toberaie
I've spent a week in Toberaie, on my own. Longing to this wonderful landscape Cairngorms. Toberaie was for me a perfect base for my bicycle trips and hikes. And I loved the cottage; the full view of the flowering Heather all around, the foraging Fox and the grazing deer in the field. It is magic! All you need to feel at home is available including a cozy woodfire in the evening. I've experienced a deep dive in nature and I'm so grateful! Thanks for a very special week. I will certainly come back.
Oak Cottage
Spotless cosy cottage in an idyllic setting. Ideally situated for hiking Munros and the Rob Roy Way or simply relaxing & viewing the wildlife in the cottage garden. Feeders attract a whole host of birds including woodpeckers & finches and a very cute frequent red squirrel. There's even a resident Pine Marten according to recent reviews. Super accommodating hosts with a few extra welcome treats thrown in made our stay one of the best.
Stoer Lodge
We had a great stay at Stoer Lodge, very efficiently arranged through Wilderness Cottages. The staff at Wilderness are really friendly and helpful and made the whole process of booking easy. The house was as described and just what we wanted.
