In total we have received 5535 reviews from guests, of which 97% have ranked their stay as Very Good or Excellent.
Sometimes guests do have problems and we work alongside our owners to ensure they are rectified as soon as possible. It's in our interest to do so as we want you to return to Wilderness Cottages for your next Scottish holiday as many of our guests do, year on year.
Stablemans Lodge
We were lucky enough to stay here for the week in September thanks to the staff at wilderness cottages. Just as the Autumn colours were starting to come in and the forest floor was turning amber, we scored with a week of brilliant weather! The accommodation is less than a minutes walk from the forest. Amazing for a stroll or a run. The accommodation was well equipped for everything that one needs for a break away. The bed was comfortable and the fire place was a treat. We had a lovely night sitting in the bbq hut by the fire making food with a glass of wine or three. The pies in the pub next door were also a hit. Wendy and Simon were amazing hosts and provided us with fantastic places to go for cold water swimming, walks and runs in the local area. Nothing seems to be too much of a bother for them. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We will be back for sure!
The Stables
Stayed at The Stables in Crail for 1 week. Very interestingly renovated to a comfy, quiet and well equipped house for a couple. Perfect base for exploring the East Neuk. 1min to shops, plenty parking options and friendly shop staff and neighbours. Highly recommend.
Seascape Cottage
A wonderful place to spend a holiday. It's so peaceful and tranquil with an ever-changing view over the sea. The cosy cottage has everything you could ever need and the lovely host, Sarah, left a welcome hamper which was much appreciated and enjoyed, especially the fresh eggs from her hens. We thoroughly recommend Seascape Cottage and Curtis recommends running on the beach.
Leachachan Cottage
Leachachan Cottage is our no 1 location from now on, and weve visited so many places,(no jokes). Situated in one of the most picturesque location in Scotland. The Mountain views were out of this world. The wildlife was just on our doorstep(literally...), Pine Marten was visiting every day!If you are both mountain& nature lovers, this is your place, dont think twice, visit ,stay and get the most of your time up here!We are already booked for next year, taking no chances!!!!The cottage itself has an incredible feel of warmth, dedication and probably years of preparation. The input of hard work and well thought design is clearly visible so that we(guests)can relax and enjoy ourselves fully! Ps Massive thanks to Fann for she was very helpful and whenever we needed her, she was at the other end of the phone with advice or answer. May your business prosper well, you truly deserve it! Regards Pattie&Anna
Campbell House
A house full of history and character set in a wonderful location. This was our second stay this year and once aga8n most enjoyable. We also had a Pine Martin in the back garden for company. A hospitality tray was provided and appreciated. Campbell House and Sheildaig provide an excellent base to explore this part of Wester Ross. We would recommend Nanny's Cafe, The Walled Garden and the Whistle Stop cafe.
Eilean Mor Cottage
Wonderful ! Beautifully clean and everything required for a relaxing stay . Recommended as very handy for touting the north end . Sad to leave , but delighted to book again .
Sealight
Very caring service when we arrived there was a power cuts but wilderness contacted us to check that we were safe and offered assistance. Wilderness are a very customer focused from booking your reservation to arriving. would have no hesitation in recommending Wilderness Cottages already booked for 2026 .
South Lodge
Watched 2 badgers playing in the garden last night, from around 9pm. Scatter some peanuts if you would like to see them.
Red Kite Log Cabin
A fantastic location in a fantastic cabin. Everything was perfect and the owners were great. Highly recommended.
Ardbeg
Ardbeg is a fantastic place to stay, it has all the amenities you could wish for. Peace and tranquility were to the forefront, but with all modern appliances. Lots of wildlife, pine martens visiting, deer on the lawn. Lots of walks and interesting and fun things to do 8n the area. Last but not least, the views from the balcony are stunning, and as it faces west, you will never see better sunsets.
The Old Post Office
The Old Post Office was an amazing and lovely house to stay at. You can sit and watch the view to the beach all day. The house was spotlessly clean and had all facilities you needed for your visit. We arrived at the start of 'Storm Amy' which was exciting but you felt safe and warm in the house. The scenery in the area is spectacular. We really didn't want to leave!
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
We have just returned home from our stay at this really super cottage in a delightful location. I don't think we have ever stayed anywhere where so much was provided in the weekly package. A genuine thank you in appreciation to the owners. Watching the boats, from small to really huge(ocean going size) pass through the lock is mesmerising. After storm Amy our arrival was delayed by a day as the cottage was without water or electricity but our thanks to cleaning staff as it was spic and span on our arrival although the cottage phone and Wifi was unavailable and still off when we left today although didn't cause a problem to us. We really rate wilderness cottage staff and would also rate them 5*. Thanks
The Granary
Very comfortable and well-appointed cottage in a quiet but easily accessible location. Thank you to Mairi for being a very friendly and helpful host, as well as for the treats on our arrival.
Upper Stewarton
Well, what the other reviews say is entirely true. This is a wonderfully decorated cottage in a unique and stunning location. Driving in the first time is astonishing. The owner is also very helpful and generous which is an additional delight. We loved it
Earth House
We had a wonderful week's stay at the Earth House. We arrived just before Storm Amy and had a front row view of the stormy seas over the weekend - just amazing. The location is absolutely brilliant for bird watching and we were also lucky enough to see otters fishing on a couple of days. The Earth House itself is very special place & such a thoughtful design; we absolutely loved staying there. One of us is a wheelchair user and the house being all on one level made our stay very easy. We ordered supplies from the very helpful Laide Stores and enjoyed the fresh fish van that comes in a Tuesday. Did I mention the awesome views across Gruinard Bay?! With the ever changing light & stunning scenery it is an artists paradise. We have already booked another week for next year.
Lilybank
Wilderness Cottages were great to deal with! We were coming over from the US to Scotland for the first time, and on a whim decided to book with Wilderness. Found the PERFECT place in Fort Augustus, and all the directions and communications from Wilderness were spot on. I even had a bit of trouble using their links to make payment and they were able to help me with that. I hope to book with them again in the near future.
High Tor House
High Tor House is a wonderful location, just outside Tarbert toward Scalpay. The views are phenomenal and the house is very comfortable, has a well appointed, modern interior. All you could ask for in terms of cleanliness, cooking equipment, comfy beds, spacious living area, washer and dryer. I would certainly stay there again.
Charleston
Another lovely time at Charleston. Always spotless and well presented with amazing views. Our new dog was in her element in the safe garden. Lovely to watch a small herd of deer grazing in the surrounding fields. A little scary when Storm Amy rolled up. Being alone on the hill the winds roared and heavens opened but all part of the experience. Looking forward to our next visit!
Upper Folds
We have stayed at Upperfolds quite a few times and it is, without a doubt, the very best property we have ever stayed in. We consistently have fantastic holidays there. It is peaceful, beautiful and perfect in every way. It is a little bit of heaven right here on earth.
Ceol na Mara
A lovely cottage with an amazing view of the beach right outside the lounge window. The cottage was warm, clean, well equipped and the bed was very comfy. I think if 4 guests stayed you'd find the kitchen very cramped with the put up table. Its a great spot to do the scenic NC500 route to Applecross - a real experience. Only negative really was the limited parking (layby gets full and there really is nowhere else nearby) and the very narrow, rocky track down to the cottage, which was tricky to negotiate in pouring rain.
Upper Stewarton
In nearly 50 years of self-catering holidays we can honestly say that this is the nicest cottage, location and host we have experienced. It's within easy reach of Peebles yet remote enough to forget civilisation, surrounded by gorgeous scenery, has great walks from the door and is well equipped, clean and cosy. It's beautifully decorated, with interesting and unique features and comfortable furniture. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this exceptional cottage and to have met Brendon who has created something very special here. Will we return? Absolutely!!
Rhundunan
An amazing place to stay. Very comfortable and cosy. Kitchen well equipped. Views amazing. Well worth the price of accommodation. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Ceol na Mara
Beautiful cottage with all the comforts to make for a great stay - warm, well furnished, clean and cosy.
Leachachan Cottage
The perfect cottage in the perfect location. There are no negatives about this place, it is absolutely magnificent. The accomodation is spotlessly clean and feels brand new and perched on the side of the loch with fantastic views of The Five Sisters of Kiintail. This place is so comfortable and Fann and Murdoch have paid attention to every little detail. This was our second visit and it won't be our last.
Hill Cottage
This cottage very rapidly became our personal little piece of heaven on earth. The view was absolutely breathtaking. I loved just sitting in the garden and listening to the sound of nature without any noise of "modern civilisation". The house was also amazing. Big kitchen, very comfy sofa and chairs in the lounge and a comfortable bed. Also, great WiFi. We will be back!!!
Seal Skerry Lodge
We have stayed at Seal Skerry previously, and just as before it is a fabulous house in a fantastic location with immersive views: seals seen on the skerry below every day. Our stay at Seal Skerry was very relaxing with much of the attractions of north Skye very accessible. Our dog also seemed to enjoy the stay in an enclosed garden which he was safe to roam and explore. Hopefully we will be back soon.
Beach Lodge
A true remote experience Love beach lodge and its location
Bothy Cotain
Beautiful cosy cottage tastefully refurbished to a high standard. Very quiet and relaxing with stunning views.
The Coltsfoots
This was our 5th stay at The Coltsfoot and it was perfect. This log cabin is so comfortable, spotlessly clean and so well equipt and set in such a peaceful setting its our favourite place in the Highlands. We hope to return again soon.
Victoria Cottage
Beautiful cottage and spotlessly clean. Stunning location. Not many places you can watch Sea Eagles from the dining room table. Would definitely stay again.
The Coltsfoots
What a great place to stay. One of the best we have stayed in. The lodge was so clean and well presented. Beds very comfy. Great power showers. The lodge was so well equipped with everything we needed. The outside covered seating area was a bonus. Gordon and his wife were so friendly and made our stay extra special. A big thank you for the extras left for us on arrival. A 10 minute walk took us into Fort Augustus. The Lodge was so quiet and peaceful and hope to return again in the future. Thank you again for everything that made our holiday so special.
South Lodge
Had a lovely week at South Lodge, location was as described and was lovely to wake up to those amazing views and have peace and quiet. Our greyhound love running round the garden so he's had a ball too. Lots to see on the west coast my favourite being Isle of Arran and just outside kilberry village seeing the seals at the waters edge was a treat. Only minor feedback the oven time is hard to follow as numbers don't fully show but still managed to cook with the well equipped kitchen! Thanks for a lovely holiday !
Matheson's Croft House
We had a very peaceful and restful week at Matheson's Croft House and felt very comfortable in the house. Cooking with the Rayburn proved to be an art form, having never used one before. However, we did get there and the heat, even on a low setting, was sufficient to keep us cosy and warm and we were able to dispense with the microwave. This property has a great 'loo with a view', our bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. The only downside for us is that the garden has grown a lot and so does obscure some of the loch views from the house (not from upstairs), but this is something that could soon be sorted. Easy to get to Skye and lots of interesting places to visit and walk in the area.
Seal Skerry Lodge
We stayed at 2 cottages on our fortnight in Skye Both were in stunning locations with amazing views. The accommodation was comfortable and the kitchens well equipped Happy to recommend to anyone looking for a holiday that really does get you away from it all!
Udrigle House
We enjoyed a great week in this unique house. It was comfy and warm and good to return to after a day walking. The owners were very helpful and on hand. We were lucky to see otters and a white tailed eagle from the garden; the views across the bay towards mountains were sublime. We found lots of walks within 20 miles or so and loved the area's beautiful beaches. Thanks to the McKenzies
Ceol na Mara
Great stay as usual so have immediately booked again for next year. Perfect cottage by the sea
Seahorses
We had a wonderful and unforgettable time there. I am still amazed by how beautiful the view is! I love the Scottish countryside, and this place has become one of my favourites. Everything was comfortable and convenient.
Strone
The cottage was well kitted out in all areas. In particular the kitchen as we always cook our own meals. We rarely go out. We felt the sitting room a bit "cold". A rug and some bright prints would have helped. The cottage gives easy access to Glen Affric which was the main reason we hired it. But it also gives easy access to Inverness, Fort Augustus or Fort William if the weather is poor. It should be noted that the bus stop is 200 yards from the house next to Urquhart Castle. Saves using the car to these places. Overall, very happy with our time in Strone.
Braehead Steading
Our first visit to Braehead and we were not disappointed. The Steading is stunning, a beautiful comfy home for a relaxing holiday. The home was immaculate and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you might need. The rooms were all very comfortable and it has a beautiful large garden. ( I did miss having a bird table to watch ) The house is less than 5 minutes drive to Ballater and located in the Cairngorms national park offers many places to visit. Aberdeen is only 40 miles away and Stonehaven with its stunning beaches and Dunnatar castle is only just over an hour away. Balmoral castle and Braemar castle are 10 minutes from the Steading. Enjoyed watching the house martins daily and the neighbours geese who visited every morning. Thank you to the owner Graham who was so kind and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay, hope to return again soon. Thanks again to Wilderness cottages, always so helpful.
Cedar Cottage
Our 5th visit to this gem of a cottage. The cottage was immaculate on arrival as usual , thank you for the lovely welcome pack. The cottage is perfect, sitting at the end of a forest track, so quiet and peaceful yet 20 minutes drive to the stunning town of Forres with its amazing floral displays. The bird table was very busy and sitting at the patio table watching the red squirrels so close is amazing. Only saw the pine marten a couple of times sadly. You are spoilt for choice with all the stunning beaches within a short drive. Too many to mention ! Museums, castles, old ruins are in abundance, always somewhere new to visit. Plus plenty of walks surrounding the cottage and a bit farther afield too. Thanks to the lovely ladies at Wilderness who are always so helpful . We'll be back.
The Challey at Heathcote
Another cosy stay at the Challey. Still lots to see and do in the area, the Challey makes an ideal base. Thank you.
The Granary
From the booking to leaving everything was perfect. The Granary is an excellent cottage in Drumnadrochit. Our hosts Mairi and Paul were friendly and the cottage had everything we needed. Our 4th visit there and we will return again
The Old Post Office
What a stunning renovation to the old house and so well equipped. Who would not want to wake up to a view like that?
Applecross Manse
A lovely, beautiful, quirky house. Even when we had a minor problem, everyone was very helpful and Harvey was there within 1/2 hour. Brilliant. Great wildlife in the garden. Great place to stay.
Cala
We had a wonderful stay in Cala. It is a calm, comfortable house to stay in - with the most stunningly mesmerising views from the huge windows. It is well equipped and sparkly clean. It is remote - and we did pick up staple supplies for the first couple of days in Ullapool - but Drumbeg Stores just a couple of miles up the road from Nedd is an absolute gem and we found everything we needed there for the rest of our stay. Wilderness Cottages were, as always, friendly and efficient to book through. A fabulous holiday - thank you
Port Elgol Cottage
Excellent relaxing week spent at the superb Port Elgol Cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed the location and well appointed cottage which provided lovely cosy refuge from the worst of the weather we encountered between the good spells.
Seascape Cottage
If you want a beach literally right in front of you, stay here! Watch the sun drop into the sea and just chill out. Perfect, wildlife stunning. Very comfortable indeed.
White-Tail Croft
We had a wonderful week at the white tail cottage. It was always nice to return to the cottage after a day out. The cottage is very well equiped and all is to a high standard. And what a view from the windows! Internet was working very well. Thanks for the welcome package!
North Lodge
The lodge was blissfully warm on arrival. Just what is needed after a long journey. As is being well equipped and comfortable. Beautiful peaceful setting with frequent sightings of deer.
Port Elgol Cottage
Stunning location! and staying at Port Elgol really felt like staying in a much loved and cared for holiday home. Lots of character, but also very well equipped and comfortable. Whatever the weather (we had rain & sun in unequal measure!), the view out over the harbour always had interest with boats to-ing and fro-ing. A boat trip is a 'must' and meal at Elgol Bistro 'a delight'. Thank you to Elgol's owners (K&R) for a wonderful stay.
