Charleston
Amazing property in superb location. Lovely hosts, we've already booked again next year!
Seahorses
Over the years we gave stayed in a number of holiday rentals in Assynt, but Seahorses beats them all. Fantastic location and views, and incredibly well appointed. There was even a first aid kit for dogs! It is a real home from home, a house which, though relatively recent, has a soul. I could have spent hours simply contemplating the scenery or, in typical Assynt weather, working my through the extremely comprehensive choice of books and DVDs. Our congratulations to the owners for their their attention to detail and to their guests' wellbeing. Thanks too to Rachel the caretaker for maintaing a high standard of cleanliness. Simply the best.
Charleston
Our second stay at this fabulous cottage. The cottage is very well equipped and was immaculate on arrival. The views from the Cottage are stunning, both loch and mountain views. It's lovely to watch the ever changing skies from dawn to dusk. Had some amazing sunsets. The ewes and their lambs surrounding the cottage provided lots of entertainment. Deer were seen most days in the fields around the cottage. Hares visited every night. And overhead Red kites soared as they were hunting every day, we even had a golden eagle and osprey. The cottage is close to Fort Augustus and Inverness, which gives the opportunity to visit many places. Castles, lochs, forests and churches. Sad to leave this amazing cottage, it's like home from home. So comfortable. Thank you ladies at Wilderness cottages, booking was done very efficiently, as always. We've been using Wilderness cottages for 18 years , a pleasure to deal with. Lovely to meet Iain the owner of the cottage, thank you for the welcome pack of biscuits and beverages. We'll be back
Cedar Cottage
We had another fantastic holiday with Wilderness Cottages, and Cedar Cottage was perfect in every way. The cottage is immaculate and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. After a drive along the forest tracks, you soon come across this lovely cottage with its large well kept garden, which was a haven for lots of wildlife. We had a brilliant week and hope to return.
South Lodge
Had a wonderful week, in the perfect location to unwind and relax. Cottage has everything you need and was very comfortable. Lots of walking from the cottage and Tarbert is not too far away for any supplies and has a good range of local shops. Malachy and Heather were both very helpful with any queries. This was our second visit and will definitely be back!
Aultmore
The house is modern, stylish and built to the highest standards. It is true to the pictures shown on the website and offers plenty of space, every amenity and terrific views of the sea and the highlands. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Ceol na Mara
This was a very comfortable cottage, having everything you could want for your stay. It was in an amazing location, looking out over the Loch, with views of Skye on the horizon. There was a good selection of restaurants and pubs with a little bit of driving and the Spar shop in Lochcarron was very well stocked. It would be hard to find something better.
Seahorses
wow, superb cottage with views that keep you spellbound, wildlife which we love was abundant, red deer in garden looking through patio, 2 badgers, golden eagles overhead and white tail eagle also regular over loch, the bird feeders attract around 17 types of bird and keeps you entertained as you make a coffee. House is superb, so comfy and spotlessly clean, beds comfy and showers just what you need after a day out whether near or far. Everything you need has been second guessed by the owners. the perfect "chillaxation" destination, I loved sitting at the outdoor white table in the evening watching the sea and loch for passing cetaceans having an ale or a wee dram. Would we return.. definite yes.
The Coltsfoots
Fourth time for us in this wonderful cabin..... we love it. It is everything you want from a holiday property.
Appletree Studio
We visit Scotland several times a year always staying in private Self Catering. After much searching looking for our next accommodation I found wilderness Cottages, communication/customer service with them has been 100% exceptional. Appletree has everything you could possibly need, the owner Jenny has thought of everything even down to providing beach towels and picnic ware for eating outside on the decking. The shower is wonderfully hot, the bed firm but comfortable, the kitchen equipt to cook a full meal and a comfortable living area. Wifi provided howver I did enable my VPN due to being a community wifi, but had no issues with this speed wise. Jenny has provided full information and leaflets for local exploration. The View ! its outstanding, a lovely deck at the rear to enjoy sea and mountain views, A patio to the front for garden views but head up to the top of the garden and the panoramic views out to sea and the mountains and islands beyond are amazing. By far one of our most favourite accommodations we have ever stayed so much so we re arranged our September Scotland holiday to return to to Appletree Studio.
North Lodge
The North Gate Lodge had everything we needed; it was perfect for relaxing. The dogs loved it. Sadly didn't see any red squirrels, but the deer, the variety of birdsong throughout the day made for a wonderful atmosphere. Located within easy travelling distance of Portpatrick; Sandhead and the local distilleries in Newtown Stewart - all in all it made a fabulous week of total relaxation. We'll definitely be returning soon.
Appletree Studio
We had a fantastic stay at Appletree Studio. It is a beautiful house and our host Jenny had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and with everything we would need. The house is set in the most wonderful location looking out over Loch Torridon and the mountains. Would thoroughly recommend Appletree Studio. Thank you Jenny.
Rhundunan
We enjoyed our return visit to Rhundunan after 12 years as much as the first time. The property is fully equipped and everything works well. Only constructive feedback is regarding the surface of the steep driveway which could do with reinforcing in a couple of places. Our car skidded a few times on the way up.
Port Elgol Cottage
I highly recommend Port Elgol Cottage! A beautifully located and well-equipped small holiday home where you can feel completely at ease. We were there for the second time and are again very enthusiastic!
Ceol na Mara
WOW ! what a charming comfy cottage right on the shores of Loch Kishorn . The views from the cottage are stunning. We watched traffic going up through the Applecross mountains from the garden. The Cuillins right in front of you on Skye. Perfect ! Loved to sit and watch the ebb and flow of the tides, so soothing and relaxing. Seals were regular visitors as were the group of stags that passed by every day right in front of the cottage. The cottage was immaculate, felt like home, loved it . Thank you for the welcome gift wine and cake. We were lucky enough to meet the lovely owner Florence and her husband as we were leaving. Sad to leave but hopefully will be back . Perfect . Also thanks to Judith, Julie and Jane at Wilderness Cottages who are always so helpful and efficient.
Seahorses
Returning visitor. Just as lovely as before. Beautiful well equipped cottage with stunning views. Highly recommend.
Learag
A lovely house with fantastic views. A really comfortable stay. Enjoyed all the wildlife. Will see you again soon.
The Stables
The Stables is perfectly situated in a beautiful part of the country, East Neuk of Fyfe. As we have stayed here before we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. Perfectly suitable for a couple. No parking available onsite however there is parking available nearby. Would definitely recommend
South Lodge
Such a lovely location. Our stay was marred by the very uncomfortable bed which made getting a good night's sleep impossible. We enjoyed the walks right from the door of the cottage, especially the one looking over to the mountains of Jura. If you're going with your dog, do make sure that they're up to date with their tick treatment. We needed to remove several ticks each day from our dog, including sometimes even when she'd just been out in the garden. We had one very still evening when we were bothered by midges in the evening, but were otherwise untroubled by them. The neighbouring house was having building works done during our stay - hours of drilling, sawing, banging and hammering so close to the house meant that we had to go out, even though we wanted to just read in the garden and enjoy the view.
Wilderness Cottages Replied...
Thank you for taking the time to provide a review on your stay at South Lodge, we are sorry to hear that you experienced issues that caused you to leave a 2 star rating. As Wilderness Cottages are the booking agents, we have contacted the owners to discuss your feedback. It is very important to the property owner, and to Wilderness Cottages, that guests enjoy their holiday, and we do ask that in the event of dissatisfaction with the property or if any problems arise, guests please contact the owner or Wilderness Cottages during their stay, so that the issues can be addressed at that time. The neighbouring property is privately owned, and the owner of South Lodge is unable to control any renovations the neighbours are carrying out. He has spoken with the neighbours and they are currently building a shed and were sorry for the disruption it caused you on the 2 days of your stay, when they were there carrying out the work. The owner had not been aware of any issues with the bed before your review. He will assess the bed when the next guests leave and rectify the problem.
Cedar Cottage
Had a great week at Cedar Cottage, the Cottage was a Home from Home, we will definitely sat again.
Coorie
A perfect retreat with wonderful views and a great location off the beaten track. Well equipped house with everything you could need and plenty to see and do nearby. Will definitely return.
The Old Post Office
Having spent many holidays in Clashnessie we feel so lucky to have found the Old Post Office. Such a wonderful renovation providing spectacular views over the bay. We can't wait to return.
Ceol na Mara
Coel Na Mara is an idyllic cottage on the shores of Loch Carron. Very well equipped, warm and welcoming, especially the wine and cake left by the owners! Lots of walks and points if interest in easy reach, especially Plockton and Skye. Wildlife round the cottage in abundance. There was a very minor problem, the owners were instantly accessible, and speedily put matters right.. I have been using this cottage for many years, and we certainly continue to do so
Seascape Cottage
Superb cottage in a great location, very welcoming and everything catered for. First visit here, can highly recommend. The welcome pack was amazing as were the fresh eggs throughout our stay. A great spot to get away from it all and watch the wildlife and ships at sea. First time here but we will be back.
White-Tail Croft
What a fantastic cottage!! As soon as we walked through the door, we were blown away by the view from the window. The facilities provided were excellent and the sauna was just what we needed after a day's walking. Portree is only a short drive away, where you can stock up with provisions or have a meal. Although the weather wasn't great while we were there, the changing views over the river were spectacular and really made up for it. It's funny how worried you get when you don't see the sheep and lambs for a while!!! The icing on the cake was seeing an eagle on the side of the road as we left on the final morning. Overall, a wonderful cottage in a great setting.
Bothy Cotain
Great location for exploring Applecross and Torridon area with fantastic views across to the isles. Bothy Cotain was fantastic accommodation with everything needed for a week away.
Beach Lodge
Stunningly beautiful & relaxing - a true escape. Can run out of superlatives to describe the unique setting of beach lodge- it has continued to hold its magic even after many visits over 30 years! Interior cosy and comfortable plus good quality sleeps! & good equipment& facilities Only negative is that the track down from the farmyard has deteriorated greatly (uneven camber/potholes/loose stones/ridges) & definitely requires driving with caution preferably with a 4 wheel drive to navigate - agree low suspension vehicles would have difficulty or damage
White-Tail Croft
We had an excellent stay at White Tail Croft 10th-24th May. We enjoyed perfect blue skies for 2 weeks and views of the Cuillin from the cottage and indeed from anywhere on the whole island with the fabulous weather. We eat outside every evening. White Tail Croft is the best equipped cottage we have stayed in during our numerous visits to Scotland and we visit a lot! It was so great to have great quality kitchen equipment, even Le Creuset tea and coffee pots and excellent corkscrew . Following our enquiry with Wilderness Cottages the owners provided a Ninja Stack Air Fryer which was so much appreciated and we used this daily . Other owners should take note and provide their guests with the kitchen equipment they would have at home as everything was thought of. Cushions and beach towels were provided for outside. The bath towels were excellent quality too. A very ECO property from the solar panels to car charger ( which was invaluable) another item other owners should take up) We went on the high speed aqua - marine boat trip from Elgin and saw dolphins, porpoise, seals, puffins and a minke whale that surfaced right in front of the boat. The lambs and rabbits kept us entertained at the Croft and we saw white tail eagles soaring high above. Thank you to Julie at Wilderness cottages who was excellent and to the owners for providing a home from home stay. I can also recommend the local walk up the aerials on a clear day . You can see for miles and miles, the Cuillin, Old man of Storr etc
Easter Knocklea Cottage
Fabulous dog friendly cottage in eastern Cairngorms. Stunning views, really well renovated and equipped (the pics do not do it justice) and spotlessly clean. Warm in bad weather (well insulated + good heating + abundant wood for fire) and lovely "sun room" and lawn terrace in good. Balmoral, Ballater just 30 mins away. Quiet and peaceful ...we hope to return and climb more hills.
Shore Cottage
We had a wonderful week in Shore Cottage and the beach to ourselves all week, it was bliss and so relaxing. Weather was perfect, cottage cosy and home from home and spotlessly clean. A world away from internet and work. Fantastic location and yes 4x4 transport for track is advised. We plan on returning and would like to book the weather too please! Thank you to the hosts & Wilderness Cottages.
The Challey at Heathcote
We just keep coming back...read into that what you will, but if you don't stay here then you are missing out!!
Eilean Mor Cottage
Cottage was well presented and had everything we needed. Great views onto loch Dunvegan made this a very pleasant stay and good base for trips each day. Out with the cottage , highland council really need to spend some money on the single track roads as in disrepair in many areas. Certainly not for those with a smaller low profile car. Apart from that would highly recommend a stay at this cottage.
Cedar Cottage
Cedar Cottage is the most perfect cottage in an idyllic location. It seems remote but isn't that for from Forres Tesco. Red Squirrels in the garden are a delight. The cottage is immaculate and the welcome pack was lovely.
The Granary
Had a lovely stay at the Granary. The cottage had everything you needed and more. Really clean and comfortable. Weather was great. 5 minute walk into Drumnadrochit. Mairi the owner was really helpful and friendly. A big thank you to her for the extras and making our stay so good.
Seascape Cottage
Lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage in fabulous position. Had a wonderful week in this remote, beautiful location and would highly recommend for a peaceful stay. Surrounded by a wide variety of birds, wildlife and masses of spring flowers.
Earth House
Delightful and as others have said quirky cottage, it was very clean and whoever looks after it does a thorough job. Views from the cottage were spectacular and we were fortunate as in the main had cloudless blue skies. Absolutely loved by the two dogs, Archie and Willow as they were able to play in the enclosed garden. Fortunately when we were there there were no sheep grazing along the shore line which allowed us even more freedom with them. On the whole though we found the area around Laide and Gruinard not great for walking dogs off the lead. We highly recommend the community woodland at Laide, the volunteers do sterling work even daily watering newly planted primroses so they wouldn't dry in the heat.
Balachladdich
5th year in a row, lovely place and house. Yet another great holiday
Learag
This is a superb holiday home. It's very comfortable and spacious for 4 people. The owners who live next door are very friendly. We were lucky with the weather we had and we were able to sit outside on the decking and enjoy the views and watching the red kites. There are lots of great places to visit on the Black Isle and further afield. We would recommend The Highland Farm Cafe near to Dingwall. Great food and views. We had such a comfortable and peaceful time here that we hope to come back.
Udrigle House
Thank you to all the team at Wilderness cottages and a special thank you to the owners Mr & Mrs McKenzie.
Learag
Superb property, one of the best we have ever stayed in.
Ardbeg
Beautifully kept accommodation. A central position in Gairloch with a wonderful view over the loch to Skye. Now been to Ardbeg six times and never found anything better. Friendly people and such amazing views everywhere..
Seascape Cottage
5th time staying in this lovely cottage and it never fails to satisfy us The hosts are delightful and always available to help if needed The location is enchanting ,with views to match anything the best Mediterranean enclaves have to offer
Shore Cottage
6 years in a row! Usual fantastic standard of cottage, nothing changes only for the better! Fabulous weather all week, still breathtaking scenery, beach, sea with long walks to re-charge. Thanks to the hosts for keeping so magical. perfect in all ways!
Callakille
What an idyllic haven, a touch of heaven on earth. Callakille is one of the loveliest & most well appointed cottages I've stayed in, comfortable and light filled, with a bathroom that is simply perfect overlooking the ocean, cosy bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Peter was so welcoming, everything was spotless and many lovely touches throughout the cottage. Breathtaking views whatever time of the day you looked out, but sunsets from the bedroom windows were a highlight at day's end, as were the hours just sitting on a simple wooden bench on the cliff overlooking the sea. Definitely will come back another year! Simply magical
The Challey at Heathcote
Well appointed chalet with everything you could possibly want for a couple. Superbly comfortable bedroom, lovely bathroom and kitchen with everything you could possibly need and also very peaceful. Excellent location for visiting distilleries and indeed the woollen mill. Convenient for Speyside Way as well. Position on Map is incorrect it's beside the last house on the road above where it is marked by Google. It's not in the station car park. Highly recommend it as somewhere to stay. Will go back again.
Seascape Cottage
We had an amazing stay at Seascape....it's a piece of heaven. Tranquil, beautiful scenery and right on the cove. There is plenty to see and visit in the area and the owners go above and beyond expectation! Highly recommended recommended
Achbeag
We loved our stay at Achbeag... was a wee bit tricky to find initially using the postcode as it covers a big area! Very cosy and well equipped cottage. Quite a remote location along single track roads. The scenery is stunning regardless of the weather. It would make for an amazing location with bikes as well. The birds were singing like mad, heard a first cuckoo. Lovely wild flowers. Friendly neighbour. Little lambs. Applecross Walled Garden!!
Ceol na Mara
A beautifully situated cottage by the water's edge. Coupled with astonishingly good weather, it really was idyllic. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable, had all that we required for the week. We were just a couple with a small dog and it was delightfully snug for us. However if there had been another two guests, occupying the second bedroom, the lack of space to put our own things could be an issue. The people living nearby, in Ardarroch and Achintraid, were very friendly and welcoming. Particular recommendations would be the village shop/garage in Lochcarron and the Kishorn Seafood Bar, also the Arctic Convoy Museum (a 2-hour drive north but well worth the effort) and the Barn Cafe at Big Sands Caravan & Camping site to the west of Gairloch (food and service magnificent!).
Ardbeg
A fantastic place and a great view, beautifully set up.
