Strone
Delightful place. On arrival, fresh flowers, a cake and a bottle of wine. The house was warm and comfortable, the location excellent. Did day trips to Glen Affric and the like. The little cafe down the hill Cafe 82 makes fantastic food and actually has good coffee. Discovered that one a bit late Due to a bit of movement, the door locks can be slightly annoying. Try lifting the door a bit - let turns easily then. Really pleasant stay. Lovely sunny days, had an aurora one evening and the birds were just coming out after the winter. Peaceful, relaxing and a stone's throw from shops when you discover you need an ingredient. Can't recommend highly enough.
Shore Cottage
This is an ideal location for peace and quiet. The track is difficult and there was obvious signs that a vehicle had lost its oil on the track after hitting a rock. The cottage has been greatly improved since our last visit in 2019 and upgrades to heating has made the cottage more cosy. The majority of the cottage was clean and tidy but the kitchen let it down. The table, microwave, trays, fridge etc were pretty grim, with obvious food debris and hairs from previous occupants. Kitchen cupboard doors need a simple wash down. I didn't clean these items and literally just cleaned what we used and kept our food in plastic bags. The addition of a large heater in the conservatory means the layout becomes awkward and the sofa has no real place and therefore makes using the patio doors difficult. A shame when money has been spent on the decking and outside furniture. This is probably our 8th visit to this property but the kitchen cleanliness is an issue. Surprised to see the cottage not as heavily booked as previous years and I think this is due to the increased price and the substandard cleaning. The other issue is the phone ringing, we had several calls around 8am and no reply when we answered, this is annoying when you want a break. This was an issue and reported when we used the cottages in previous years. But to get away and for a doggy place it's an ideal location and I will always recommend it to people.
Wilderness Cottages Replied...
Thank you for taking the time to provide a review on your stay at Shore Cottage. As Wilderness Cottages are the booking agents, we have contacted the owners to discuss your feedback. As per the information emailed with the directions, it is important to the property owner, and to Wilderness Cottages, that guests enjoy their holiday, and every effort has been made to ensure this. However, in the unlikely event of dissatisfaction with the property or any subsequent problem, guests should immediately contact the owner/caretaker or Wilderness Cottages, so that the opportunity to rectify the problem is given. We and the owners would have welcomed your comments on your arrival so that any issues could have been remedied. Shore Cottage still has a landline phone as there is no mobile signal at that location and many guests do not want total isolation. The phone can be unplugged if that is the guests choice.
Eilean Mor Cottage
Such a well equipped cottage in every aspect. We spent early mornings & evenings dining in the conservatory looking over Loch Dunvegan & out to the Hebrides. Internet reception was excellent. It was delightful to see so many locally bought crafts. A very minor recommendation. We would have liked another tea towel as we could only find one.
Stoer Lodge
I absolutely love this location. The sound of the waves on the beach and the variety of walks and stunning scenery. An amazing break in a very comfortable home from home.
Seahorses
Absolutely stunning cottage in a beautiful location. Seahorses is warm, comfortable and really well thought out with everything you could need. Plenty of good walks, hiking and wildlife to see. Thank you so much for the gorgeous hamper...everything was used and appreciated. Thank you also to Wilderness Cottages who are brilliant to deal with. We will definitely recommend you and book with you again.
The Challey at Heathcote
Once again, I stayed in the Challey - yes, I keep coming back!! The Challey is owned by the nicest people who go out of their way to make sure the high standards set here are maintained. If you want a peaceful break in the Spey valley then this is the place!! You won't be disappointed!!
Seascape Cottage
We spent a wonderful week in Seascape Cottage. It was very cosy, comfortable, clean and felt like home as soon as we walked in. This is the perfect place to get away from it all. The scenery is stunning, looking out to the sea from the front door is a privilege. It's also a good base to explore the coast or go further a field. Sarah was very friendly & welcoming. Can't wait to come back next year.
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
We had a wonderful holiday in a stunning location. Wilderness cottages were great, in particular Judith who dealt with our booking mostly. She was so helpful and so professional, she helped out with a few challenges I had and was absolutely incredible. Everyone I dealt with was equally lovely, but I just noted that Judith really did go above and beyond. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wishing to book a holiday in this area. This was our first holiday and a new family of 6 and having a company be so helpful and wonderful made this whole experience more memorable and special and I'm so grateful. We will definitely be back. Thank you Wilderness Cottages!
Sealight
We had a fabulous week at Sealight. The cottage really is very comfortable, well maintained, well equipt, home from home really with lovely views across to Loch Sunart. Each night we were visited by Pine Martins which was a real privilege. Sealight is in a great position for visiting the Ardnamurchan area. We will certainly be back!
Seal Skerry Lodge
March 2025 was our Seventh visit to this property since 2017. That tells it's own story! It's one of the best kept secrets in North West Skye. Seal Skerry Lodge is a fabulous property in Milovaig. The house is an architectural delight (Rural Design Architects), was built around 2015 and has a fantastic Eco heating system and has a magnificent open plan ground floor. The glazed picture windows look out over Loch Pooltiel and the sea cliffs (with views to the Western Isles) and run the full length of the property. It is very isolated and has a fully fenced large well maintained garden (which our dog loves). Whether cooking, dining or relaxing the views are literally staggering. Whilst we have done many of the Skye tourist attractions over a number of years but there are enough fabulous local walks in the Milovaig, Glendale and Dunvegan areas to make for a very enjoyable week. The log burner in the evenings makes for a 'hooga' experience and the dark skies environment mean stargazing is exceptional. The owner (Heather) is super responsive to any issues but to be honest we have had one minor issue in seven years and the cleaner (Emma) for the property is first class and we have never encountered the property in anything but 'sparkling' condition. The internet signal is strong and there is a Roku dongle meaning Netflix, Sky, Amazon & all terrestrial channels are all available. The wildlife in NW Skye is unparalleled. This week we saw white tailed sea eagles on three days (at close range), common seals and otters are regular visitors to Loch Pooltiel. As a family absolutely love this property and are already looking forward to return in March 2026. My only negative part of the review is that we do not own this property! Cannot recommend highly enough (& we are picky Fifers!). KR Colin
Leachachan Cottage
Cottage was absolutely perfect, credit to the owners who have made it so special. Locations is out of this world looking towards five sisters, was lucky enough to see some white hats on them too. Weather was great all week. Barnie the Badger turned up every evening without fail to be fed his favorite peanuts which was a great experience, no pine marten this time. Loved cottage and location so much rebooked for another stay latter part of year. Can't wait to return.
Seal Skerry Lodge
Stunning location on the edge of Poolteil loch where nature surrounds this beautiful property. Excellent facilities and plenty of room if you were to have four adults, (we were only 2). Great communication throughout with this company
Charleston
The cottage was a fantastic place to stay with a real remote location which is why we like staying in the Highlands each year. The cottage was extremely well equipped and very clean.
Easter Knocklea Cottage
Stunning property in an amazing location a perfect highland retreat!
Beach Lodge
Amazing location!! Spacious, well equipped house and very warm even when temperatures were pretty low in February. Wonderful walks on the beach with our dogs. Definitely need a 4x4 to access which fortunately we have. Will certainly be returning, maybe in summer to explore a different season.
Upper Folds
Wonderful stay, beautiful cottage, kept warm by the woodburner and underfloor heating even in the wildest weather, truly in the wilderness! You could probably manage the track in a 2wd car with good ground clearance if you're careful and take it slow: no problem at all in a 4x4. The ford looks like it was recently maintained and was only a few inches deep even after heavy rain and snow.
Seal Skerry Lodge
This is our second visit to Seal Skerry Lodge, it is a fantastic place to stay, the house is immaculately clean and well presented but it is also comfortable and feels like home. The views from every window are fantastic and change during the day, watching otters and eagles from the house was very special. Great base for exploring the Island. We were really well looked after by the owners and Wilderness cottages and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Cattle Shed
Excellent self catering facility .Well situated to visit areas all around the Cairngorms We really enjoyed our stay.
Loch Cottage
Amazing cottage, perfect location with the best views. Spotlessly clean. We loved the Pine marten and badgers coming in to feed on peanuts every night. Only way to improve the experience would have been a bird table and or feeders to look at from the lovely warm porch. Really really hope we can come again.
Shore Cottage
A wonderful winter bolthole - warm (new stove is excellent), clean, comfortable, well-equipped, and withstood the worst Storm Eowyn could throw at it. Our second visit and much enjoyed, except for mud/trail motorbikes tearing up and down on the beach on 3 out of 6 days, very noisy and aggressive. We would want to be sure the owners could stop this before we book again.

Thank you for leaving a review on your stay at Shore Cottage. As Wilderness Cottages are the booking agents,we contacted the owners to pass on your feedback. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the cottage was cosy and comfortable as you weathered Storm Eowyn. We, and the owners were very surprised to hear about the trail bikes on the beach during your stay. This is something that has never been reported before or witnessed by the owners, thank you for making us/them aware. We are very sorry this occured during your stay. As the public can access the beach, the owners are unable to prevent people from attending, however, if made aware, they would attempt to dissuade this type of activity.
Lilybank
Lovely property and great location. Wilderness Cottage's were very helpful with the booking.
Arrivain Cottage
Unfortunately, this property is no longer with Wilderness Cottages.
Coorie
Coorie is an exceptional holiday home - immaculately presented and very well appointed. It sits in a fabulous location off a single track road with the occasional passing car - the perfect location for some R&R - we absolutely loved it. Snowfall midweek curtailed some of our planned walks but gave us a fine excuse to spend more time at Coorie gazing out from the panoramic windows at the ever-changing views. Would highly recommend.
Stablemans Lodge
We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Stableman's Lodge. We had a delayed arrival due to illness but Simon was very understanding and helpful, to the extent of having the fire going in time for our arrival, which was a lovely touch. The 'welcome' box was also very sweet and thoughtful, with coffee, tea and lots of other goodies! The house itself is lovely and cosy - we very comfortable and found we had everything you could need. The location is also ideal - a few minutes walk from the town's Main Street and shops/restaurants, but only a few minutes in the other direction to the large forest, where there are numerous trails and tracks to enjoy a nice walk. I would definitely recommend Stableman's Lodge for a relaxing stay and we look forward to a return visit!
Ceol na Mara
A gem of a place to stay. In a stunning location (the reality is even more impressive than the pictures) this little sanctuary was a perfect holiday cottage. Well appointed and cosy with beautiful views, lots of wildlife and all the things you need to feel at home. We will be back!
Easter Knocklea Cottage
Excellent cottage, very well equipped and in a beautiful location. The cottage is ideal whether you want a quiet holiday or a more adventurous one. Highly recommended.
Loch Cottage
Loch Cottage is in a beautiful location. The new porch takes full advantage of the spectacular view and is the perfect space for a cup of tea, a good book or gazing at the loch. The cottage is very well appointed and was always cosy. The new bathroom was perfect with a lovely shower and toasty towel rail. We enjoyed a fabulous winter break, with lots of walks, games around the kitchen table and relaxing in front of the wood burner. Sitting outside under the new covered area was perfect for enjoying the dark skies and raising a toast to 2025.
Leachachan Cottage
We had the most perfect week in Leachachan cottage. The cottage was spotlessly clean, warm and everything you could need is available. It has been perfectly converted and it gives you access to the most amazing views. The sofas, beds and chairs are all really comfy and the decor is all 1st class. Our host for the week Tatyana was super helpful and shared info throughout our stay, we really appreciated her. We had perfect weather Scottish weather, rain, wind and heavy snow; with the aurora borealis thrown in. We also spotted herons, countless deer and stags, sea otters and seals. Couldn't have asked for a better week. We will definitely return. Thanks again.
Ceol na Mara
This is our 2nd visit to Ceol Na Mara , and the cottage has had a refurbed Bathroom and new Furniture since our first visit, several years ago. Once again we had a lovely stay - everything was left ready for us and the Cottage was spotless! Everything needed plus more was there and we had a lovely stay. A beautiful little cottage in a stunning location!
Pityoulish Cottage
Absolutely perfect. The accommodation has everything you need. The garden and views are amazing. The Loch is great for a short walk or a swim. Close to the ski resort and lots of other activities in the area. We will definitely be back.
Oak Cottage
We had the pleasure of spending xmas at oak cottage. A very well maintained cottage in picturesque natural surroundings with plenty of privacy. The owners take care of every detail and atmosphere. I would recommend wholeheartedly.
The Coltsfoots
Love the log cabin as always that's why we rebook time after time. Cleanliness and facilities are outstanding. Wonderful hosts who are welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
Upper Folds
Time stood still and we found ourselves in heaven for two perfect weeks in the very best holiday home.
Charleston
Lovely property, thank you to Julie and Judith at Wilderness, although our stay was delayed by a day due to weather conditions, both kept us updated and were extremely helpful.
Poulary Cottage
Unfortunately, this property is no longer with Wilderness Cottages.
The Orchids
Unfortunately, this property is no longer with Wilderness Cottages.
Charleston
The fact that this was our 8th stay says it all. I feel totally relaxed as we reach the lower gate and the house comes into view. So much to see within the Highlands. Days spent just chilling in the conservatory. Always spotting the wildlife. Kites soaring above and deer all around. We've already booked for next Spring. Would be good to have tea/coffee and milk to grab a cuppa on arrival. However it's definitely not essential and Tesco deliver to the door. Here's to our next visit
Shore Cottage
We stayed at the cottage for a week, was disappointed that we could not use the fire. The best thing was the location, the beach was great for our elderly dog. The cottage itself needs a good clean and some tlc. Whilst we had everything we needed the cottage is tired. On arrival there were a lot of flys and we found fly spray in the kitchen which we could not use because we had a dog. There were more house flys everyday. The garden was a gunnera cemetery where it had all been cut down and left not very nice. The sofas are finished and uncomfortable and need replacing. The shower was ok with great pressure. The blind in the bathroom was broken and unable to be used. The bed was comfortable.

Thank you for providing a review on your stay at Shore Cottage. As Wilderness Cottages are the booking agents, we have contacted the owners to discuss your feeback. They are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay. They understand that the fire being unusable, due to safety concerns, was very unfortunate, this has now been replaced with an inset wood burner. They are investigating your report of flys. Exterior and interior maintenance to the cottage has now been completed, which includes decoration and a replacement sofa and an ongoing maintenance schedule is in place.
Callakille
A wonderful relaxing holiday in a fully equipped and well laid out cottage. Unrivalled views from the cottage and noiseless!
Log House
This place is just the best!!! Been before and it's beautiful - a log house that was built by 2 Canadian guys in the 1970's over several years. It is very well equipped with everything you would need. A perfect base away from the main centre of Fort Augustus but still only an easy 15 minute walk to get there. There are many mountain/river walks in the walkable area!!
Callakille
We spent 2 weeks at the cottage in late October. The area and the cottage exceeded all of our expectations, and we hope to return someday.
Elderbank
Firstly the booking process through wilderness cottages is so easy and a very efficient helpful service from the person we dealt with! I would highly recommend Elderbank cottage. Perfect location on the coast road and so very peaceful! The cottage is warm and cosy and has everything you need to feel at home! The garden is amazing to explore and very unusual for the area, offering the cottage great protection from the weather! The surrounding area is truly unique with a plethora of places to visit!
Learag
Everything has already been written, but not by me... In this sense: The Learag is an exceptional accomodation whose equipment, cleanliness and cosiness leave nothing to be desired. The location is very quiet, and we enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace in the morning and ending the day there with a glass of wine in the evening. At the same time, the transport links are so good that you can reach a remarkably large part of the Highlands within an hour's drive. We really appreciated the many good tips from the extremely friendly owner about places of interest and walks, but in the one week of our stay we couldn't visit and see everything that was on our bucket list. We will thus definitely be back next year!
White-Tail Croft
We had a fantastic stay at White-Tail Croft. This well-designed Croft is situated in a breathtaking scenery with stunning views from every room. It's an adventure to stay in this remote area. A real adventure!
Learag
A lovely property in a great location, really well placed to explore this beautiful area. A very comfortable place to stay, with great views and a quiet location.
Sealight
This was our second visit to Sealight at it didn't disappoint. Beautiful house, beautiful location, and the perfect place to relax and recharge in the great outdoors.
The Granary
Lovely cottage, very warm and cosy. Ideal location for visiting local and not so local areas of interest. We did Skye, Oban, Ullapool, Aviemore to name a few. Wish we'd had better weather for Chanonry Point but we'll go back there on our next visit to look for whales and dolphins. The cottage was well equipped and the welcome pack was an added bonus. Fresh flowers were lovely. Lovely hosts. Used Wilderness Cottages a few times now and, as always, excellent service. Will definitely use them again.
Oak Cottage
A really super cottage, beautifully presented and with everything thought of - just lovely. The perfect location for trips out and the bird feeders are always active with everything you'd expect, plus the ducks reaching up were hugely entertaining, as was the occasional visit from a Jay. The feeder opposite the kitchen window is visited each morning by a very acrobatic squirrel! The cottage's green/eco ethic is a pleasant surprise and only to be encouraged. Not a criticism, but do be aware that you'll have a little bit of a walk from your car, worth bearing in mind if you're not especially mobile or have a lot of luggage to bring in when it's raining.
Red Kite Log Cabin
What a lovely place! Friendly welcome as we arrived and just a super spot. We know the area well as we've been many times before, but this was by far the nicest accommodation we've had in the area and we hope to return. Top tip - if you're coming from Inverness direction and the turn off/across the main road is a bit hairy due to traffic, drive a mile or so up the road and turn right at the roundabout for Tore, then right again at the road just before the petrol station. A nice, sedate drive just down the road a bit!
Fearnmore Church
Fearnmore Church is set in a stunning, secluded setting with views overlooking the sea. The Church is beautiful inside with everything you need to enjoy an idyllic and peaceful holiday. The promise of visiting Pine Martens is not exaggerated. We saw one on our first night and Badgers also visited every night. Many birds visit during day. It would be advisable to arrive with some provisions ( especially for the creatures) as the nearest shop is 35 minutes away. However the drive to that shop in Applecross is lovely and the shop, although tiny, stocks a surprising amount. There is also a 24 hour petrol station. The only downside to the holiday is that you have to leave! We can't wait to go back.
