Arrivain Cottage

Arrivain is a very clean, warm and cosy cottage which has been lovingly restored by the owners, from whom we received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival. The cottage is very well equipped and in a good location for travelling and planning days out / walking in the area. It has a secluded garden with much wildlife and a very nice stream to sit beside. We loved it and would not hesitate to book it again if we were planning to holiday in this area.

We had a wonderful two week stay in Pityoulish Cottage. The views are stunning. The Sitooterie was also very special. We sat one evening watching Deer chasing each other on the other side of the river. The cottage was nicely presented and comfortable. The nearby Loch Pityoulish is quiet and perfect for paddle boarding and swimming. A great base for exploring the area. We would love to return.

Dear Mr Steve Pembroke-Smith, thank you for your review and feedback. As per the email we did send you, the owner did only ask us to process the compensation on the 10th September, this being the day you left. The owner had also confirmed that the problem with the bed sheets was resolved on Sunday 4th September, so we assumed everything had been sorted to your satisfaction.

This is the second time we have stayed at Pier head, the previous time was in September 2019, and we liked it so much we wanted to stay there again, but we weren't able to visit during 2020 or 2021 because of covid. Its in a fabulous location, right on the sea loch, with a beautifult view of Shieldaig Island, and excellent walking, rock climbing and kayaking all easily accessible.. Some of our team went swimming from the old pier in front of the house and were able to dash straight back in for hot showers. As a group with one couple and four friends, its good to have two twin bedrooms (many rentals only have double beds). We hope to return sometime!

Lovely, cosy cottage tucked away right at the end of the little road. You can really get away from everybody here. Rayburn boiler took a bit of getting used to but turned out to be very good. Heating easy to adjust via thermostat, had a good deal of wet weather. There is a back gate which allows access to the loch but have to navigate high grass and then slippery, seaweed covered rocks. Great base for mountain walking and cycling, with very easy access to Skye. WiFi in the cottage was a godsend, mobile phone signal was variable. We enjoyed two wonderful weeks here and would highly recommend but you do need a car. Cottage caretaker was very helpful at the start when the boiler tripped. Staff at Wilderness cottages made booking and then altering our booking very easy. Thank you!

We spent a lovely week at the Stablemans lodge, the pictures online don't do it justice, it is beautiful inside and little touches such wonderful artwork from the owner, make it feel really special. The kitchen is well equipped and we found a very generous welcome hamper on our arrival. The BBQ hut was a fantastic treat and we enjoyed cooking food we purchased from the local grocers and butchers on the high street. If you get a chance to visit the owners art studio, it's worth while and only a 10 minute walk from the property, details are at the property. Sitting out on the balcony was always the perfect end to each day and because it's covered in, the weather didn't stop our enjoyment of sitting outside. The owners were very welcoming and provided everything we could have needed for a wonderfully relaxing break. Unlike a lot of places, there was an ample supply of logs for the fire.

A beautiful cottage in a great location with great facilities. Well equipped and has everything you need with great walking right from the doorstep. We went with our kids age 1 and 7. We'd love to go back. It's very remote (but thats what we wanted). At first the lack of phone signal/Wifi was a little annoying, as you need to book tables to eat out in Applecross, however I think being disconnected from it all made our holiday much much better than it would have otherwise been, so I hope it stays that way and I'd encourage everyone to try it.

A beautiful property in a stunning location, with a delightful host. We were really impressed. There's so much space and light inside, all the furniture including beds was very comfortable, well equipped kitchen, and a high standard of cleanliness. The surroundings are idyllic, with highland cattle and a pony in the field next door and beautiful views everywhere. It's a quiet location but a short walk away from a cafe serving delicious food, and not much further on foot to the village of Foyers, with a waterfall, shop, post office and cafe. A good base for exploring Loch Ness and the surrounding countryside. Thoroughly recommend

Matheson's Croft House

Matheson's croft is a very well equipped cottage which fitted all our needs and everything of the equipment worked perfect. At our arrival things were prepeared to make us a perfect stay, kitchen, gear, dishes and bathroom were very clean. We also want to support the "no pets statement". There is a good selection of DVD and books for rainy days. Furniture is comfortable, especially beds and sofa and decoration of the walls is nice to look at. The Rayburn has been easier to use than expected as this was new to us. This remembered us on times we were cooking on a wood fired oven at home. Otherwise outside the house some improvements can be done. First of all an access to the lochside should be made, a door through the fence and cut clear a walkway. Unfortunately a note about the fenced off lochside is missing in the house description. Also some gravel can be added in front of the back door, there is a puddle that slowly dries after a rainy day. Probably the cleaner of the house will estimate this too, of course we changed footwear on the doorstep, but some dirt always finds it's way to the inside floor. So the outside is why our rating is one step down from excellent (house excellent, outside good).

This is a beautiful cottage, lovingly restored by the owners. The rooms are spacious and so well furnished. The garden is fully enclosed and well kept. The forest is on the door step and it is like having your own private forest at certain times of the day. I don't think we have ever been anywhere so quiet. There is a really interesting history of the Guisachan Estate (Plodda Falls Lodge is part of this) and lots to see and do in the surrounding area. Jenny, the owner is on hand to answer any questions you have or to give you suggestions about different walks if you need. The nearest shops are a bit of a drive away in Cannich so I would arrive with food etc. Midge repellent is also advised depending on when you are visiting. We had a great holiday and I look forward to returning in the future.

Stairs are steep as advised to the bedrooms upstairs. This cottage is not perfect but the good bits make it a great place to visit. We did feel more cleaning was needed done in between guests but this is the only issue Sunroom is great also, larrge utility room Can walk in both directions from cottage and fort Augustus is a 4 mile easy walk along the path.. Coorie

Our first word as we went through the door was, "wow!" This "cabin" is both fantastic and slightly aggravating.... Fantastic because it's so very comfortable, beautifully equipped and very tastefully decorated but slightly aggravating because you just know that your wife will be logging away all the lovely features and insist they are added to your own (now slighly down-graded) home. The comfort here is amazing; the weather on Skye is unpredictable to say the least but inside Coorie its always warm and quiet, despite half of one side being glass. Talking of glass... the view is to die for. The rocky shore is about 300yds away and can be reached fairly easily through the bracken. The bathroom; luckily we've changed our bathroom in the last 8 months or so (after a holiday in Yorkshire!). Good job too because the bathroom is large and the bath big enough to replace the ferry from Kylerhea! The bed was large and comfortable (Audrey took a photo of the mattress label so that we can get one!) and was always a comfortable temperature and quiet, despite us having stormy weather and very mild nights. The surrounding area was perfect for us... plenty of wildlife, very quiet and beautiful views. In 30 years of travelling around various parts of the UK, we have NEVER had a property this good. It's absolutely amazing and shouldn't be judged by it's cabin-like appearance from the outside. You MUST take binoculars and you WILL fight over the view from the armchair in front of the window. We are now at home in Dorset and Audrey is preparing me a, "to do", list. Joking aside, this place is fabulous.
