Leachachan Cottage
This is an absolutely wonderful holiday cottage: the photos do not do it justice. The views across Loch Duich to the Five Sisters from dining and sitting areas are spectacular, even in bad weather. The under floor heating means that if you get wet and cold outdoors the house is always warm on your return. It is perfect for two couples as it has two double bedrooms each with a stylish en-suite bathroom. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with high quality crockery and appliances. We enjoyed having no TV, though appreciated the WiFi. There is a fish farm in the loch near Leachachan with some noisy activity on weekdays but it does not spoil the experience. Go if you can!
Ceol na Mara
We had a lovely time at Ceol na Mara. Wonderful to be so close to the sea. We saw porpoises three or four days in a row. The house was so comfortable, with everything thing we could possibly need and the owner was very helpful. It was a great base for various cycling trips including the obvious one over the Bealach. Many thanks.

Port Elgol Cottage
The cottage is beautiful, perfect setting, cosy, comfortable and well equipped, a real home from home feel. Would highly recommend a stay here!
Cnoc Ard
We enjoyed a lovely week at Cnoc Ard. Very comfortable house with everything we needed over our stay. Scourie and the surrounding area provided us with plenty to do and see despite the unseasonable weather. We managed to squeeze in a walk from Achfary to Kylestrome between worst of the weather fronts.
The Coltsfoots
This was our 3rd time at The Coltsfoots cabin and as always it was excellent. The owner came round and nice chat with him again very helpful man and friendly. I would definitely recommend anyone to go there, plus we will go back
Shellach Cottage
A lovely traditional cottage of great character in a quiet location on the outskirts of Lochcarron but only a few minutes from the amenities of the village. The cottage itself was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.
Upper Folds
Second time we have visited Upper folds superb cottage spotless , well equipped and good location , We will definitely be visiting again
Loch Cottage
There have been progressive improvements in the property in the last 2 years, which has made the stay even more enjoyable. The star is the new porch that is simply outstanding. There is a new outside covered area for inclement weather (which we have yet to experience at the cottage) on a new patio . The old bench is sadly gone., but perhaps a replacement is planned
Sixgeary
Great cottage, very clean & comfortable with superb views over Loch Snizort. It is in a wonderfully remote (but not isolated) location with great walks & wildlife from the door and easy access to the spectacular NW area of Skye We would definitely recommend this cottage.
Charleston
Charleston is the perfect home from home in the Highlands. This was our third visit and it doesn't disappoint. Whether you want to explore the wider area or stay closer to home, it's a good base. All the home comforts that you can think of too. The setting amongst the hills is perfect, beautiful views all around. Inverness is not far for shopping and exploring, as is Fort Augustus. Our two weeks were blessed with lovely sunny weather. The days are long, still reasonably light at 10pm. A photographer's paradise, so much to see. We saw a lot of local wildlife, from the red deer hinds to red kites, a male and female hen harrier. Then we saw three young cuckoos, all getting fed by meadow pipit parents. The grouse were very vocal but elusive and the curlews a delight, all seen from the bungalow. The blackface sheep and lambs in the pasture beside the garden were entertaining too, chasing each other about. Many thanks to the owners too, who helped out very promptly with a couple of minor issues. Lovely to meet you Iain and Elaine We're happy to thoroughly recommend Charleston to anyone considering choosing it as their holiday rental. Thanks also go to Wilderness Cottages for the help when booking.
Cedar Cottage
This was our 3rd visit and it never disappoints. It's idyllic and Tufty the Red Squirrel made a daily appearance. The cottage, is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Dog friendly enclosed garden. Mile and a half from nearest road but TESCO only 5 or 6 miles away.
Seascape Cottage
Firstly, the correspondence with Wilderness Cottages has been excellent as always. We couldn't book our usual cottage, so we went with Seascape. What an amazing choice it was! Sarah and Jag were extremely welcoming and the welcome basket of food was extremely thoughtful. The cottage itself was extremely cosy. Due to the underfloor heating, the cottage was toasty but was welcome on the couple of days it was blowy. Watching the weather from the living room (which has huge floor to ceiling windows) was mesmerising. Seascape is comfortably big enough for four adults. The bedrooms were more than big enough, with plenty of storage. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept well. It was so quiet at night, no excuse for a bad nights sleep. The bathroom was big and shower was more than adequate and easy to use. The living/dining/kitchen was lovely. A great place to unwind and chill out. The kitchen has the most utensils/crockery/cutlery we've ever had in a cottage, so we were able to cook whatever we wanted. The location is spectacular. The amount of wildlife was amazing. Seals, deer, hares, dozens of rabbits, oyster catchers and quite a few seals. The beach is less than 300 yards, and is so quiet with hardly any visitors. We'll be heading back! Thanks to Sarah for the extra for our daughter, it was much appreciated.
Ardbeg
We waited a few years to stay in this cottage due to the pandemic. It did not disappoint. The owners have really made every effort to make it extremely comfortable. We appreciated the two sitting rooms and the beautiful doors, decking and of course the view. Thank you for a truly memorable stay.
Pityoulish Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at Pityoulish cottage. The location of the cottage is amazing, with expansive views down to the Spey at the end of a large garden lawn. In the other direction you can also see Loch Pityoulish (good for bathing) framed by the Cairngorms. The location is quiet being at the end of a private drive off a small road. In/from the garden we saw lots of birds, including osprey fishing on the river and a barn owl. At the end of the garden is a lovely gazebo structure for outside dining, which has covers and heating, so good for evening dining. The cottage itself has been recently renovated. The main kitchen and the annex are both great. The dining area we found a little small, and awkward to fit 6 people around the table, but fine for 4. The showers were hot and high pressure. The upstairs bedrooms were very small, with limited headroom (as is the style of these cottages). Bedding and mattresses were adequate, but not great (better in the annex). There is a washing machine and freezer in an outhouse. For some reason there was a lack of outside seats/recliners on the patio, just one! We found one more folded up in the outhouse. We managed some cycling in the area with young kids. The road back to Colyumbridge is thankfully not that busy, and it doesn't take too long to get back to the road to the ski centre. At that point there are a wealth of off-road cycle trails. Garten forests was also a nice morning out (though we did not take the bikes there). Bread from Rothimurcus farm shop was good, and pizza from the takeaway in Boat of Garten recommended. Speyside railway also a hit with kids and grandparents.
Charleston
As wonderful as the last time we visited. Thanks for hosting us. A great location to relax and explore.
Plodda Falls Lodge

Beach Lodge
This is our 4th time at Beach Lodge and it never loses its ' specialness' to all our family. It is in an idyllic position and safe for dogs and children alike. 2 minutes to the beach and with every day spent on the beach we saw one other person. The house itself is very comfortable and the sunroom dining table is huge seating our 10. Our grandchildren are growing up with memories of perfect holidays at Beach Lodge and we have booked for next year already.
Rowan Ridge

White-Tail Croft
White-Tail Croft had absolutely everything we needed for a perfect holiday and more. The property is beautifully furnished and decorated, the sauna is a welcome addition after a day of walking too. The StarLink internet surprised us - we were not expecting much being in a remote area, but we were able to stream anything while relaxing after a long day out. The area and views from the property are beautiful and so peaceful. We saw eagles, rabbits, swallows, hooded crows and plenty of lambs running up and down which entertained us each day. We loved our two weeks there, but there was so much more on Skye to discover - we need to come again to continue exploring! Thank you for sharing this wonderful property with us.
The Old Post Office
The Old Post Office has been beautifully renovated to give a new lease of life to an old family home. Stunning views, thoughtfully appointed and well designed as a luxurious holiday home. The owners have created a comprehensive visitors book for practical answers to queries and are also easily contacted should it be needed. It was a pleasure to stay, hard to leave and somewhere we would go back to.
Shore Cottage
Our 4th visit, perfect for relaxing and the beach is yours for the week! Having a reactive German Shepherd, this is one week we can feel totally at ease. Hoping to be able to get booked for next year too! Cottage is a dream.
Wildwood
Excellent Location for all attractions & places to visit if you want off grid this is for you. Very Spacious and clean & well presented too. The WiFi is very intermitted and if you want to watch a movie then you may have issues but then again this is not the property is all about. I shall do a return visit so highly recommended
Cedar Cottage
Once again a wonderful stay at Cedar cottage, our 4th time there, thats how great a location and cottage it is! We are quite elderly and so it would have helped in the bathroom if there'd been a grab rail re having a bath or shower, otherwise everything was just perfect. Lovely too having the complimenary biscuits, chocolates and wine! Highly recommend.
Old Lock Keepers Cottage
This was our second visit to this lovely well situated, well equipped cottage. Lock keepers were as welcoming as ever, always willing to share their knowledge of the canal and all users, walkers and cycysts were sociable and friendly. Great base to explore from or simply relax. We did both. Rohan our lab swam every day. Looking forward to returning soon. Wilderness Cottage team very helpful as are owners Michael and brother John.
Lilybank
We had a relaxing week at the cottage. It was comfortable and cosy . We enjoyed watching the boats negotiate the locks in Fort Augustus. Great base for Glen Affric and canoeing on the Caledonian canal. Hiring e bikes at Gelncoe was a highlight. Such a beautiful view from the cottage. The house was well presented . only one suggestion might be an update on the crockery would be nice as its quite scatched, but everything else was wonderful and very clean. Thank you
Seal Skerry Lodge
This is a really special place that has everything that you need for a great stay, clean, comfortable, incredibly well equipped and the most sensational view. We couldn't wish for any more
North Lodge
A cosy warm lodge, well equipped kitchen, if somewhat darker than we would have liked. Ideally situated on the Lochnaw estate for exploring the Rhins of Galloway. Instructions and guide to lodge need updating, codes, and general stuff about the house. There is a microwave, so let people know. A few smaller pans would be a welcome addition to kitchen! Really built for max 3, second bedroom small for 2 people. A nice stay - especially the red squirrels, deer, woodpeckers, nuthatch and all the other birds, but especially the eve wing exodus of bats, great walks around the estate (again guide needs updating - there is a walled garden, but we were unable to get in)
Seascape Cottage
Another lovely break at seascape cottage Looking forward to coming back next year for our 6th stay
Charleston
We stay at Charleston every year, stunning location, relaxed, comfy accommodation. What's made a real difference is the rechargeable small mower unit that goes around cutting the grass, this has resolved the mushrooms situation that our dogs wanted to eat. Will be back next year as usual. Only negative, hardly any kitchen or bathroom cleaning spray, bought some as run out.
Upper Folds
4th different cottage with Wilderness and the pleasure remained the same. Superb cottage and great location if your seeking some peace. Thank you to the owner for such a great stay and facilities provided
Seal Skerry Lodge
We had a wonderful two week stay at Seal Skerry Lodge. The location is amazing with great views from every window. Our dog loved the secure garden and soon learned to live alongside the sheep. We found some super walks nearby and didn't venture that far afield. For two adults and a dog, this is a great place to stay.
Matheson's Croft House
The cottage is lovely, isolated and with beautiful views on the Loch from the garden, from the first floor and along the trail leading to the beach (starting on the back of the cottage, next to the fuel tank). Warm, well equipped, very clean. We had great fun cooking with the AGA kitchen. The garden was in full bloom with bluebells, azaleas and rhododendrons. We spotted roe deer in the garden and along the road leading to the cottage (be aware when driving along ). Highly recommended!
Learag
A wonderfully located cottage. Very clean and quiet. We had a great two weeks.
North Lodge
Lovely clean lodge excellent stay
Leachachan Cottage
Lovely cottage overlooking the Loch. Beautifully clean and presented. Lots of nice touches. Welcome chocolates, milk, tea and filter coffee. Much appreciated. Nice and warm. Great shower, comfy bed. Pine marten visits at night time if lucky. Top quality.
Fearnmore Church
The cottage was beautiful, the owners have looked after it well, and carefully thought about all the finishing touches to make it very homely. The views out from the cottage are stunning. The cottage was well stocked for all essentials for washing up, clothes washing, dishwashing, so I was very grateful for that. It exceeded expectations and the booking process was excellent. Looking forward to my next wilderness cottage booking !
Poulary Cottage

Shellach Cottage
We really enjoyed staying at Shellach Cottage situated in a very beautiful part of Scotland. The cottage is well equipped and Lochcarron has good amenities.
Seahorses
Exceptional/amazing views from Seahorses. The house is very well equipped for everything you can think of & much more than you expect from a holiday rental. Very clean & if it's remoteness you are looking for you will be delighted with Seahorses. Highly recommended.
Tor Cottage
Tor Cottage is a wonderful place to stay while exploring Harris. It has everything you need, and the hosts are friendly and welcoming. We especially enjoyed the view and the female deer that walked outside the cottage almost every night.
Sealight
A house and location to dream of certainly five star from the interior and exterior will visit it again.
Cedar Cottage
We found this a delightful cottage located in a very peaceful forestry setting. The house was immaculate and there were some delightful wee touches ( hedgehog family ornaments in the porch, wee pigs on the mantle above the fire) which made it very homely and greatly appreciated the owner's thoughtfulness in leaving a bottle of very nice wine, chocolates, biscuits and milk. Also to leave peanuts and seeds to fill the numerous bird feeders was great as we were able to sit out on the patio right beside the feeders and watch the numerous birds, two little field mice and 2 squirrels take their snacks. Being able to have a choice of walks directly from the cottage was a delight for Willow our dog. We were visited by friends who were pleasantly amazed by the cottage and location querying how we had found it - thank you too Wilderness Cottages
Upper Folds
We had a beautiful stay at Upper Folds, Very well kept and modernised cottage with everything you need. The conservatory is fantastic for sitting and eating meals in surrounded by the view - even in bad weather! The road in does need a bit of ground clearance and in wet or icy weather 4x4 would be a must -but the reward in remoteness is worth it. had a play with my drone whilst there on one of the few not so windy days https://youtu.be/TUpVc6RTQFk?si=pCekONgg8iaoecm-

Seal Skerry Lodge
Our first trip to Skye, and what a fantastic place to spend it. We did lots of sight seeing, but we would have been more than happy just sitting in the main room looking out of the window at that stunning view. Really didn't want to leave. A stunning home in a beautiful location. We hope to return again
Eilean Mor Cottage
We had a really excellent stay in Eilean Mor. It's quiet, clean, warm and comfortable with great views over the sea-inlet from the conservatory. We spent most evenings in there, making the most of the views. Appreciated the washing line and pegs to hang the swimming stuff there to dry. Very well equipped generally, though a wooden spoon would be useful and sponge scourers (we bought our own). Also a non-slip mat in the shower as I found it a bit slippery when wet and soapy. Apart from these minor and easily sorted things, it's a really great place to stay and we would love to come back.
Strone
I stayed in Strone at a lovely property managed by Wilderness Cottages, with three friends from London. We were only there for three nights but it was the most fantastic stay, with so many activities in easy driving distance - and the cottage was a perfect base, equipped with all the utensils and furnishings we could possibly want. We were even gifted a cake and a bottle of wine! The price was really competitive and the service was just above and beyond. Will definitely think of Wilderness Cottages if I visit this part of Scotland again.
